Famous author Anne Rice defends ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’

Author Anne Rice, famous for her novel Interview With A Vampire is defending Fifty Shades Of Grey and advises everyone to stop picking on the novel and just let people enjoy it.
She issued a post on Facebook about the controversy surrounding the movie/novel. Basically she's defending the women's right to explore the world of erotica without judgement (her words not mine).

Some of her quotes:

“I believe completely in the right of women to their own sexual fantasies. I believe in their right to write and read sexual fantasies, and I will always defend them (and men) against efforts to politicize or sanitize or patrol their sexual fantasies. There is inside of each of us a secret place where our desires rule without interference. That secret place is our imagination.”

Another one:
We're talking about a novel here and a movie. We're not talking about people in real life. I love Agatha Christie. Do you think I support murder?

And...

Lecturing women on their fantasies, telling them NOT to like "Fifty Shades" because it includes abuse is just as bad, in my opinion, as telling women that "nice girls" don't imagine being kissed, loved, touched, ravaged, swept off their feet. "Nice girls" can imagine anything they want. And in literature, people can write whatever they want. I'm shocked by all the preaching about "Fifty Shades." I stand up for women, for their freedom, for their rights, for their imaginations, their hearts.

And seems like Dakota Johnson (who's the lead of 50 Shades Of Grey) agrees with the author:

“I know that a lot of people, before seeing the movie, were thinking that maybe it’s promoting abuse and violence, but I think it’s actually doing the opposite. I really don’t think that [Anastasia’s] a weak, submissive victim. I think that she’s a strong woman who is fearlessly exploring herself emotionally and sexually.”

Popstar's Best and Worst: Performances

$
0
0

In this ONTD orginal series, I'll be tackling the best and worst of our ~favorite of today's pop performers. To get the series going the 1st edtion will discuss their performances. From the good to the downright lackluster. Let's get started!!
J-Lo

Worst:

In this GMA performance from 2010, Jenny phones it in big time. From the karaoke vocals to the lack of energy- shouting don't count-, she knows damn well... The only thing she's getting a pass on in her dancing due to her pregnancy. "You didn't know I could do that did cha?!" She declares at the end of an underwhelming set. Certainly the fuck not, Miss Lopez. Certainly.

Best:

In her AMA tribute to legend Celia Cruz, she's on her p's and q's. The costuming and choreography elevate a fine job she's doing already. Even her backtrack vocals are stronger than usual. Starting at 3:07 she breaks out into a great dance number. Well done, Jen.

Katy Perry

Worst:

Kathy uses every stereotype imaginable for Geishas in just under 5 minutes. To top it all off, you also have to suffer through what she considers singing. There's a major difference between singing and belting just to cover your ass. She needs to learn it.

Best:

This  cover of Fountain of Wayne's Hackensack for MTV Unplugged is very well done. It shows her in an element that is best suited for her. The song's within her range and it's not a bad cover whatsoever. Hopefully Ms. Keene explores this sound again.

Taylor Swift

Worst:

I don't even know where to start with this 2013 Grammy performance. She's forever trying to aim for notes she can't hit. I'm glad to see her be proud in her work, but when you don't know your limits.... The only thing this number has going for it is the visuals and the audience's vocal backing.

Best:

This acoustic performance from the Red announcment party shows her in her singer-songwriting element. It's a lovely performance of one of the album's strongest tracks and sounds close enough to the record. It's also listenable unlikesomeother performances we've had to endure.

Rihanna

Worst:

For someone with such a strong personality, she sure doesn'tbringit to the stage. In this 2010 AMA performance we see her go as far as strutting and jumping around with a weak half Wind thrown in midway. Even when the music hits she gives us nothing but breathy notes.

Best:

2 years later at the UK X Factor finale she finally gives us signs of life. You can actually hear the emotion in her voice and tell she's feeling what she's singing. Sure, in general it's not the greatest. For her though this is definitely a step in the right direction.

Miley Cyrus

Worst:

The shaking in Milly Mae's voice, the low Elvis vibrato.. The screaming and outfit… just… nothing more really needs to be said.

Best:

Surprise! It's a performance from her Backyardigan Sessions but it's not Lilac Wine! Her voice is boisterous but in a tolerable way. It works to her advantage here. This really does make for a nice cover of Jolene.

Madonna:

Worst:

I mean, it starts off fine and then she descends into some bullshit around 4:05. The scream to her father Gabriel at 4:38 was best left for a collect phone call and record. Not a live performance, ma.

Best:

Let's take it back to the beginning with this one. This underrated performance is from 1985's Virgin Tour. There's not much going on gimmick wise yet she's still able to demand your attention. The sheer energy and drive of her abilities are perfect her (80s choreography included). Why this over her others? Because A) I'm not surfing through all her shit and B) There's a genuineness here that I feel she hasn't shown in a long time.

Lady Gaga

Worst:

trigger warning: the vomit performer's in this one. I don't think I need to say anymore about the bullshit she tried to here at the SXSW festival last year.

Best:

You might be wondering, why not the 2008 VMAs?? Well, the Grammy performance from this month actually shows Gaga relying on her singing and nothing else. Her vocal talent gets its chance to stand on its own and it works. It's  a nice reminder of what a lovely voice she actually has and just how captivating she can be without the theartrics.

Ariana Grande

Worst:

She's a wonderful singer and one of the few popstars of this generation who can carry a legit tune. The problem, as seen in this VMA performance from last year, is that she has no charisma. She has a nice set up and decent dancers going for her yet this set still manages to be dull.

Best:

Last year, at the AMAs she finally showed a little bit of confidence. You can even hear it in her voice and tell she's having fun. She and Jessie also work well together.

Mariah Carey

Worst:

Mim's paid her dues and her weakest is like a "best" for the other women on this list. However, when you have something to promote, you need to do it. In this GMA performance she leaves Miguel to do all the work while she struggles to hit her whistle notes. I will say their tiny bit of interaction towards the end was cute.

Best:

Everything about this 1990 performance of If It's Over on SNL is perfection. Need I say more? I don't think so.

Christina Aguilera

Worst:

This AMA 2012 performance came at a time when X-Tina didn't care and it shows. Her grunts through the melody are very distracting here. This is one of the times where less would've been more. You can even hear the crack in her notes during some parts.

Best:

During the 2007 tribute to James Brown at the Grammys, Chrissy went all out. Girl SANG it and it's the best I've ever seen her do in her career. And we all know she's capable. She makes the song her own while still being mindful of Brown's version.

Honorary Worst Moments:

This morning performance is so right for all the wrong reasons. Just click and enjoy.

I... y'all can figure out why.

That's it for this round! Join me next time where I tackle the best and worst of their albums.

note: not everyone is going to be included in everything and yes, Adele and Bey will show up at some point as well as others not mentioned here!

New writers have been hired in an attempt to save the show?

New writers added plus bad ratings for probably the past year don't go well together, apparently.

Currently the show is on contract until September 2016. There's speculation that NBC are waiting until the shows 50th anniversary in November of this year to announce the shows renewal (or cancelation, I'm guessing).

For a better rundown on the ordeal, here's the original article.

Selena Quintanilla fans petition MAC Cosmetics to honor her with a limited edition line

A few weeks ago a Selena fan instagrammed a photoshopped pic of her on a tube of MAC lipstick. It received over 700 likes and as a result someone created a petition
asking for a Selena limited edition line. She's been gone almost 20 years but she still has a very dedicated fanbase who would definitely buy anything they come out with (and if they make this they need to call it ¡Viva Selena! imo)

ONTD would you buy the lipstick above if it was real? Edit: feel free to make this a beauty post!
