Greta Gerwig Coached Tim-O-T Chalamet on His Woody Allen Response
Greta Gerwig Coached Timothee Chalamet on How to Handle Woody Allen https://t.co/3tIH52ehNl#Movies#Film#Cinema
— Bill Kelso (@BillKelso66) January 29, 2018
- It has come out this morning that Timothee Chalamet sought out advice from his Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig on how to handle the Woody Allen questions.
- Spotted by a Hollywood Reporter insider, Timothee and Greta were in a heated conversation near the bathrooms at the LA Film Critics Association Awards that lasted over 10 minutes.
- Two days later, citing contractual obligations that have since proven to be false, Timothee said he would be donating his salary from the Woody Allen to the Times Up movement.
- Interesting mentor on the subject considering Greta's own ignorance on the subject until, finally, making a halfway decent statement the week after the Globes.

ONTD Original: 20 of Woody Allen's Worst Quotes
You don't believe Dylan Farrow's allegations? How about taking Woody Allen at his word:
"I’m open-minded about sex. I’m not above reproach; if anything, I’m below reproach. I mean, if I was caught in a love nest with fifteen 12-year-old girls tomorrow, people would think, yeah, I always knew that about him. Nothing I could come up with would surprise anyone. I admit to it all.”
About Janet Margolin: "Occasionally I was forced to make love to her to get a decent performance. I did what I had to but in a businesslike way."
About Nati Abascal: "Could she act? Yes, I learned and especially in her defense. She blocked my [hand] as I reached for her thigh and brought her knee up sharply into my groin as we discussed show business...I pulled a contract out of my pocket and we both signed, but not until I told her about the sexual obligation that was a part of the job of any actress who worked with me. I came to appreciate her body for what it was as time went by, namely, a girl’s body . . . Soon she got used to my ways. Aware of my position as father figure on the set (a director is just that) I allowed her to come to me with her problems. When she never showed up, I came to her with mine."
It's unclear whether Allen's comments are a "parody" or "wishful thinking", as some have claimed, or whether Woody Allen actually admits to sexual assault here.
Mariel filmed "Manhattan" when she was a "16-year-old "virgin [who]'d never even really made out with anybody."
She worried about her kissing scene with Allen for weeks, repeatedly saying, 'How long was it going to be?'I was scared. I even asked my mother, 'How do I make out?'"When they finally shot it, Hemingway said: "He attacked me like I was a linebacker."
She was still so nervous that she ran over to the film's cinematographer, Gordon Willis, and said, "I don’t have to do that again, do I?" (At the time, she added, "everybody just laughed.")
Hemingway goes a bit further in her memoir, detailing how after once she turned 18, Allen flew out to her parents's home in Idaho and repeatedly asked her to go to Paris with him. Hemingway told her parents "that I didn’t know what the [sleeping] arrangement was going to be, that I wasn’t sure if I was even going to have my own room. Woody hadn’t said that. He hadn’t even hinted it. But I wanted them to put their foot down. They didn’t." In fact, though Allen was in his mid-forties at the time, "They kept lightly encouraging me." Allen left Idaho via private jet the next morning after Hemingway informed him if she wasn't getting her own room, she couldn't go with him.
Journalist Richard Morgan went through 56 boxes of Allen's drafts and scribblings and concludes Allen has an obsession with with young women and girls (shocker!):
"There’s the “wealthy, educated, respected” male character in one short story (“By Destiny Denied: Incident at Entwhistle’s”) who lives with a 21-year-old “Indian” woman. First, Allen’s revisions reduce her to 18, then double down, literally, and turn her into two 18-year-olds. There’s the 16-year-old in an unmade television pitch described as “a flashy sexy blonde in a flaming red low cut evening gown with a long slit up the side.” There’s the 17-year-old girl in another short story, “Consider Kaplan,” whose 53-year-old neighbor falls in love with her as the two share a silent, one-floor-long elevator ride in their Park Avenue co-op. There’s the female college student in “Rainy Day” who “should not be 20 or 21, sounds more like 18 — or even 17 — but 18 seems better.” That script includes a male college student but gives no description of his age. Another of Allen’s male characters, in a draft o
f a 1977 New Yorker story called “The Kugelmass Episode,” is a 45-year-old fascinated by “coeds” at City College of New York. In the margin next to this character’s dialogue, Allen wrote, then crossed out, “c’est moi” — it’s me."
"Of all the famous men who ever lived, the one I would most like to have been was Socrates. Not just because he was a great thinker, because I have been known to have some reasonably profound insights myself, although mine invariably revolve around two eighteen year old cocktail waitresses and some rope handcuffs."

— Emily Nussbaum (@emilynussbaum) 4. Februar 2014
"When I was younger and my kids were growing up, I would go through the channels and I would see her for a second." [On Miley Cyrus] "I stopped and I noticed, 'Who is this kid? She's got a great delivery!' - she was knocking off those one-liners like she was a very gifted comic performer – and then I forgot about her and moved on."
Kathy Griffin said Woody Allen had told her, "I've never missed Hannah Montana." He claimed to have seen every episode of the show.
Allen went on to work together with Miley Cyrus in 'Crisis In Six Scenes', where she was styled as the spitting image of her Hannah Montana character.
In "Rainy Day", the female college student “should not be 20 or 21, sounds more like 18 — or even 17 — but 18 seems better.”
The script includes a male college student but gives no description of his age. Oh, and the movie also features a fictional film director who's called Roland Polland. Oh, real subtle.
Should art be separated from the artist? With Woody Allen, the question is moot: his body of work plainly expresses his views and reveals what kind of person he's attracted to. In his personal life, Allen is similarly carefree - even gleeful - in expressing his opinion on girls, particularly his wife.
"...my child bride.”
“If somebody told me when I was younger, ‘You’re going to wind up married to a girl 35 years younger than you and a Korean, not in show business, not having any real interest in show business,’ I would have said, ‘You’re completely crazy'. Because all the women that I went out with were basically my age. Two years younger. Ten years was the maximum. Now, here, it just works like magic. The very inequality of me being older and much more accomplished, much more experienced, takes away any real meaningful conflict. So when there’s disagreement, it’s never an adversarial thing. I don’t ever feel that I’m with a hostile or threatening person."
"It’s got a more paternal feeling to it. I love to do things to make her happy. She loves to do things to make me happy. It just works out great. It was just completely fortuitous. One of the truly lucky things that happened to me in my life.”
"I was paternal. She responded to someone paternal. I liked her youth and energy. She deferred to me, and I was happy to give her an enormous amount of decision-making just as a gift and let her take charge of so many things. She flourished."
"I've been able to really make her life better. I provided her with enormous opportunities, and she has sparked to them. She's educated herself and has tons of friends and children and got a college degree and went to graduate school, and she has traveled all over with me now. She's very sophisticated and has been to all the great capitals of Europe. She has just become a different person. So the contributions I've made to her life have given me more pleasure than all my films."
Asked how Soon-Yi had changed him, Allen replied: "Changed me? I don’t know if you could say she changed me... I might be the same person I was when I was 20."
"Men learn to love the woman they are attracted to. Women learn to become attracted to the man they fall in love with.”
"Congratulations are in order for Woody Allen - he and Soon Yi have a brand new baby daughter. It's all part of Woody's plan to grow his own wives."
"It’s no accomplishment to have or raise kids. Any fool can do it.”
"I have to watch my friend Bill Cosby get railroaded."
"The whole Harvey Weinstein thing is very sad for everybody involved. Tragic for the poor women that were involved, sad for Harvey that his life is so messed up. There's no winners in that, it's just very, very sad and tragic for those poor women that had to go through that."
"I've inherited the worst of each parent. I have my father's hypochondria and lack of concentration. I have his amorality. I have everything bad that he had. Then I have my mother's surly, pill-like, complaining, whining attitude."

Bon Iver Is Equally As Mad About Bruno Sweeping the Grammys As Us

- It's the morning after the Grammy's and like much of the internet, Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon is pissed about Bruno Mars sweeping the categories and Grammy producer Ken Ehlrich's comments about Lorde and women in the industry.
- Vernon called out how Bruno winning everything was bullshit and that SZA and Kendrick were robbed.
- Vernon also called out Grammy producer Ken Ehlrich in defense of Lorde, saying Ehlrich refused to let Bon Iver perform "Holocene", which was nominated for Record and Song of the Year, because their music was long and boring and they'd lose 4-6M viewers during the performance alone.

Looks like Grammies are still something serious musicians should not take seriously !
Absolutely NO offense to Mr Mars, but you absolutely have to be shitting me. 1/2
To be factual, Mr Mars made a name in the INDUSTRY by making hits OUT of hits of yesteryear (see: https://t.co/pnZWXdQD3L)

Not being clever, but man, hard to listen to a music JUST because it came out in this particular year. I do, and I think its important, but hard to make a list of music that changed me this year, without including a bunch of music from people who are dead or gone https://t.co/RT7CGeoZTq
— blobtower (@blobtower) January 29, 2018
— I have to say Ken Ehlrich is a dick producer. I’m with Lorde on this, hard. Ken told us Holocene (roty, soty nominee in 2011 (?)) was “too long and slow and that we’d lose 4-6 million viewers cause of that” - and that he’s broken a lot of careers on the show, so I should listen

- She also talked about having a more equal workspace for men and women. “Equality is good for men too. Men need to get their heads out of their asses,” she said. “It’s smelly up there.” It’s also incumbent that people get educated on reasons the #metoo and #timesup movements are happening, she stressed. “Time’s up. We’ve had enough.”

- "In fact, you see that Ellio is more agressive and self-assured to say 'This is what I want.' There's no power dynamic that is unbalanced. It's just two human beings that genuinely fall for each other. Two legal aged human beings."

Riverdale's Asha Bromfield Interview with Teen Vogue
"Riverdale" Actress Asha Bromfield on Josie and the Pussycats and Wearing Her Natural Hair on TV https://t.co/IloCGpHIIw via @TeenVogue
— WomenFilmmakersofColor (@WomenFilmOfColr) January 29, 2018
The good, gorgeous sis ASHANTI "ASHA" BROMFIELD (bookmark that name plz), Riverdale's Melody Valentine, drummer of the Pussycats, utterer of the iconic "cheese fries" line, wholly underrepresented on the show, deserves more screen time than Jughead...gave an amazing interview for Teen Vogue where she discussed diversity, the Pussycats' impact, and being able to wear her natural hair on screen.
-Is very close with her fellow Pussycats Ashleigh Murray (Josie McCoy) and Hayley Law (Valerie Brown)
-Would like to see Melody explored more three-dimensionally and given more backstory (drag those writers, sis)
-Originally auditioned for Josie, didn't think she'd get it because she's black. After Ashleigh got it, she didn't think they'd let the other Pussycats be black girls, and was very pleasantly surprised when she got a callback for Melody
-Enjoys acting on Riverdale as she's able to break stereotypes and not just be the one token black girl
-All three of the Pussycats have very different backgrounds (Hayley is biracial, Ashleigh is African-American, and Asha is Afro-Caribbean), which she says shows that not all black girls are the same
-The Pussycats represent black sisterhood in a predominantly white school
-Ashleigh and Hayley inspired Asha to start wearing her natural hair on the show, is grateful that the CW allows them all to do so
"I want girls to know that that’s not true anymore. You have the power to choose between whether or not you want to rock it natural. If you want to wear a weave and extensions, that’s cool, too. I don’t think anyone should be shamed for their choice, but it’s important to know that you do have a choice. Most importantly, love what makes you who you are no matter what."
-In regards to diversity in film and television:
"It’s important for people to know that we don’t have to give so much power to these people who are in power. We can create our own stories. You don’t have to rely on other people. It’s time that we pick up the pen and we start telling our own stories. Writing is a huge part of who I am and what I do. Right now I’m working on two feature films: Block-o and Imperial. It empowers me so much to see [that] I can actually be the change that I want to see in the world by writing my own characters and including people the way that I know them to be."
