Five of the Worst Movie Sex Scenes of All Time

$

0
It's Sunday and the best day to discuss sex in pop culture and film on Ontd because everyone's attention is mostly undivided. So here are five out of ten of the worst sex scenes of all time in film:

  • [10] The Room (2003), which really deserves to be number one and shamed into eternity for Tommy Wiseau's alledgedly abusive behavior towards actress Juliette Danielle while filming the unnecessary scene.
"The Room and sex have a very interesting relationship, but nothing is as [gross] as the oh-too-long bellybutton sex scene."

  • [8] The Return Of Swamp Thing (1989), "After telling his love interest they can never be together the way she wants, he offers her a rolled up cylinder of swamp leaves that kind of looks like it could be swamp creature junk. After she accepts it, she’s transported to an elaborate fantasy sequence where the love of her life isn’t a swamp monster but a hot dude ready to go." Um, alright.

  • [6] Splice (2009), Adrien Brody who went from winning an Oscar and purchasing actual castles, to acting in 99 cent bin Z-list movies even Redbox wouldn't bother with, stars in this bizarre sci-fi film that could have been ghost written by Woody Allen. "Brody’s character literally gives her [Dren] life and raises her from babyhood. That’s why it’s so messed up when, just a few months later, he decides that banging his creepy science daughter is a good idea."

  • [3] Twilight: Breaking Dawn (2011), "Edward (Robert Pattinson) makes Bella (Kristen Stewart) wait until their wedding night until they get freaky. When they finally decide to do the deed, Edward ends up breaking the bed in what’s supposed to be a fit of passion but watches more like a silly moment from fan fic."

  • [2] Observe and Report (2009), unfunny rape scene, end of story.

  • What's your most hated cinematic sex scene?

Academy Members regret banning Weinstein so hastily

    - The Academy has found itself in quite the dilemma. They immediately banned Weinstein 9 days after the explosive report by the NYT. What are they going to with all the other scumbags who have been accused? Spacey, Hoffman, Toback, Affleck, Ratner have all been accused since. Members of the Board of Governors called an emergency meeting after a petition reached 100,000 signatures that called for Weinstein to be banned.

    - Casey Affleck, Roman Polanski, and Bill Cosby are still members despite the shit they’ve done.

    - One male member of the board of governors said they didn’t have a choice. Some members were vehement but they didn’t weigh out the repercussions when banning Weinstein according to this member. Kathleen Kennedy and other female members panicked and felt compelled to act. They thought Weinstein would hurt the credibility of the Academy. There’s been problems and fights among members. They didn’t realize how slippery it would be since there have been other members of the Academy who have been accused that have not been banned.

Yara Shahidi is kicking off her 2018 with the new TV series Grown-ish – and this Black-ish spinoff has Yara's character living her best college life. Yara herself will soon start attending Harvard University.

''I found out my first week of freshman year that my roommate was a sleepwalker. In the middle of the night she suddenly jumped on my bed and wiped her arms across my mattress cover. I screamed so loud it startled her, but not enough to wake her up. I asked her what was going on and she replied, "I'm sorry, I spilled my milk all over you and I needed to wipe it." I did not sleep at all that night.''

''As a RA, we had to stay in the dorms for a few days after residents had left for the holidays and clean up. Cleaning the community fridge, we found that one freshman biology students had decided to store their dead, dissected lab rat alongside everyone's food.''

''A squirrel broke into my dorm because the screen in my window was broken. I woke up one morning and found him crawling around the floor. Even after we caught him and kicked him out, he always came back to my closed window looking for food.''

The Empty Gesture of the Red Carpet Protest

-lizzy caplan showed up to a premiere with "love trumps hate" scrolled on her hand and it enraged the author at the acceptance of a gesture like that seen as bold when it's ineffective and self-serving

-caplan's form of protest has become fairly common since trump was elected and there's so much fear and uncertainty in the air, but passively waiting for things to change is not a strategy but a luxury and a privilege

-an author for the huffington post wrote an opinion piece where he said "It’s highly unlikely I’m going to be told I’m not American, or picked up by ICE and held in detention until I’m deported, or beaten or executed by police who decide my mere existence presents a threat to their safety, or denied the right to make my own decisions about my own medical care. For the most part, I’ll go about my daily life the way I always have — and if I want to, I can put a safety pin on my shirt and congratulate myself for being so woke, for being one of the good ones.”"

-the author felt anger again when she heard about the all-black protest at the golden globes. they aren't risking anything while still participating in a system that has condoned sexual violence.

-the author acknowledges that a sea of people in black could be a powerful image for the movement, but asks why they don't just sit it out altogether

-changes her mind when mary j blige says she's going to participate

Billboard's Critics pick the top 25 Queen songs

    $
    0
    0

You probably don't have ears if you have never heard a Queen song somewhere, so Billboard took a look at Queen's discography and selected their top 25 picks with questionable levels of accuracy.

A lot of expected choices and three or four underrated gems are in the source, but here you have five songs and their rankings (including a brief write-up from me):

    #21. 39

Guitarist Brian May is tied to Freddie Mercury as the most prolific writer in Queen and is responsible for some of their biggest hits. "39," from the classic A Night At The Opera album, showcases May's passion for astrophysics, since it tells the story of space travellers who go on a 1-year trip only to come back and discover when they return that time has passed differently on Earth and their families are dead now. May also sings lead in the studio version.

#15. Who Wants To Live Forever

Another classic May song. Featured in the movie The Highlander, it is a daunting reflexion on mortality accompanied by amazing instrumentation and Freddie Mercury's impressive vocal performance. This power ballad has been covered by many famous artists, including Pavarotti, Sarah Brightman and Il Divo.

    #12. Radio Ga Ga

Everyone in Queen wrote at least one big international hit. Drummer Roger Taylor's Radio Ga Ga continues the trend of Taylor writing love-letters to technology/inanimate objects. The video was inspired by and uses footage of the German expressionist classic Metropolis. This already successful song was elevated with Queen's legendary performance at Live Aid and it also inspired Stefani Joanne Germanotta's stage name.

    #9. You're My Best Friend

Bassist John Deacon might be the most overlooked member of the band, but that didn't keep him from writing some memorable songs (and Queen's best-selling single Another One Bites the Dust). You're My Best Friend was a moderate hit when it was released and since then, it has been featured in many movies, shows, commercials and covers.

    #2. Under Pressure

Straight from what's probably Queen's most divisive album, Hot Space, comes a classic collaboration between the band and David Bowie. Under Pressure was an international hit and Queen's second no. 1 in the UK. The iconic bassline, which was created by John Deacon and Bowie, was later famously plagirized by Vanilla Ice.

Take a wild guess as to what they chose for #1... Anyhow, favorite Queen song?

Follow up to this post. Yesterday (and today, because apparently he just doesn't know when to delete his account), David Krumholtz apologised for working with Woody Allen on his most recent film, Wonder Wheel. When people questioned the timing and sincerity of his apology, however, he turned into a raging asshole and even attacked one of ONTD'S own members. I've compiled some of his worst tweets in hopes that some other media outlets might pick this up:

    • Lauren Schulner-Donner, responsible for most of the mess that is the X-Men film franchise, stated that she is very happy about the Disney/Fox merger, and she welcomes the idea of The X-Men teaming up with The Avengers.

    • “For me, I think Bob Iger is one of the smartest men in the country. Alan Horn’s an old friend. Kevin Feige was my intern and assistant and then my associate producer on the first X-Men. Kevin and I started the X-Men together, so for me if we work with Kevin, I’m happy.”

    • There is no word yet on how the current X-Men team will be affected by the merge, although they should recast everyone appropriately. Esepcially Cyclops, Mystique, and Jean because they are so miscast.

Okay but.....they should just restart it from scratch..with people the same age as the Avengers imo. Also the female characters need to be much more prominent or this will fail. No more Xavier/Magneto/Wolvie manpain. Also no tie-ins like below.

The gritty reboot, with a script for which has been likened to Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, stars Taron Egerton as Robin Hood, Jamie Foxx as Little John, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, Ben Mendelsohn as Sheriff of Notingham, and Jamie Dornan as Robin's brother, Will Scarlet.

Last year, Foxx described the film in a way that only raised more questions: "The way they shot it was crazy, it looks like you're watching Zero Dark Thirty. We're shooting with our bows, but they computer-generated it so it's rapid-fire, almost like an AK. I saw that and was like 'Oh, they ain't ready for this.'"

Robin Hood is slated for greatness a September 21, 2018 release.

Tommy Lee Calls Trisha Paytas a Bitch for Recreating a Pamela/Tommy Pic on Instagram

ONTD fave Trisha Paytas is no stranger to controversy, but she didn't expect to be called out by Tommy Lee for recreating a pic of Pamela and Tommy on Instagram. On the pic, Tommy Lee comented "This bitch needs to get a life... looks more like spam-ela." Aparently this all stems from a tweet of Trisha being surprised that he was dating Brittany Furlan (yes, the annoying Vine girl. Tommy Lee is dating the girl who does the racist Dora vines). Ms. Furlan aparently took this to heart and commenced the dragging of Trisha.

    • From the Sunday Times, Kaushal Odedra, a stand in for one of the leads of the Guy Ritchie-directed, Will Smith-starring film, described seeing as many as twenty “very fair skinned” actors in line outside make-up tents “waiting to have their skin darkened.”

    • The scenes are being filmed at Longcross studios in Surrey, the white actors were brought in to "fill in the many" background roles. There's also a reported 400 of 500 of background performers who are Indian, Middle Eastern, African, Mediterranean or Asian.

    • Odedra said of the experience: "Disney are sending out a message that your skin colour, your identity, your life experiences amount to nothing that can be powered on and washed off,"

Times Up Activists to join Meryl Streep and others at the Golden Globes

    - Michelle Williams, Emma Watson, Susan Sarandon, Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, Amy Poehler and Emma Stone will be joined by Times Up activists as guests at tonight’s event.

    - Tarana Burke, Marai Larasi, Rosa Clemente, Ai-jen Poo, Mónica Ramírez, Calina Lawrence, Billie Jean King and Saru Jayaraman – released the following statement ahead of the event: “As longtime organizers, activists and advocates for racial and gender justice, it gives us enormous pride to stand with the members of the TIMES UP campaign who have stood up and spoken out in this groundbreaking historical moment. We have each dedicated our lives to doing work that supports the least visible, most marginalized women in our diverse contexts. We do this work as participants in movements that seek to affirm the dignity and humanity of every person.

“Too much of the recent press attention has been focused on perpetrators and does not adequately address the systematic nature of violence including the importance of race, ethnicity and economic status in sexual violence and other forms of violence against women. Our goal in attending the Golden Globes is to shift the focus back to survivors and on systemic, lasting solutions. Each of us will be highlighting legislative, community-level and interpersonal solutions that contribute to ending violence against women in all our communities. It is our hope that in doing so, we will also help to broaden conversations about the connection to power, privilege and other systemic inequalities.

“Many of us identify as survivors of sexual harassment, assault and violence ourselves and we believe we are nearing a tipping point in transforming the culture of violence in the countries where we live and work. It’s a moment to transform both the written and unwritten rules that devalue the lives and experiences of women. We believe that people of all genders and ages should live free of violence against us. And, we believe that women of color, and women who have faced generations of exclusion – Indigenous, Black, Brown and Asian women, farmworkers and domestic workers, disabled women, undocumented and queer and trans women — should be at the center of our solutions. This moment in time calls for us to use the power of our collective voices to find solutions that leave no woman behind.

“This past year was a powerful one in the fight for gender equity and against sexual violence against women – from the Women’s March to the re-emergence of ‘me too’ as a viral hashtag that brought more than ten years of survivor-centered work to the mainstream. There is still much work to do, and many hands required to do it. We want to encourage all women- from those who live in the shadows to those who live in the spotlight, from all walks of life, and across generations- to continue to step forward and know that they will be supported when they do.

“The #TIMESUP initiative joins an ever-growing collective of organizations, movements, and leaders working to end gender-based violence. We look forward to partnering with them and others to organize, support all survivors, and find solutions that ensure a future where all women and all people can live and work with dignity.”

#TimeWarp: Lizzy Grant (AKA Lana Del Rey) debuts three new (old) tunes at a 2007 open mic

Before the fame afforded Lana Del Rey the ability to take her adoring audiences from LA to the Moon, it was a long road out of the trailer park for Lizzy Grant. We all know some variation of the story, but have had little video evidence to support it - until now. New (old) footage has surfaced of the Sparkle Jump Rope Queen workshopping a few tunes at what appears to be some kind of open mic night in 2007, including the slinky "For K Part 2" which would go on to appear on her infamously released-and-pulled 2010 debut for Five Points Records, 'Lana Del Ray AKA Lizzy Grant,' and provides a stark contrast to recordings of alt-pop's reigning queen commanding the stage in Minneapolis this past Friday. But while the aesthetic may have evolved, and the audience finally shuts up and listens, the decade old performance confirms what Lana's most ardent fans have known all along - the lyrical themes and greater vision were always there.
