Nicole Kidman on Big Little Lies, Moulin Rouge, and Oscars Mini-Dress | Screen Tests | W Magazine

In this "Screen Tests" interview, Nicole Kidman talks about how much her violent scenes in Big Little Lies disturb her husband Keith Urban. Her first Halloween memory was of dressing up as a ghost. Her favorite toy growing up was a Barbie doll, so her mother and grandmother would make her Barbie clothes. The most legendary New Year's Eve party was in 1999, during the filming of 'Moulin Rouge,' when Baz Luhrmann invited "all of Sydney" and Kidman shimmied with a snake. Nicole reminisces about the black velvet Valentino mini-dress she wore on the red carpet of the Academy Awards with Tom Cruise.

Selena Gomez posted a photo of her visiting her childhood home in Grand Prairie, Texas, with the caption:

The home I grew up in, from birth to 13... (no one was home when I knocked this time lol) I visit this place every chance I get. In many ways it very well could have been better than my life today, but I’m grateful for a voice that can enable change today. Even when I don’t know how to do it well or actually want it. I love you Grand Prairie. Thank you. ❤️

Brad Pitt Bids $120,000 To Watch "Game Of Thrones" With Its Star, Emilia Clarke

$

Both Brad Pitt, Emilia Clarke (and also that guy who plays Jon Snow) were at noted domestic abuser and sufferer of goblin shark-face (don't google that) Sean Penn's silent charity gala for Haiti relief.

The proceedings took place at Milk Studios in Los Angeles. The auctioned prize of watching a GoT episode with Emilia Clarke quickly rose from starting price $20,000 dollars to $120,000 which is astronomical if you've seen her act before. Supposedly the auctioneer took a moment to be supremely corny and shouted "Is the King of the North here?!” It turned out Harington was in the restroom at the time.

Pitt originally bid $80,000 then $90,000 but when Jon Snow agreed to be present as well, he raised his bid to $120,000 (yes to watch two people with Lifetime Channel-level acting skills)....which is interesting. He was beat by an $160,000 bid despite that exact amount still being a drop in bucket for him financially.

Other celebrities that attended: noted rape apologist Lena Dunham, noted sexual harasser & noted serial adulterer Arnold Schwarzenegger, noted tone deaf feminist Patricia Arquette and uh, Jason Segel.

Lastly, serial teen model dater and "Pussy Posse" leader Leo DiCaprio was honored for his work in evironmental issues, notably climate change. This is while Pilot refilled his private jet for the ride home and Boat Captain found a gaggle of barely legal blonde models for the subsequent yacht trip in Mykonos afterwards.

DiCaprio said this about Trump and the recent offshore drilling proposal:"Their denial of so much of the scientific proof and evidence belongs in ‘the Earth is flat’ chapter of human history."

He also gave a huge back pat to Penn and other celebrities for their charity efforts saying: "These are obviously incredibly turbulent and scary times. Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that has."

She should get on that Annabelle Wallis PR steez and suddenly refute dating &"Brad Pitt is pursuing Emilia Clarke rumors" after this for a quick profile boost because once GoT is over next year, sis's career will stagnate lbr.

Sasha Stone is alleging that there is an active whisper campaign against Get Out

- Sasha Stone tweeted out today that there is an active whisper campaign against Get Out. While Kris Talley replied back by saying that this normally happens with all contenders, Stone states that it’s not usually the case against a film that’s not a front runner.

- When films were submitted for consideration last year, the studio behind the film (corrected) put Get Out in Comedy/Musical as opposed to Drama. This irked Jordan Peele, who rightfully spoke out against it. Many film journalists have said that this rubbed the HFPA the wrong way which is why the film was snubbed in certain categories.

- Keep in mind the HFPA chose to nominate Gary Oldman, the same man who went on a rant about the HFPA.

• From the Sunday Times, Kaushal Odedra, a stand in for one of the leads of the Guy Ritchie-directed, Will Smith-starring film, described seeing as many as twenty “very fair skinned” actors in line outside make-up tents “waiting to have their skin darkened.”

• The scenes are being filmed at Longcross studios in Surrey, the white actors were brought in to "fill in the many" background roles. There's also a reported 400 of 500 of background performers who are Indian, Middle Eastern, African, Mediterranean or Asian.

• Odedra said of the experience: "Disney are sending out a message that your skin colour, your identity, your life experiences amount to nothing that can be powered on and washed off,"

• The Times has reached out to Disney for comment.

Times Up Activists to join Meryl Streep and others at the Golden Globes

$

0

- Michelle Williams, Emma Watson, Susan Sarandon, Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, Amy Poehler and Emma Stone will be joined by Times Up activists as guests at tonight’s event.

- Tarana Burke, Marai Larasi, Rosa Clemente, Ai-jen Poo, Mónica Ramírez, Calina Lawrence, Billie Jean King and Saru Jayaraman – released the following statement ahead of the event: “As longtime organizers, activists and advocates for racial and gender justice, it gives us enormous pride to stand with the members of the TIMES UP campaign who have stood up and spoken out in this groundbreaking historical moment. We have each dedicated our lives to doing work that supports the least visible, most marginalized women in our diverse contexts. We do this work as participants in movements that seek to affirm the dignity and humanity of every person.

“Too much of the recent press attention has been focused on perpetrators and does not adequately address the systematic nature of violence including the importance of race, ethnicity and economic status in sexual violence and other forms of violence against women. Our goal in attending the Golden Globes is to shift the focus back to survivors and on systemic, lasting solutions. Each of us will be highlighting legislative, community-level and interpersonal solutions that contribute to ending violence against women in all our communities. It is our hope that in doing so, we will also help to broaden conversations about the connection to power, privilege and other systemic inequalities.

“Many of us identify as survivors of sexual harassment, assault and violence ourselves and we believe we are nearing a tipping point in transforming the culture of violence in the countries where we live and work. It’s a moment to transform both the written and unwritten rules that devalue the lives and experiences of women. We believe that people of all genders and ages should live free of violence against us. And, we believe that women of color, and women who have faced generations of exclusion – Indigenous, Black, Brown and Asian women, farmworkers and domestic workers, disabled women, undocumented and queer and trans women — should be at the center of our solutions. This moment in time calls for us to use the power of our collective voices to find solutions that leave no woman behind.

“This past year was a powerful one in the fight for gender equity and against sexual violence against women – from the Women’s March to the re-emergence of ‘me too’ as a viral hashtag that brought more than ten years of survivor-centered work to the mainstream. There is still much work to do, and many hands required to do it. We want to encourage all women- from those who live in the shadows to those who live in the spotlight, from all walks of life, and across generations- to continue to step forward and know that they will be supported when they do.

“The #TIMESUP initiative joins an ever-growing collective of organizations, movements, and leaders working to end gender-based violence. We look forward to partnering with them and others to organize, support all survivors, and find solutions that ensure a future where all women and all people can live and work with dignity.”

#TimeWarp: Lizzy Grant (AKA Lana Del Rey) debuts three new (old) tunes at a 2007 open mic

Before the fame afforded Lana Del Rey the ability to take her adoring audiences from LA to the Moon, it was a long road out of the trailer park for Lizzy Grant. We all know some variation of the story, but have had little video evidence to support it - until now. New (old) footage has surfaced of the Sparkle Jump Rope Queen workshopping a few tunes at what appears to be some kind of open mic night in 2007, including the slinky "For K Part 2" which would go on to appear on her infamously released-and-pulled 2010 debut for Five Points Records, 'Lana Del Ray AKA Lizzy Grant,' and provides a stark contrast to recordings of alt-pop's reigning queen commanding the stage in Minneapolis this past Friday. But while the aesthetic may have evolved, and the audience finally shuts up and listens, the decade old performance confirms what Lana's most ardent fans have known all along - the lyrical themes and greater vision were always there.

There’s also the real world, beyond Maya’s control. In the aftermath of a horrific crime perpetrated hundreds of miles away, her life is turned upside down. Dread Nation, by Justina Ireland
Publication Date: April 3

Jane McKeene was born two days before the dead began to walk the battlefields of Gettysburg and Chancellorsville—derailing the War Between the States and changing America forever. In this new nation, safety for all depends on the work of a few, and laws like the Native and Negro Reeducation Act require certain children attend combat schools to learn to put down the dead. But there are also opportunities—and Jane is studying to become an Attendant, trained in both weaponry and etiquette to protect the well-to-do. It’s a chance for a better life for Negro girls like Jane. After all, not even being the daughter of a wealthy white Southern woman could save her from society’s expectations.

But that’s not a life Jane wants. Almost finished with her education at Miss Preston’s School of Combat in Baltimore, Jane is set on returning to her Kentucky home and doesn’t pay much mind to the politics of the eastern cities, with their talk of returning America to the glory of its days before the dead rose. But when families around Baltimore County begin to go missing, Jane is caught in the middle of a conspiracy, one that finds her in a desperate fight for her life against some powerful enemies. And the restless dead, it would seem, are the least of her problems.
