It's true – the Spice Girls really are no more.
After I revealed Baby, Sporty, Ginger and Scary had scrapped plans to tour as a foursome – which Mel C took to Twitter to furiously deny – Geri Halliwell has confirmed the sad, sad news.
But it’s not all doom and gloom because Geri is plotting another solo foray into the charts – with a little help from fellow ginge Ed Sheeran.
In an unlikely turn of events, the singer-songwriter has put Gezza in touch with his chief songwriter Amy Wadge and together the pair have been making sweet music. Well, music.
Gone are her It’s Raining Men days – for 40-year-old Geri, it’s now all about acoustic grooves.
Speaking at yesterday’s Ivor Novello awards at London’s Grosvenor House hotel, she said: “Amy wrote Gold Rush with Ed Sheeran – and we wrote in her shed together in Wales.
“I’m writing a new album and we’ve been doing stripped down, acoustic sets – I’m progressing to new sounds.
“My daughter [Bluebell] listens to my own music – the way I test a really great song is to ask a child whether they like it.
“Music for three minutes is like an antidepressant – it can lift you up, take you there, transport you to that first kiss, make love to it. Writing music should be joyful – I’m writing about love and filth.”
The former Spice Girl, who was originally spearheading plans for the band to do a 2014 world tour , confirmed the gigs were no more.
She said: “With the Spice Girls we all go, ‘No, I’m not going to do that’.
“So it’s a no for now but I’m learning that you never know what’s going to happen with us lot.”
Meanwhile, in a story so incredibly Geri Halliwell, the singer went on to describe an average day in the life of, well, Geri Halliwell. Explaining how her biggest compliment is when someone else performs one of her songs, she continued: “Once I was in George Michael’s house and he was going around humming a song.
“I caught him singing Mi Chico Latino – that was quite flattering. When someone else sings your song, you know you’ve written something good.”
A brilliant mental image.
Her last album was good, but her final single ever was one hot mess:
