Blazing on to the rap scene is fiery Harlem girl, Gita, who made blogosphere tidal waves a year ago with the Two Stacks produced debut 'Hood Rich' and ‘Let That’. Perhaps more girl power was exactly what we needed? Nevertheless gaining quick attention as the hip-hop hyped one to watch late last year. Raised in Oakland and LA, Gita moved to Harlem NY in 2010 and was soon discovered by Steve Willis who shot iconic music videos for the likes of Mary J. Blige in the 90s.
Those Missy Elliot and TLC 90s influences are evident in the ‘Hood Rich’ video, however Gita returns in 2013 with vibrant pink hair and Minnie Mouse hair knots for ‘Mardi Gras’ video. A futuristic switch for the female rapper as she delivers over inventive warped beats produced by South London’s Grime producer, Darq E Freaker.
The accompanying video was filmed in an abandoned Victorian house in London and captures Gita’s old school-inspired visual style in an ominous surrounding. Find yourself joining the hype? Gita will follow ‘Mardi Gras’ with a new EP set for release in late spring so hold fire until then.
