Brienne of Tarth might be one of the more somber, conservative characters on "Game of Thrones," but the actress who plays her, Gwendoline Christie, is nothing like that. The same can be said of Jaime Lannister's Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and putting the two of them together in real life is guaranteed comedy. The duo filmed might be enemies on screen, but they have developed a rapport after filming the majority of Season 3 together that is wonderful to see at play.
Zap2it attended a press day for "Game of Thrones" Season 3 and spoke to Christie and Coster-Waldau about what fans can expect from the next 10 episodes of HBO's hit fantasy series. Among the jokes being tossed between the two actors were some thoughtful teases of the upcoming season. Here are some highlights:

Christie and Coster-Waldau after being asked to tease their storylines this season...
Coster-Waldau: "Gwen."
Christie: "Okay, Nikolaj, thanks for tossing that over first. Ugh. Well, you know, as ever with 'Game of Thrones,' you expect the unexpected, so everything continues to be turned on its head. What do you think of that answer?"
Coster-Waldau: "Well, we just started so I'm going to be nice now. You did your best."
Christie: "Okay, okay, but I think maybe you could do better."
Coster-Waldau: "[laughs] No, it was a great answer. I think for us, when we meet them in episode 2 (bummed that they aren't going to be in the first episode :'( ), they're still on their way back to King's Landing. Jaime's not happy with this situation, she's in control, and he's trying his very best to get out of this situation, to get rid of her, and he does so in his own charming way I guess by driving her mad."
Christie: "He doesn't really drive her mad. He irritates her, but I wouldn't say he drives her mad. I think that would be a little, you know, overambitious of you to say that. I don't think anyone else would say that either, but that's your personal take."
On the actual ending of "A Song of Ice and Fire"...
Christie: "David Benioff bet Kit Harington $20 that he wouldn't jump on the revolving Iron Throne [at the Los Angeles 'Game of Thrones' premiere]. [Harington] did that and he said, 'Join me,' and I said, 'Why not?' And I jumped on his lap. ... Yes, that was the worst spoiler [for how the series ends]. We released the worst spoiler possible and we'd like to communicate that to the public. Brienne Snow. It's Brienne who is Jon Snow's mother."
On why Jaime and Brienne aren't in the premiere episode...
Christie: "We're not in [the show] at all. The whole thing. Just removed. It's a whole separate spinoff show." [Writer's note: Christie is totally joking, because Jaime and Brienne arrive in episode 2.]
On how Jaime and Brienne's relationship evolves in Season 3...
Christie: "She kills him. [laughs] It's the second episode, that's why they saved it. She kills him, and then he dies, and that's it. Yeah, and then she gets together with Jon Snow, and they unite, and then they share the Iron Thrones."
Coster-Waldau: "It is an adaptation."
Christie: "That's another spoiler for you."
Coster-Waldau: "I don't know how much we can tell you. In big terms, I'd say their relationship does evolve and there are a lot of twists and turns on their little journey."
Christie: "And I think they find themselves in situations they could never predict or expect."
On whether or not Jaime and Brienne will finally get to take their long-awaited bath after being in the woods for so long...
Coster-Waldau: "Well, maybe we might have a bath at some time."
Christie: "I think everybody washes."
Coster-Waldau: "I think Jaime would love a bath."

Christie about how Brienne's separation from Catelyn will affect her...
Christie: "I think Brienne's always been quite a solitary figure anyway. Away from [Catelyn], she's remaining faithful to her by carrying on her mission as best she can. The determination she shows to exercise her will over the slippery Jaime Lannister. He is shackled and she could kill him because he is antagonizing her. [Coster-Waldau gives her a look] You know, out of consideration for you I popped in the word 'shackled,' but I will do no such act of generosity from here on out.
"But she's carrying on the mission and she's carrying on the respect that she has for that woman and I think she's connected to her through her oath and what she's pledged. I don't think she misses her, I don't think it's an emotional kind of tearing. I think that Brienne has thus far not had that kind of connection to a human being before. Obviously there was Renly, but that was a relationship that was based very much in the mind more than actuality."
On the theme of Season 3...
Christie: "I think Season 2 was about war, and I think Season 3 is about the aftermath of that. It's so generalized, I'm sorry. Everything becomes just much more complex. It's so boring [an answer]."
