Orphan Black S1E2 "Instinct" Review

$

"Instinct" left us even more impressed with Tatiana Maslany as she continued to add roles as more clones popped up (and yes, she just keeps getting better and better). With Katya dead, she had to pose as the German to get into her hotel room—which was trashed, with a headless doll and red hair left behind—and fool hotel staff to get her briefcase, and Maslany was spot on in a way that let her pretend to be Katya while also reminding the viewer that this was still Sarah and she was still hustling. She was still set on getting out, getting her daughter back, and making off with the money, but first, she had to play the game a little longer, and that meant discovering more about herself and these other women. And the contents of the briefcase—vials of blood, records—just revealed that there were more women out there than just Beth and Katya. When the woman on the second phone hung up, Sarah went to Alison's address that she found in the briefcase and followed her to her kids' soccer practice. Yes, this one was an uptight soccer mom who really wasn't in the mood to deal with her—and had a gun she was willing to use to keep her quiet, especially around her kids. It was when Alison had her come over at the end of the episode that Sarah met the real voice on the phone, Cosima, another clone, and Alison realized that Sarah was completely in the dark. "How many of us are there?" Sarah asked, and the episode ended.
Something else this episode did was provide insight into Beth before she killed herself, and it wasn't a very pretty picture. In fact, it also helped to show why keeping Felix in her life is very important for Sarah. Beth clearly had no one. Paul didn’t know what was going on, and they had obviously been having problems before Sarah took over her life ("First you screw me wild for the first time in months, and then you don't even call me to tell me you're out all night?" He asked when Sarah returned to Beth's after burying the German.). In fact, things had apparently gotten so bad for Beth that he had been checking her nightly to make sure she was still breathing, worried she had been mixing pills and booze. Art was obviously in the dark, and it turned out that he had helped Beth cover up Maggie Chen's shooting because she had been tweaking that night. Beth was seemingly alone, trying to figure out everything and help other clones, like Katya. And that showcased why Sarah needs a confidante like Felix, someone to cover up what happened by lying to Mrs. S and telling her Sarah had faked her death to get away from Vic so her daughter wouldn't think she was dead, someone to serve as her backup (and provide some occasional humor for the show), and someone who provides ties to her old life as she gets deeper and deeper into Beth's and the conspiracy.
What the first two episodes have shown us so far is that this series has pretty much everything going for it, from solid writing and directing to an outstanding, very talented cast. There's just the right amount of humor in each hour, whether it's something Felix says (from "Vic, I have a knife and I will stab you in the face" and "Aren't you supposed to wait like three days before rising?" to his reaction to the suburbs), Sarah's "It's killing me" when the man from the front desk hotel asks if she's (Katya) enjoying the city, or Sarah's "I had to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond, okay? Nobody wants to admit that" to Art. At the heart of it, the show is about identity, about figuring out who you are, something Sarah was struggling with even before she became tangled up in the conspiracy as she tried to find a way to provide a good life for her daughter that didn't mean leaving her with Mrs. S. And it just keeps getting better. This show may be about clones, but at the same time, as these different clones have shown, from hustler Sarah to detective Beth to soccer mom Alison, it's very real too.

Real Housewives of New Jersey Stars Involved in Bloody Fight!!!

Jacqueline, her husband Christopher and Joe Gorga are facing criminal charges after a bloody, sink-throwing brawl reportedly broke out at a grand opening party for Kim D's new clothing store.

The trio allegedly attacked a guest after he made fun of the Lauritas' son Nicholas, 3, who suffers from autism, the couple revealed last year. Bravo cameras were reportedly rolling throughout the fight.

According to the Bergen Record, Ridgewood Judge Pfund determined there is probable cause to charge the Lauritas and Gorga with assault and terroristic threats after the alleged attack against John Karagiorgis of Paramus, N.J.

"It was a huge brawl," Jennifer Dunn, local salon owner who shares space with the new boutique said. "Three of Kim D's clothes racks were destroyed and three of our custom sinks were broken. There was blood on the walls." Kim D's damages are also said to be in the tens of thousands of dollar range.

Allegedly Jacqueline took off her shoes and bashed Karagiorgis on the head. A source denies the accusation and defends the stars. "She never used her shoe against [Karagiorgis]," says the source. "And everyone felt he came in there confrontational, and instigated the fight."

These charges come after Jacqueline told PEOPLE how the family has been lately. "We've all been through so much but we are in a really good place right now," she said at the Bravo upfront event Thursday. "We've put a lot of the bad blood behind us and worked through our issues."

Vicki Gunvalson's Own Mom Didn't Know She Had Plastic Surgery!

Get new nose. Check. Get new cheeks. Check. Tell Mom. Oops.

Vicki Gunvalson's own mother didn't even know her Real Housewives of Orange County star daughter had gone under the knife until she saw the new look on the show.

"And she saw me right after surgery," Gunvalson told PEOPLE Wednesday at the Bravo upfronts for TV writers in New York City.

Despite negative comments that have been stirred up regarding her overhaul, the original Housewife is staying positive.

"It's my body and it's my life. I'm only trying to make myself look the best I can be," she says. "I can't really worry about the haters. I just want to be with the lovers."

Despite "some cartilage reconstruction on my nose ... some fat injected in the upper part of my cheeks [and] a little chin implant," Gunvalson tells PEOPLE she doesn't even think she looks all that different.

"I did it right when we were filming because I was really numb, but now I don't think it's a big drastic change."

As for how she is handling reaction from the other Housewives, "I have to take it with a grain of salt," she says. "We have to work together. Some days you're going to agree with your cast members, and some days you're not. You just have to deal with it."

Porsha Stewart Resurfaces After Kordell Stewart Split: "This Is a Very Difficult Time"!

Porsha Stewart keeps on keepin' on. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star, 31, made her first official public appearance since news broke last week that husband Kordell Stewart had filed divorce papers after less than two years of marriage. The reality star was among many, many other Real Housewives and "Bravo-lebrities" for the Wednesday April 3 Bravo Upfronts bash in NYC.

The Georgia native hit the party's blue carpet in a flirty green dress and metallic silver pumps, gamely smiling for the cameras. It wasn't easy, she admitted to reporters. "This is a very difficult time for myself and my family," said the season-five newcomer, who was blindsided by former NFL pro Kordell's filing. "I'm just trying to remain strong. That's all I can do and stay prayerful and lean on my friends and family."

During the couple's first season on the show, they butted heads over having kids, Porsha's career plans and Kordell's controlling ways. Porsha counterfiled with her own divorce papers late last week, asking for spousal support and use of their Atlanta mansion.

How is Porsha getting by with her newly single life? "Well, when you have strong arms and strong family around you, they cover you – that's what they're there for," she explained. "So that's who I'm leaning on. And it's really a blessing to see people, supporters and fans are standing up and just really showing me the love."

Also at the bash, former castmate Kim Zolciak offered her two cents on the split. "I would never wish divorce upon my worst enemy," said the married mom of four. "If your marriage is not sound and strong, I do think there are problems. . . I definitely would not expose myself on television if [husband Kroy Biermann and I] were not in a really great place."

Joe Giudice opts for trial over plea deal!

Clifton attorney Miles Feinstein would not say what the state was offering in return for his client’s guilty plea, but he said it included prison time. In October, Giudice rejected an offer that would have carried a possible five years in state prison.

Feinstein said a trial date is expected to be set May 28.

Giudice, 43, of Montville, is accused of using his brother Pietro’s identity in an attempt to obtain a driver’s license at the Motor Vehicle Commission office in Paterson in June 2010. In New Jersey, obtaining a false driver’s license is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Authorities allege that Giudice obtained a driver’s license using marriage and birth certificates that belong to his 39-year-old brother. At the time, Giuseppe Giudice’s license had been suspended for driving while intoxicated after he flipped his pickup while driving in Montville in January 2010.

Prosecutors began to investigate the brothers when Pietro was pulled over by Lincoln Park police. When the police officer ran Pietro’s information through a dashboard computer, the search produced Giuseppe’s photograph, authorities said.

The defendant is married to Teresa Giudice, one of the cast members of the Bravo TV show, which takes place in various North Jersey locations.

Trish Stratus is one of the newest WWE Hall of Famers, but this fall, the first-ever Diva of the Decade will add yet another honor to her list of accolades: motherhood.

“I just wanted to let you all know that in September, I’ll be delivering a little Stratusfaction,” an ecstatic Trish announced to the WWE Universe, which responded with overwhelming approval for the mother-to-be.

“It was awesome,” Trish told WWE.com moments after her bombshell announcement. “As a public personality, you wonder what’s the right time to tell everybody. Of course, when I got the news I would be inducted this year, I definitely found out I was pregnant, and so I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, I’ll be four months, I should tell them!’ ”

It was a conversation with a longtime friend who made up Trish’s mind to break the news on her big night.

“Me and Stephanie actually talked about it and thought it would be a great chance to announce it,” Trish said. “It’s my family out there. They’ve been part of my life for so long, the WWE Universe, and to actually share the news with them was wonderful. And the reaction was nice. They like the Stratus baby!”

So, is an in-ring future in the cards for said Stratus baby?

“Whatever he or she would like to do, I will support just as I was supported by my family,” Trish said of a possible heir to her Hall of Fame legacy.

Congratulations, Trish and husband Ron!

Stephanie McMahon takes the stage to induct Trish Stratus, and pays homage to all the interaction Trish had with her family. Steph says they are some of her favorite moments on TV. Stephanie puts over Trish and her career and says Trish always made people feel how she wanted them to feel. She put over Trish’s 2004 Raw main event with “another great Diva”, Lita. Stephanie says Trish is the first Diva to compete in five WrestleMania matches and according to Trish, she may not be done.

Trish comes out and says Stephanie is a great friend, mother and businesswoman. Trish says the last time she was at MSG, she was making her final bow on Raw and now she’s back with bling. Trish does a little comedy bit, rolling out a huge long list of people to thank. The crowd is really loving her as she thanks the fans first. Trish makes fun of the fact she was so bad when she started in WWE and says the crowd literally watched her grow up. She smiles cheekily and says she hopes we were all Stratusfied. Trish thanks former WWE Canada president and her trainer Ron Hutchinson. Trish mentions that Edge, Christian, the “beautiful” Beth Phoenix and the “great” Gail Kim trained at Sully’s Gym. She then thanks Jim Ross. Trish pulls out the pen gave her to sign her first WWE contract out of her cleavage and tells the camera to get a close-up. She jokes that she’ll cover up the F in WWF so the “pandas don’t get pissed off”. The crowd goes nuts. She then thanks Fit Finlay for everything he did for the Divas and making it the golden era. Trish says Molly Holly, Ivory, Jazz, Victoria, Mickie James, Jacqueline and her bestie Lita made the golden era. She tells Lita how much she means to her and says I love you. Lita looks like she is tearing up. She thanks the other girls for building something special and says working with the McMahons pushed her to be better because it was so much pressure. Trish says she brought 25 Greeks from Toronto with her and thanks her family for always supporting her. She thanks her mom and says one of the reasons she retired is because her mom was diagnosed with cancer and she needed to be there. Her mom is now cancer-free. Trish thanks her husband Ron for always being there and the crowd boos him, but she threatens the crowd for booing her man! Trish says she’s so in love with her husband and she’s so glad to share her WWE career with her high school sweetheart. Trish announces she’s pregnant saying she’s going to be delivering some Stratusfaction in September. Crowd changes towards her husband and now cheering him.

OMG I AM SO EXCITED FOR TRISH! I CAN'T WAIT FOR HER TO ENTER MOTHERHOOD! I WAS LEGIT TEARING UP READING HER SPEECH! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT ON TV! THANK YOU TRISH FOR ALL THE MEMORIES! <3

Carey Mulligan: 'Nude scenes have helped me deal with body issues,' talks Great Gatsby

Carey Mulligan has revealed that nude scenes have helped her overcome her body issues.

The Great Gatsby actress said that she found getting naked for scenes with Michael Fassbender in Shame"liberating", reports The Sun.

"In my own life I'm very prudish about my body, or at least I have been in the past," she said.

"I'm always covering myself up rather than wearing skimpy outfits. I don't look good in very short skirts - at least I don't think so.

"I'm often terrified about different aspects of characters I'm playing."

Mulligan starred alongside Fassbender in the Steve McQueen directed film in 2011 and despite being nervous about the scenes, she insisted that it was important for the character that she do them.

"With respect to nudity, it was vital to the character in Shame, who wasn't supposed to be a very attractive character and needed to be emotionally naked and lost in different ways," she said.

"This is who she is - a character who can stand fully naked in front of her brother and not feel anything.

"But doing the nudity for Shame was actually very liberating for me and it helped me deal with my own issues with my body."

The 27-year-old is starring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in the upcoming Baz Luhrmann adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel The Great Gatsby. Tobey Maguire and Isla Fisher also star in the film.

Mulligan described the Twenties dresses that she wears in the movie as "stunning".

"They're quite stunning but I also made sure I was doing Pilates and going to the gym regularly, which most of us in the cast were doing so we could look our best," she said.

The actress added that it was a "dream come true" to work with DiCaprio, saying that he is "one of the greatest actors in the business".

The Great Gatsby will be released in cinemas in the US on May 10 and in the UK on May 16.

Just watched Shame yesterday and am writing a paper on it for my film class. I loved Carey in it, she reminded me a lot of some of the crazy women I've known in my life. I was also not expecting her to have a nude scene in this movie but I liked that it wasn't done in a sexual context.

A photograph of what appeared to be her smoking a suspicious hand-rolled cigarette was uploaded on Instagram back in February.

And on Saturday, the star sparked concerns once again when she was pictured enjoying what appeared to be the same on her hotel balcony.

The 20-year-old singer was seen inhaling and puffing smoke into the air as she sat outside at her accommodation in Miami, Florida with the brown paper coated item.

What is she smoking? Miley Cyrus took a drag of a suspicious looking hand-rolled cigarette on her hotel balcony in Miami, Florida

Miley chatted to friends as they relaxed on a veranda, looking as though she had just woken up as she donned only a black T-shirt with gold writing across.

The star, who had tied her short pixie blonde hair up on top of her head, squinted her eyes as she took a deep drag of the cigarette with her left hand, which was missing the engagement ring given to her by fiancé Liam Hemsworth.

Tonight Show' Battle Between Jay L And Jimmy Fallon Proves Late Night TV Is Still A White Men' Club

$
0
0

LOS ANGELES — The role of female talk show hosts in late-night TV broadcast network history, all 50-plus years of it, can be summed up in two words: Joan Rivers. It takes just another two – Arsenio Hall – to do the same for minorities.

There's no indication that's going to change in the latest round of musical chairs involving "Tonight" and "Late Night." All the NBC, ABC and CBS showcase jobs at 11:30 p.m. Eastern and later appear likely to remain securely in white men's hands.

Jay Leno is handing off to Jimmy Fallon, with speculation tagging Seth Meyers as his likely successor. Meanwhile, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, Craig Ferguson and Carson Daly are sitting pretty, without the faintest drumbeat of a pair of advancing high heels to signal a threat.

There have been alternatives bandied about – Chelsea Handler, black comedian-writer Aisha Tyler – but no hints they or others are getting traction.

"In real life it seems to me that women have definitely shown themselves to be able to carry on a conversation," said Merrill Markoe, the Emmy Award-winning writer who helped David Letterman create "Late Night" at NBC. "Women have exhibited an interest in talking for centuries. I'm not sure how it is that no one has seemed to notice."

NBC did not respond to requests for comment on the issue. But if belles du jour Tina Fey and Amy Poehler can excel at TV sitcoms and movies and teach Ricky Gervais a thing or two (or three) about hosting the Golden Globes, could they be queens of the night with their own talk shows? Or maybe a Hispanic or Asian-American man could have a turn. We may miss out on a "Jimmy Kimmel Live" clip of a heavyset woman lifting her T-shirt, and the host then warning us, "I need to take a break. I'm going to throw up," but we might get other thrills.

Women and minorities have conquered other traditionally white male-dominated arenas, on and off TV – think anchorwoman Diane Sawyer, President Barack Obama – but in late-night even daring cable is content with the homogenized likes of Conan O'Brien, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, with such occasional dashes as E!'s Handler, BET's Mo'Nique and TBS' now-gone George Lopez thrown in.

Rivers, who became host of Fox's "The Late Show" in 1986 after filling in as the sole regular guest host on Johnny Carson's "Tonight," calls the lack of female hosts "beyond" frustrating.

Blame the broadcast industry's resistance toward change and the risk of failure, she said: "Everybody is running so scared, and has always run scared."

And executives can find reasons, or excuses, for keeping the status quo.

"They had surveys at NBC, and the surveys were that women would rather watch a man at night, which is what they're always throwing up in your face," Rivers said.

That's an argument that's still made, privately, in the industry: Women want to hear their pre-bedtime monologue jokes from a man, while Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres and Katie Couric are welcome in daytime.

It's true that women make up a majority of the audience for every network late-night show. ABC's Kimmel, for instance, is averaging 1.4 million female viewers and 770,000 male viewers this season, while Leno is watched by 1.9 million women and 1.5 million men, according to Nielsen Co. ratings.

But "Chelsea Lately" casts doubt on the notion of women snubbing women. Of Handler's 650,000 viewers, about 65 percent are female – a higher percentage of women than any male network host except Kimmel, who's about even with that number.

While networks also have to worry about drawing male viewers, especially the advertiser-coveted younger ones, the hard truth is that battle is being lost to edgier cable hosts – Stewart, Colbert and O'Brien all have majority-male audiences – and to the video games and online distractions that consume their attention.

The networks have other reasons to reconsider their white-guys-only strategy, according to an analysis of Nielsen data: They are losing out on minority viewers, Hispanics in particular.

Of the total 3.44 million viewers averaged by "Tonight" for the season through March 24, there were 188,000 Hispanics. That's about 5 percent of the total audience, compared to the nearly 17 percent Latino slice of the U.S. population.

The other late-night shows show similar degrees of disconnect with Hispanics, although some can boast healthy black viewership.

"Guess what? America's becoming more diverse," said Darnell Montez Hunt, a University of California, Los Angeles, professor who studies race and media. Late-night shows "could grow a larger and diverse audience by making different choices behind the camera and in front of the camera."

That means, in part, casting a wider net for young comedians and giving them a chance to develop into big league material, as Fallon was able to do when he moved from "Saturday Night Live" to "Late Night."

There are plenty of comers to choose from, said Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada, who sees a parade of talented women and minorities on stage as his comedy clubs in the Los Angeles area and Chicago.

"I could give your three or four names who could be the best host," he said. "Tony Rock, the brother of Chris Rock, would be a fantastic guy to do a talk show."

TBS turned to an established comic in 2010 when it launched "The George Lopez Show." But when Lopez was bumped back an hour to midnight to make way for O'Brien's post-"Tonight" effort, ratings fell and Lopez got a pink slip. He had averaged 910,000 viewers at 11 p.m. Eastern; so far this season, O'Brien is averaging just under 600,000 – and just earned a renewal through 2015.

Lopez is canceled, Wanda Sykes loses her low-rated Saturday night Fox show, and it gives networks an out, said UCLA's Hunt: "They'll point to the example of the cautionary tale as to why diversity is not a good thing for the bottom line."

But Garth Ancier saw firsthand the value of going against the grain in his tenure as Fox's first entertainment programming chief.

While Rivers' Fox stint was relatively brief – the network cited low viewership, she blames a business clash – it helped give a boost to Hall, one of the guest hosts who succeeded her, and proved there was an audience appetite for something new.

"Arsenio was getting ratings almost immediately because there was no one like him on late night," recalled Ancier. Hall made such a splash that, although Fox failed to snap him up, he struck a syndication deal and was on the air from 1989-94.

Ancier, who later moved over to the WB that launched in 1995 (and which later merged with UPN to form the CW), tried to go the non-traditional route again by proposing a Rosie O'Donnell talk show.

"We couldn't get enough enthusiasm from affiliates," he said.

Network affiliate stations are indeed part of late-night's resistance to change, said Christine Becker, an associate professor at Notre Dame University who writes the News For TV Majors blog.

Since lucrative local newscasts flow into talk shows, there's an "inherent fear" at networks that stations or sponsors will be alienated by unfamiliar fare, Becker said. Keeping viewers from flipping also conveniently delivers them back to the same channel the next morning.

But at least some local station executives say they are ready to switch it up.

"To me, it's all about popularity, if it's a man or a woman or whatever," said John O'Brien, vice president and general manager of NBC affiliate WNDU in South Bend, Ind. "If it's an individual that's entertaining in a late-night time slot and viewers like them, that's what we want."

"I'd like to see a female in there. Count me in," said Lisa Howfield, vice president and general manager of the network affiliate KVBC in Las Vegas.

It will happen, said Rivers, 79, who revisits her tumultuous talk-show career on this weekend's episode of her WE TV series, "Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?"

"The right women in front of the camera will be just fine. It was fine when I did it, and it will be fine again," she said.

As for the minority presence in late-night, that's getting a boost this September with Hall's return. Is NBC, CBS, ABC or Fox to be the broadcast network home to "The Arsenio Hall Show"? None of the above. It's syndicated.

Game of Thrones
Thank you Gwendoline for joining us today! Do you have any first thoughts to your fans?

Gwendoline Christie says:

I want to thank you for being interested. I’m really flattered and overwhelmed. I’m not so surprised that they’re interested in her.

raebae9
What about your personality makes you perfect for the role of Brienne of Tarth? #GameOfThrones #FSU #HBOCollege

Gwendoline Christie says:

I've had similar experiences to that character. I feel I understand her psyche and understand her choices. Obviously she's a fictional character and I, apparently a real person, but we've definitely shared similar experiences. I understand her feelings of being marginalized due to the way that she looks.

raebae9
If you could live anywhere in Westeros where would you live and why? #FSU #HBOCollege

Gwendoline Christie says:

I think King's Landing looks nice, doesn't it? I quite fancy the Lannister home. Might have to get some central heating in there.

JonnyPWilson
Gwendoline, if you had to play any other character in Game of Thrones, who would you be and why?

Gwendoline Christie says:

There's loads after. I'd really love to play Cersei because I think she comes with a rather nice set of cheekbones and I rather fancy those.

radiowammo
High heels or medieval boots?

Gwendoline Christie says:

High heels. Always. Medieval boots are for weekends.

nmaz23
Don't you think it is a bit dangerous leaving one person in charge of the king slayer? Or do you feel like Brienne is tough enough.

Gwendoline Christie says:

Brienne is more than equipped to deal with that sniveling rat.

LiamWSwann
Do you have any other projects in the works, perhaps film work?

Gwendoline Christie says:

I'm hoping so. There's nothing that's confirmed but it's all looking very exciting. Really looking forward to more Game of Thrones.

What do you find the most difficult in your portrayal of Brienne?

Gwendoline Christie says:

It's really hard to be as good as she is at everything. Particularly in terms of her strength and skill. That's the hardest thing. I quite like looking mucky, it's quite nice not having to care about how you look. It's nice that the worse you look the better portrayal it is the character. It's quite liberating.

RoverKelevra
What do you think are Brienne's greatest strengths and weaknesses?

Gwendoline Christie says:

I think she has incredible moral sense that is really focused and determined and she has a very clear idea of what she believes is right and wrong. She will dedicate her life to what is right and for justice to be done and what is a really pure justice. I think the flip side to that is that she could perhaps be missing out on life and more experiences and more of the tender aspects of life. What do i know? She's amazing with a sword. If I were amazing with a sword I wouldn't care about the tender things in life.

TomasMartin21
Did you get to do any improvising in scenes or were there any funny moments on set?

Gwendoline Christie says:

I work w/ Nikolai so it's excepted that there will be no funny moments on set. No, he's hysterical. The relationship we have offset is one long improvisation. In the scene were I’m canoeing Jamie Lannister. I learned how to canoe the night before and the amazing GoT aquatics team taught me how to canoe. It was the first time we worked together (Jamie) and he was desperately trying to get home for his daughter’s birthday so he’s lying there in his robe in the boat and I was clambering in like a tin man in armor and the whole thing is rocking back and forth. I have a wet suit underneath so it’s rather hard to move around and carrying a sword. I was so sure we would capsize and Nikolaj is pressuring me that we needed to get home. I was desperately trying not to capsize the boat but he was irritating me so much that I could help but tip the boat to see his reaction.

xxbeetlejuicexx
Is it hard for you to interpret Brienne, a strong woman that fear nothing?

Gwendoline Christie says:

It's not hard to interpret it because really, my job is just about pretending. So, it's really exciting to pretend to be a strong woman that fears nothing because most of us are vulnerable characters that fear everything. It's incredibly pleasurable to inhabit that and for that to be my job.

EaZeeeY
Do you see yourself as a knight in real life?

Gwendoline Christie says:

Yes.

Reem_Bazzi0
Is Brienne in love with Renly? Will she fall in love with Jaime?

Gwendoline Christie says:

Brienne WAS in love with Renly, yes. I don't' think we're seeing any evidence of her falling in love with Jamie, no. But what does everyone else think? It's quite a hateful relationship at the moment. He's pretty hateful towards her and she doesn't like him at all. She doesn't respect him. I think that hate is quite an extreme feeling and can often be close to love. In that situation, anything can happen, can't it?

fiamike
What does Brienne secretly want out of life?

Gwendoline Christie says:

I think she wants love and acceptance.

OhBendy
Your acting is phenomenal, invisible, like you're fully inhabiting Brienne. How did u approach getting to an understanding of the character?

Gwendoline Christie says:

That's so nice that they think that, so wonderful. I'm so flattered, I really am. I just feel like I undestand this character. Sometimes something just chimes inside of you that you know this character and that it's within you and if that's what someone has experienced with my character then I couldn't be happier. I'm absolutely thrilled.

LiamWSwann
How does it feel to know your character is empowering for women?

Gwendoline Christie says:

Brilliant. Personally justifies my choice to be an actor and I mean that. The thing is, it's not my character. It's George RR Martin's character and Dan and David's character. I couldn't be happier. I hope this opens up opportunities in the main stream for female actors and I hope women get something out of it.

raebae9
How do you feel that you personally have developed Brienne of Tarth beyond the pages of the books? #FSU #HBOCollege

Gwendoline Christie says:

That character is so well drawn in the books. It's so specific in the books and I really fell in love with her in the books. I don't think I had to develope her beyond what's in the books. I just bring my personal experiences but that's just what an actor does.

SitaDalloway
What do you think Brienne and Jaimie could learn from each other? And do you think Jaimie can change? Greetings from Chile :>

Gwendoline Christie says:

I think everybody has the capacity for change. From what we've seen so far, what he exhibits is a likeness and humor and a wit and I think that that could be a welcome condition to Brienne's life. I'm such a huge fan and I'm really happy with her the way she is. I could try to take a step back and look and her character objectively but I'm so close to the character so I'm very protective.

vagnerfonseca
Gwen, what you do to relax and fun, what you like?

Gwendoline Christie says:

i absolutely love to relax and have fun. I like socializing, i like chatting, I like dancing, mixing with friends. I like to do something that's the complete opposite of the discipline that's required in my work. I REALLY like shopping for shoes and spending time in the cinema.

serpintina1
How has playing Brienne affected your real life, or has it had any impact on you?

Gwendoline Christie says:

It's had massive impact on me. Not just in my working life but I'm really thrilled to be playing this character. But who knows, hopefully I'll. I think she's a really superb archetype to be in such a mainstream show. It's really exciting to be a part of that and to be dipping into that psychology and use them in your work. It's a really thrilling and welcome part of my life.

GameOfThrones
That's all the time we have for today's Q&A. Gwendoline, is there anything else you'd like to say to your fans before we go?

Gwendoline Christie says:

I’m really overwhelmed by peoples’ response to my interpretation of this character and I’m really, really grateful. It touches me deeply when people say they feel something that resonates with them. But I’m not surprised, George RR Martin has drawn a erally extraordinary character, pretty unusual and breaks a lot of boundaries and David and Dan have done a sensational job adapting that. I’m so thrilled to be playing it and that people like. It’s a terribly corny thing to say but I mean that. It overwhelms me.

Edited my OP note because I don't even remember the interview, lol I am such a flop. Anyway, Gwen is flawless.

Evil Dead: 5 Ways the Horror Flick Is a Shock to the System

After watching the red band trailer over and over the big day is here. Evil Dead has hit theaters! Produced by writer-director Sam Raimi and star Bruce Campbell (Burn Notice) of 1981's The Evil Dead, the creative reins for this reimagining were handed off to new writer-director Fede Alvarez. Alvarez originally met with Raimi to produce a full-length feature based on his short Panic Attack (2009). When that film got put on hold, Raimi asked the young filmmaker if he'd be interested rebooting Evil Dead. He definitely was.

Fans of the splatter genre should be too. The premise is nearly identical to the original: Two guys and three gals decide to spend a weekend in a old wooden shack and accidentally unleash the dead (called Deadites) when one of them says a few words from an ancient book, The Necronimicon, aka the book of the dead. One by one these BFFs turn on each other, until only one is left.

The original spawned an instant classic sequel (ED2: Dead By Dawn) and the way-out-there medieval fantasy jaunt The Army of Darkness. Each film got sillier and sillier but Ash (Campbell) grounded the series with physical comedy and groovy one-liners. Wisely, the new film doesn't have new leading man Shiloh Fernandez attempting his own Ash. His character, David is more down-to-earth. The true standout is Surburgatory 's Jane Levy as Mia, sister of David. An action-packed, extremely gory, 90 minutes await you at the multiplex. Here are six ways Evil Dead keeps the jolts coming.

1. The Goriest R-rated Film of the 21st Century: When the original Evil Dead was released in 1981, it was deemed too violent for an R by the MPAA, but nowyou can see the cult classic on network television. Gore hounds can get their fill of decapitations every week on AMC's The Walking Dead. Unlike that hit series, however, the blood in Evil Dead doesn't look computer-generated. Wherever possible Alvarez used practical effects. There are a few shots that look computer-tweaked, but pretty much every nail pierced, every limb dismembered was shot in camera, which goes a long way to convince even the most skeptical that you really can splice through anything with an electric kitchen knife.

2. The First Scream has Zero to Do with Deadites, Everything to Do with Going Cold Turkey: One of the best aspects of this new version of Evil Dead is that Mia (Levy) has ventured to this cabin in the woods to control her drug addiction. She tried quitting before, but only lasted eight hours. Friends Olivia (Jessica Lucas) and Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci) will not let this happen again. As long as estranged bro David (Fernandez) doesn't give in to Mia's pleas to leave, everything will be fine. It's a great hook ensuring that once Mia comes to face-to-muddy-face with "It," no one believes her. They think it's just the junkie trying to trick them!

3. It Really Is "the Most Most Terrifying Film You Will Ever Experience:" The film has an unrelenting editing style. Most horror scenes cut away from the "good stuff" by literally slamming a door on the viewer. Here a doors slam, but we're stuck in the same room as Deadite and a soon to be victim. Director Alvarez taunts. Almost dares us to look away. Don't! What, you don't wanna be trapped in a restroom with her?!

4. Tons of Easter Eggs for Fans of the original Evil Dead Trilogy: If you don't know the difference between a Book of the Dead and a Book of Spells don't worry, the plot is easy enough to follow, but if you have seen the original Dead pics you're in a for a treat. An old Cadillac makes an appearance, as does Raimi's rip-roaring demon-in-the-forest POV and so much more. Plus, in some cases, certain character traits are switched. And let's just say that old way of dispensing the Necronimicon ain't gonna work this time. Bonus: Be sure to stick around for the credits for a cool bit of audio nostalgia. And at end of the credits? Super brief, but so totally worth it.

5. Jane Levy is Officially a Scream Queen: Levy earns her cred by wrestling a nasty thorn bush, burning herself in a shower and proclaiming "You're all going to die tonight." Once she's put in the cellar, the real fun begins as Levy amps up possession 'tude to new heights of cray cray. All at once she's creepy and quite funny. Does she ever let up? Sure, even a chainsaw gal like Mia takes time out to bask in blood-soaked rain. That's her kind of downtime.

Can you stomach it? Will you be doing an Evil Dead marathon this weekend? Sound off in the comments!

Kim Zolciak's unaltered recording of "The Ring Didn't Mean a Thing" leaks

Listen, whatever you do, NEVER throw shade to the b!tch holding the umbrella. Bae-Bae, I will be the first person to tell you that I never really quite understood all this lawsuit stuff between Kandi Burruss & Kim Zolciak. Publishing, royalties, contracts, all that stuff was just too technical and too confusing for me. I didn’t understand why they just couldn’t split the monies down the middle. HOWEVER, after hearing this unedited version of Kim singing The Ring Doesn’t Mean A Thing, Kandi deserves 100% of the money from Tardy For The Party and should have paid Kim for her time with a fruit basket.

“See what’s going on here is you kind of don’t know what you’re doing with your voice” ~Jan Smith, vocal Coach

Remember when the vocal coach told that to Kim? Boy was she right. Chile get ready to holler. This unedited version of Kim singing is proof that Kandi Burrus just might know what she’s doing in the studio. If Kandi was able to make anything out of Kim’s mouth profitable, then I imagine the contestants on her up coming show just may have a chance in hell at stardom. Check it out…

Jenna Jameson was allegedly arrested for battery over the weekend while celebrating her birthday in California.

The 38-year-old was in Newport Beach, Calif., on Saturday for some early birthday celebrations, according to TMZ. Around 8 p.m. Jameson reportedly assaulted an unidentified victim. The victim then put the porn star under citizen's arrest until the police arrived.

Jameson was cited for battery, TMZ reported, and later released.

She was scheduled to appear at Heat Ultra Lounge in Orange County, on Saturday for an official birthday celebration. There is no word on the club's official Facebook page whether she showed up or not.

Jameson will turn 39 on April 9, but she has been celebrating her birthday since last month. The parties first started in Las Vegas at Crazy Horse III Gentleman's Club on March 23.

This isn't the first time the XXX star has been arrested.

Last year, Jameson was arrested for DUI after she crashed her car into a light pole in Southern California. She later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years of informal probation, given a $340 fine and ordered to participate in a Mothers Against Drunk Driving "victims' impact panel," the Associated Press reported.

It is unclear if the recent charges will affect her probation.

Benedict Cumberbatch wows dedicated fan after filming Sherlock in Cheltenham

WHEN teenager Jenessa Baber joined the crowds where Benedict Cumberbatch was filming Sherlock she was hoping to catch a fleeting glimpse of her hero – what she got instead will stay with her forever.

The Hollywood heartthrobstopped to talk one-on-one with the 16-year-old for 10 minutes, posing for a photo with her and even writing a personal message in her Sherlock book.

i can't hate

Dozens of fans had braved the cold to wait outside The Daffodil restaurant in Suffolk Parade, Cheltenham, where Benedict was shooting episodes of the hit BBC1 show on Monday and Tuesday.

Jenessa, from Wotton-inder- Edge, was so determined to meet her hero, she stayed outside The Daffodil long after the crowds had gone on Monday and it paid off when she caught Benedict at around 9pm.

The film studies A-Level student at Katharine Lady Berkeley's School said: "We were the only people there and Ben was so lovely and devoted a whole bunch of time to us even though he had his car waiting.

"I told him I wrote him a letter, but gave it to someone else to hand to him. I had left it earlier as I didn't think I'd get the chance to see him.

"He said, 'I got it, thank you so much. I wrote you a letter back on the back of the envelope and got my friend to bring it out to you, but he couldn't find you. I'm going to get a picture signed and sent to you'.

"He asked me if I was on Twitter, and for me to give everyone a message from him that he was sorry he didn't come out and see them, but he had so much work to do.

"He also thinks that the Sherlock fanbase are a very intelligent bunch and he's very proud and appreciative of us.

"We took the photo and he waited and asked me if I was happy with the photo.

"He said, 'I usually hate the way I look in photos; I could be here all night trying to get a good one'.

"He really was very generous and caring and appreciative of all his fans."

In the book, Benedict wrote: 'Dear Jenessa, thank you so much for your patience and lovely mooving letter. It's really appreciated. Yours Benedict Cumberbatch x'.

"He said'You know I'm tired because I do believe I just put two 'O's' in moving', and then he went on to try and say 'moving' like 'Moo-oo-ving'," added Jenessa.

Jaime Pressly, Estella Warren Fight at Hollywood Club, Cops Called

Actresses Jaime Pressly and Estella Warren reportedly got into a fight in Los Angeles over the weekend and cops were called to intervene.

Pressly and Warren's fight went down on Friday at a birthday party at Hollywood's Bootsy Bellows, according to Us Weekly. The magazine reports that things got "crazy" after Pressly, 35, discovered Warren, 34, with her assistant's purse that had gone missing from an earlier house party. Pressly confronted Warren, who claimed the purse was hers even though Pressly's assistant's belongings were allegedly inside.

Visit Us Weekly to read the full story.

Drugs were allegedly found in the purse, but Pressly and her assistant insisted the drugs were not theirs. West Hollywood police confirmed they responded to two calls at Bootsy Bellows on April 5, including a theft report at 2 a.m. The investigation is ongoing.

PopCandiesTV has a video of Warren leaving the club after police arrived on the scene.

Although neither actress has spoken on the incident specifically, Warren did tweet a seemingly telling message.

The Huffington Post has reached out to Pressly's representatives for comment.

Both actresses have had run-ins with the law in the past.

Warren was arrested in May 2011 after she hit three parked cars in Los Angeles and then fled the scene. After cops tracked her down, the "Planet of the Apes" actress was arrested for DUI. When cops attempted to apprehend her, she assaulted one of the officers and was re-arrested for felony battery on an officer, according to the Associated Press.

That same year, Pressly was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Santa Monica, Calif., People previously reported. She eventually pleaded no contest.
