Alicia Vikander may be the real winner of The Danish Girl

Author argues that even though this was supposed to be Eddie's moment, Alicia's performance is the real winner here. Highlights:

- "The first publicity still of Redmayne in costume as Elbe — looking not unlike a moodier Jessica Chastain — set the Internet ablaze, with casual and industry pundits alike marking him as a best actor nominee before seeing a single frame of film."

- "The presumption had been that Vikander’s role in “The Danish Girl” [...] was a secondary one. Many actresses have received supporting nominations for picking a character from the “supportive-spouse” pile, often as a kind of running mate for a flashier lead performance; fewer actors have benefited from the same strategy, though that’s the Bechdel-challenged industry for you."

- "Yet the surprise of “The Danish Girl” — and it’s a film of few surprises, taking precisely the decorous, crowd-pleasing approach to tricky subject matter that one would expect from Hooper’s previous work — is that it’s as much Vikander’s showcase as it is Redmayne’s."

- Regardless, Redmayne has topicality on his side and most likely wont be at a disadvanatage, "transgender issues are at peak awareness right now, with names like Caitlyn Jenner and Laverne Cox bringing the conversation into the mainstream."

- the documentary was filmed 43 years ago in 1972. the director, Sydney Pollack, flubbed, didn't record the sound, and it's been ups and downs ever since
- aretha keeps blocking the film, and just blocked it from another festival viewing.
- long and complicated history regarding it's release and various litigations.
- "I understand she's used to getting paid a lot of money to do promotion for a project like this," says Elliott, who continues to have faith that eventually Franklin will see the light. "But I hope at some point she will come around. I always want to do right by Aretha."

Liam gets 4th tattoo in 2 weeks, Niall fractures ankle, Zayn working with former 1D stylist

Liam "manors" Payne showed off two tattoos at tonight one direction concert; feathers above his skull and rose tattoo and a number on his hand. Fans freaked after they initially though he had tattooed the number 25 on his hand; the date Zayn announced his leaving the band in march.




However on closer examination it is clear the number is 29, perhaps for the date of Liam's birthday which is August 29th. Maybe manors is afraid he'll forget without the reminder?


In same concert Niall Horan revealed he fractured his ankle...without knowing how.


Fans speculated that it happened playing table-tennis with bandmate Harry Styles, as stylist Lou Teasdale posted proof of Harry willingly interacting with a bandmate on her snapchat (hash-tagged narry).

Further evidence of Harry going inzayne was his long rant on poutine during the concert.



Meanwhile zaitor Zayn Malik updated his new Instagram, posting 3 b&w photos in quick succession, giving photo credits to (former?) 1D stylist Caroline Watson. It was speculated that she had continued working with Zayn following his departure from the band, given they were especially close, with Zayn being godfather to her daughter and Caroline styling Zayn for Paris fashion week.
