Look At The Wacky White Lady Pretending To Be Japanese!

$

So, the new trailer for The Lone Ranger arrived yesterday sparking a good amount of discussion around these parts around the issue of racial stereotyping, particularly where the character of Tonto is concerned. Well, here's a little something to take your mind off of that particular film because upcoming Dutch comedy Ushi Must Marry is here to demonstrate that while they may not be able to rival Hollywood budgets there are other areas where they've got the big studios beat, no problem.

Yep, this is a movie that seemingly exists solely so that audiences can laugh at Wendy Van Dijk donning a wig and riffing on and most flagrant Japanese stereotypes possible as the titular Ushi Hirosaki. It's a part Van Dijk created for a series of stunts on Dutch television in which she posed as a TV Tokyo reporter to goon visiting celebrities - raising the obvious question of why pretending to be a Japanese person acting like an idiot is funnier than being a Dutch person acting like an idiot - but there's not even the pretense that the joke is on the celebrities in this feature outing. This is pure, "Hey, look! Japanese people are wacky!" as played out by someone very definitely not Japanese.

Could there be more to it? Could there be some Borat level social satire here? Maybe, but I don't see it. And, speaking as someone who has actually been to Kazakhstan post-Borat let's just say the joke isn't considered very funny there.

Author of Dirty Girls Social Club Freed From Big Bad Feminism By Her “Sexy Cowboy”

FeministCowboy

There's no story recycled by mainstream rom-coms and commercial literature more frequently than that of the uppity, cerebral woman being put in her place (and happily!) by a dude who can't spell. Case in point: The Ugly Truth was on about three times in a row last night! Thank you, but I would rather drink battery acid.

You might remember Alisa Valdes as the author of the bestselling novel The Dirty Girls Social Club, which was bastardized into an offensive-sounding TV pilot by George Lopez's soon-to-be-ex-wife Ann. Valdes protested the sexist, racist changes made for the sake of network appeal, and was hit with a cease-and-desist letter. (The option was eventually dropped.) Valdes was once blurbed by Gloria Steinem and self-described as a hardcore feminist: "I was one of the demanding ones, combating injustice and inequality on the front lines." She was raised by progressive feminist parents, and at twenty-two, Ms. Magazine recognized her as one of the top feminist scribes under 30.

Now Valdes comes back, dishearteningly, with her first memoir, entitled The Feminist and the Cowboy: An Unlikely Love Story. (The original title was—gah—Learning to Submit.) In case you haven't guessed, it is "an engrossing memoir about how falling in love with a sexy cowboy turned her feminist beliefs upside down." Putting the "gross" in "engrossing." How's that for a blurb?

The memoir follows single mom Valdes' adventure on a dating site as she attempts to find a guy who "belonged to a food co-op yet understood snark and appreciated sushi... a man with a flurry of liberal bumper stickers on his Subaru."

Instead, predictably, she finds "a never-been-married 52-year-old conservative actor-rancher named Steve Lane, who collects guns, buys only American cars and watches Fox News." Our man Steve was able to talk Valdes out of all that crazy feminist jibberjabber, and—with the newfound, giddy feather-lightness that comes from completely giving up any of your personal values because your boyfriend doesn't agree with you, and therefore you have no responsibility to anything but him anymore, ever!—she found that:

"when men… act like men rather than like emasculated boys, you as a woman will find not only great pleasure in submitting to them but also great growth as a person."

And if you like that, the newly reformed Valdes has some rules for wrassling and branding your own man/steer that sound simply charming:

* When talking to a man, don't digress. "Keep it clear and direct . . . their brain processes language differently than ours do."

* Never expect anything; instead win him over "by giving and giving and giving until it hurt."

* If an alpha male cheats, let him. "I would share him if I had to."

* Spiffy up: "Men want women to look like women, in dresses and skirts."

The Postspeculates that Valdes' hook-y memoir is a simple attempt to save herself from bankruptcy. Look, as long as she's giving up feminism, how about he gets rid of one of his fucking guns? Just saying.

WHO IS THE NEXT IRON CHEF?

(CHEF ALEX GUARNESCHELLI)

Having beaten out seven other high-end chefs for the honor, Alex Guarnaschelli was chosen as the winner of "The Next Iron Chef: Redemption." The chef managed to beat Amanda Freitag and Nate Appleman to take the title in the season 5 finals

So how did she win?

Chairman's Challenge

The chefs had to create a "Last Supper" menu incorporating one of the following ingredients:
  • Farm Chicken (Chef Freitag)
  • Haddock (Chef Appleman)
  • Sea Urchin (Chef Guarnaschelli)

Nate Appleman presented poached haddock and clam chowder. The judges called parts of his dish "absolutely perfect" and said that his haddock changed their mind about it being boring.

Amanda Freitag gave the judges a lusty lemon-roasted chicken. "Wow wow wow wow wow..." was only part of the praise she got for the dish. It was called "one of the best dishes of the competition."

Alex Guarnaschelli presented sea urchin custard with corn, brussel sprouts and sun-chokes. There was foam on it

Chef Freitag was the first told she was making the finale. Despite some criticism about acidity, Chef Guarnaschelli followed to Kitchen Stadium. Chef Appleman was sent home.

Kitchen Stadium

The final challenge's ingredients for "Respect" include Southwestern ingredients, Mediterranean ingredients and the ingredients in standard Japanese cooking. Two ingredients from each area were needed for the three dishes.

Alex Guarnaschelli started with scallops with hen-of-the-wood mushrooms.

She followed with lamb loin with fennel, olives and eggplant.

The final dish was a cherry tart with pasilla and lime.
Amanda Freitag's first dish was feta burratta caprese.

Her second dish was lamb loin with charred eggplant yogurt and chermoula.

For the third dish, Freitag served a brown sugar corncake with miso honey ice cream, blueberry ginger compote.

Best quote in response to food: "If baba ganoush wore Chanel, this is what it would be like."
Thanks in large part to timid seasoning in her first dish, Amanda Freitag fell short and Alex Guarnaschelli was declared the winner of the competition. It seemed to be a close match when the judges discussed the merits. Chef Guarnaschelli just came out slightly ahead in the end.

And Alex Guarnaschelli is the chef who got full redemption and won "The Next Iron Chef" season 5.

Robert Pattinson Wears Kristen Stewart’s Clothes?

Rob is being accused of raiding Kristen’s closet after he was spotted wearing a floral-lined jacket at JFK airport on Dec. 22. What do YOU think?
Robert Pattinson was spotted arriving at JFK airport in New York City on Dec. 22, after spending a week in the Big Apple, where he was shooting a commercial for his new men’s Dior fragrance. Kristen Stewart did not accompany Rob on the trip, but it appears as though Rob still had a part of Kristen with him — in the form of her clothes!

Kristen, 22, has been known to wear items of Rob’s clothing in order to enhance her grungy style, but Rob wearing K-Stew’s clothes doesn’t seem as sexy.

On Dec. 22, the Twilight hunk was wearing a rather feminine black jacket, which looked a bit too small for him and had a bright floral lining. Could it be Kristen’s?

Fans on Twitter are claiming that the jacket is from Japan and Rob has not been there lately, but Kristen has! They’re suggesting the jacket was a gift from Kristen.

“Apparently the Adidas jacket that Rob wore at JFK is only available in Japan and Rob hasn’t been there recently…but guess what? Kristen has,” @RobertsCaramel said.

Either way, the jacket seems to have once belonged to Kristen, and that fact that Rob is wearing it shows just how much he loves her!

Rob has been keeping his head covered lately as he allegedly cut off his locks of hair.

Have a Honey Boo Boo Christmas!

Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson may be one of Barbara Walters‘ 10 Most Fascinating People of 2012, but at home in Georgia she’s just a regular kid — and can’t stop talking about Christmas this time of year! Honey Boo Boo and her Mama June Shannon reflected on Christmases past, including the best and worst gifts they’ve ever gotten.

Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson is enjoying counting down the days till Christmas with the help of her brand-new Elf on the Shelf!

Just in case you’re not familiar with this popular holiday tradition, the Elf on the Shelf is a “scout elf” that sits in families’ homes and reports back to Santa every night to let him know whether the kids in his charge have been naughty or nice. Part of the game is to move the elf’s location and let the children find him the next day. (Depending on the family’s sense of humor, the elf can end up in some pretty interesting places.)

Honey Boo Boo received hers as a gift from a fan in Oklahoma named Emilee Martin. She and mom Josey made a contribution to the Thompson/Shannon family’s Christmas toy drive and included the Elf for Alana to keep “for working so hard and for doing such a great deed,” Josey explains on Alana’s official Facebook page.

Since then, Alana’s Christmas companion – whom she named Elvis Sweetie – has been making spirits bright for Honey Boo Boo, Mama June and the rest of the family. She’s also been causing a bit of mischief around the house, which June has been capturing on film and sharing with fans.

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo returns to TLC on Jan. 6 for their new holiday special episodes: Jan. 6 airs the Halloween special, the Thanksgiving special is on Jan. 13 and the Christmas special is on Feb. 17.

Oh Miley! Now Cyrus tweets a bizarre picture of herself with a sex doll in her passenger seat

article-0-16A3E963000005DC-205_634x567

She celebrated her 20th birthday with a lap dance from a stripper.
And it seems Miley Cyrus has no regrets - marking Christmas by posting a picture of herself with a sex doll in her car.
The doll, which she apparently received as a humorous gift, was seen sitting in the front sear of her vehicle while Miley gave a thumbs up beside it.
'Does this count for the carpool lane? Such a nice Xmas gift,' she wrote.
The doll comes after wannabe bad girl Miley was seen grabbing hold of the stripper's bottom in a photo from her birthday celebrations, during which she also received a lap dance.
The stripper is wearing just a silver bra, pink thong and black stiletto ankle boots.
Meanwhile Miley' look is getting more punky and grown up by the day - and Saturday was no exception.
The actress and singer was spotted stopping off for coffee with fiance Liam Hemsworth and looked every inch the young rock chick.

article-0-16A1D8C3000005DC-958_634x820

Dressed in loose animal print jeans and a snug black jumper, with her shaved and quiffed platinum hair she certainly stood out from the crowd.
On her feet she wore simple ballet flats and the 20-year-old also toted a back and gold designer bag - which matched her belt.
Miley's sunglasses would have also made her stand out.
Large, slightly Fifties-inspired they looked to be vintage inspired and definitely made a statement.

Members of ONE DIRECTION have raised nearly $2,000 for an Alzheimer's charity in support of LOUIS TOMLINSON's girlfriend as her grandfather battles dementia.

The boyband stars donated a signed T-shirt to an eBay.com auction to raise money for British organization the Alzheimer's Society, a care and research charity for those suffering the degenerative condition as well as other forms of dementia.

The singers threw their support behind the organization after Tomlinson's girlfriend, Eleanor Calder, discovered her grandfather has been diagnosed with dementia.

Calder says, "I'm so pleased the boys have decided to support Alzheimer's Society in this way. My grandfather has dementia and my family and I have had first hand experience of how the condition affects every aspect of a person's life."

Jenny Hughes, chief executive of the Alzheimer's Society, adds, "The boys' support will help us reach new audiences and raise awareness of dementia amongst younger people. Everyone has a role to play in improving the lives of people with dementia."

The T-shirt sold for $1,952 on Thursday (20Dec12).

Tom Hiddleston was interested in Directing Thor 2

It's not uncommon for actors to make the transition into directing, often with great success (Ben Affleck (Argo) and Kenneth Branagh (Thor) for example). Talking t Empire Magazine ecently, Tom Hiddleston was asked whether or not he would have any interest in directing a film at some point in the near future "Yes, I do. I did ask, half-jokingly, Kevin Feige about directing Thor 2 and he said, 'Do you have something to show me?' I said no. He said, 'If you made something and showed me, I might consider it.' But it's better for the world that he said no. It would be such a responsibility, but I think I'd enjoy it." arvel Studios are known for making some unusual choices when it comes to their directors, so it certainly wouldn't be too shocking if they were to give Hiddleston a shot at helming one of their comic book adaptations. If his skills behind the camera are as impressive as those in front, it's hard to not want to see this become a reality!

Christmas has come a few days early for Zoë Saldana.

The actress has received a gift in the form of a little white rescue pup that she adopted just days before the holiday.

"Meet Mugsy!!! Rescued her last week – my best friend named her – ha! She's adorable and super smart," Saldana Tweeted Thursday, with a photo of the wiry-haired pooch sitting in the passenger's seat of a car.

Perhaps spending timing with her boyfriend Bradley Cooper's dog Charlotte is what persuaded the The Words star to adopt a furry friend of her own. Saldana spent Thanksgiving walking outdoors with the white chow/retriever mix, who is definitely one of the leading ladies in Cooper's life.

"She has to like my dogs," The Hangover star told PEOPLE in 2009 of what he looks for in a potential girlfriend. "My dogs and I come in a package."

Here's hoping Charlotte and Mugsy have already hit it off!

The first photo of Sharlto Copley as the villain Kruger in Elysium has come online, thanks to Empire. Copley re-teamed with District 9 filmmaker Neill Blomkamp for the August 9, 2013 thriller, also starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Wagner Moura, Alice Braga and Diego Luna. The film is described as follows:

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Adorable: The Pope Thinks He’s Beating Justin Bieber at Twitter

$

Popey-Pope

In a sign that maybe the Vatican doesn’t really understand this newfangled Twitter thing, they’ve announced that the Pope is beating Justin Bieber in the only category that counts: Retweets. If you’re wondering how that statement can be true, don’t bother, because it isn’t. Don’t worry, Pope, we’re sure you’re still beating Bieber in most giant hats. Probably.

The claim came from the Vatican’s newspaper, which said that the Pope has bested Bieber in percentage of followers that retweeted the pontiff’s first tweet versus the percentage of Bieber’s followers who retweeted one of his most popular tweets about a six-year-old fan losing her life to cancer. The Vatican says about half of the Pope’s 2.1 million followers retweeted the pontiff’s first message, but less than one percent of Bieber 31.7 million followers retweeted his tweet.

The retweet percentage statistic doesn’t mean anything. I just created two Twitter accounts that only follow each other, and retweeted a message by each from the other account. Those two accounts now have a 100% retweet percentage of every tweet they’ve ever posted. I’m beating the Pope and Justin Bieber combined. See how meaningless retweet percentage is?

Besides, the Pope’s 2.1 million followers are spread across the eight different accounts he uses for different languages, and so were the retweets. That seems like cheating considering Bieber has 31.7 million followers on one account. Also, if you’re trying to pick a fight over one of Bieber’s tweets, maybe don’t pick the one where he was honoring a six-year-old girl who died of cancer. I think that counts as cyberbullying.

While we’re talking about numbers that don’t matter, Pope, Bieber’s Klout score is 92 to your 82.

David Tennant and Billie Piper panel at Midnight Convention

$

David Tennant attended the Midnight Fan Convention at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham on Sunday 16th December.
Billie Piper also attended that day and she and David did a photo shoot (both separately and together) and signed autographs, plus attended a guest talk together and the closing ceremony (at 6.30pm).

Below is a detailed report of the questions asked at the panel gathered together from various fans on the internet and from someone who helps update DavidTennantOnTwitter.com who attended the panel in person.

The panel started a few minutes late but it lasted over the hour which was allocated.

The first question was about a Doctor Who movie. Both David Tennant and Billie Piper said that they did not know anything about a movie and both felt that if there was one, they and their characters would not be involved.

David Tennant jokingly suggested that Billie could be cast as Rose's mum in a Doctor Who movie!

When asked about acting both David and Billie suggested that you should only do acting if there is nothing else you can do as there are too many people going for the same few roles. They also suggest that you should enjoy yourself if you do act.

When asked what Rose and The Doctor 10.5 are doing in the alternative universe, they jokingly suggested working, just kicking back or doing organic farming. They also joked that those two characters would be returning for the Doctor Who 50th anniversary!

In regards to the episode Journey’s End, David said that he loved Rose’s departure and maintained that 10.5 wasn’t a fake Doctor (he joked that he just didn’t wear a tie). David said that he thought Rose went for that version as she wouldn’t have been able to keep the real Doctor.

They were then asked about a classic Doctor Who monster they would like to battle. As Billie’s knowledge of the series was lacking, David suggested the Zygons.

There next followed two smutty questions about shagging and ‘if Rose was a whore’ which they did not answer but David jokingly asked if John Barrowman had written those questions!

If The Doctor and Rose had twins David joked that they would be called Gallifrey and Debenhams!

The paint used in Much Ado About Nothing was children’s face paint.

David Tennant said that, even though the fame can be quite overwhelming, he has never regretted agreeing to take the role in Doctor Who. He said that the pros outweigh the cons but that there are things which can be overwhelming. However it is 95% positive.

David says that he could not discuss any stage plans but he is always looking and he hopes to return to the stage ‘soonish’.

David was out of the country until yesterday and only found out yesterday that he will be playing the Virgin Mary in the nativity play for Absolute Radio.

In a nativity play when he was a child, David played the inn keeper and a non-speaking Joseph. (He joked Mary wouldn't shut up)

Billie and David have talked about working together in other roles and hope that they could work together again. This was followed by a hug and huge cheers from the audience.

They were then asked about the final farewell scene in The End Of Time which they both said they loved although Billie found going back into the character of Rose difficult as she was filming Secret Diary Of A Call Girl too and it felt very rushed. However they were both glad to have done it and were thrilled with the costumes.

David thought it was very important that all of the ex-companions were involved in his last episode and he was very moved that everyone was able to be a part of it.

Billie Piper wished she had been able to work with Catherine Tate more and David said that he would love to work with both Billie Piper and Catherine Tate again.

About the Midnight convention they said that it was odd for them to see people dress as their characters but they both find very touching.

David said that his guilty pleasures are coffee (but not instant coffee), strong black drip coffee and Cadbury Boost, plus Costa tiffin.

A fan thanked both David and Billie for making their Christmas special and everybody cheered!

David Tennant said that he can not say if he would return to Doctor Who as it would depend on the circumstances. And on him being asked!

Billie thinks she is finished with Doctor Who. Both say that they would not want to step on other people’s toes.

David was thrilled about features in the new Doctor Who which has nods to past Doctor Who.

One of David Tennant’s favourite moments on Doctor Who was when Rose’s face had disappeared and David had to act with the green spots with both David and Billie trying not to laugh.

They also said that the Werewolf pre-CGI actor’s outfit exposed him quite a lot and that everyone including the Director kept looking! This included David!

When asked about their favourite people to work with on Doctor Who, Billie said Camille Coduri and Shaun Dingwall who played her parents. David Tennant joked nobody and then mentioned Russell T Davies, Julie Gardner and Catherine Tate. David said that he became close to a number of people on Doctor Who who became great friends of his. (David was also referring to Georgia, his wife, although not by name but when the crowd went "aawww" he said "Moving on!")

David Tennant also remembered fondly the special times he had working with Elisabeth Sladen "She was just heaven and she could run!" He also said that she was part of his childhood and that she was as lovely, vulnerable, vibrant and gorgeous as he had expected.

David and Billie bonded immediately on set and got into a great grove which David thought was a huge relief as it meant that time turned out to be so much fun.

Billie Piper says that she misses David Tennant, Wales and the crew about leaving Doctor Who. David said that there was nothing like working on Doctor Who and that he misses his friends there, plus the scripts.

When asked about how to do accents well, David says that he thinks it is really hard. Billie said that he has a great English accent for a Scot, although David said the Rs are difficult. David Tennant also revealed that he can't pronounce the word Peugot properly as he says ‘Pergeout’.

The worst moment on Doctor Who for Billie Piper was the freezing cold night shoot for Rise Of The Cybermen dressed in a waitress outfit. David Tennant also remembered being very cold filming Fear Her.

The scariest stuff for David and Billie were the more sinister characters such as Davros, The Host in Tooth and Claw and the Beast in The Satan Pit (which David described as very unsettling), plus David mentioned the monster in Midnight(Yes OMG) and the Weeping Angels.

Billie Piper and David Tennant then jokingly argued about their Top Gear laps and see-through tops, plus the car problems David experienced! David said that he refuses to admit that he was beaten by a girl but that he is not bitter!

Talking about John Barrowman David Tennant said that John never disappoints and he has never known him to be in a bad mood but also never or to be appropriate or to have filters!

Somebody asked David about the perfect plot for a 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who so David started by saying that it should open on William Hartnell and then said that the question was too difficult to answer! He suggested that the questioner answered it and that maybe Billie could return as a Zygon!

Asked about which tips Billie and David would give to a young actor they replied that they should get an agent, go to drama school but mainly do it because they really want to do it and follow their dream.

The final person to ask a question thanked wished them both a brilliant Christmas and asked David to say Allons-y which he did!

David and Billie then thanked everyone from coming from all around the world to the convention.

Disney World's New Fantasyland: The Princesses Open Their Own Castles

Poor Cinderella may not have a stocking to hang by the chimney with care, but she does have that choice bit of Florida real estate: her own castle smack in the middle of Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.

This season, she isn't the only Disney princess with a stronghold to call home. Ariel from The Little Mermaid and Belle from Beauty and the Beast now boast their own splashy attractions in the recently launched New Fantasyland, which more than doubles the original 10 acres of the most popular section of the most popular park in the world's most popular resort. (Yes, expect crowds.)

"To all those who are young, and young at heart," Once Upon a Time star Ginnifer Goodwin – joined by Jordin Sparks, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Thomas Staggs and Mickey Mouse – said at the Dec. 6 dedication ceremony. The actress also said, "The castles here are far more beautiful than they are on Once Upon a Time" – with no trolls or giants to worry about.

As for the New Fantasyland landscape, which includes an Enchanted Forest, Ariel oversees a sea grotto, where her Under the Sea – Adventure of the Little Mermaid and meet-and-greet photo-taking perch can be found. For the musical adventure, guests board giant clamshells to relive the 1991 feature, with the characters brought to life through both animation and Audio-Animatronics.

Belle's tale is represented by the French-inspired Be My Guest restaurant inside the richly detailed castle of the Beast, replete with gently falling snow outside the ornate ballroom. There's also the ominous west wing (where the Beast's portrait morphs into one of the handsome prince). Less elaborate meals may be taken at the nearby Gaston's Tavern, in the village square.

Inside Belle's cottage, there's Enchanted Tales with Belle, an immersive story-telling experience all but stolen by the highly advanced Audio-Animatronic figure of Lumière, the loquacious candlestick holder.

Cinderella really doesn't go wanting, either. At night, her castle turns into the backdrop for a spectacular holiday lightshow that even manages to convert one of its turrets into an accelerating rocket.

More royal action still lies ahead in the New Year, with the Princess Fairytale Hall, where Tiana from The Princess and the Frog and Rapunzel from Tangled will be able to meet and greet their subjects. Meanwhile, currently to the west of Ariel is the brand new Storybook Circus area, home to Dumbo, which also has doubled in size with two teams of flying elephants. As it is, the waiting queues have been abandoned in favor of one large, circus-tented play area for kids.

The heart of New Fantasyland remains a construction site for the upcoming (for 2014) the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Staggs describes it as a "family friendly" roller coaster, less intense than Thunder Mountain and featuring patented Disney technology that will allow the rider to swing in the cars, as if on a real mine train. Inside its tunnels, the train will slow so guests can observe Snow White's pals in humorous action.

Until then, those with an immediate need for speed may monorail it over to Epcot, for the newly refurbished Test Track. Here, drivers design their own Chevrolets before zooming through a Tron-like raceway at a white-knuckle speed of up to 65 m.p.h. Try getting Santa's sleigh to do that.

Anne Hathaway: Seeing Myself in Les Miserables Makes Me Cry

It's her movie, and she'll cry if she wants to.

Les Miserables isn't even out yet, but Oscar buzz is already building for the film's stars -- most notably, Anne Hathaway, who plays Fantine, an ill-fated prostitute dying of tuberculosis. But critics aren't the only ones moved by the actress' heartbreaking performance.

Hathaway herself has admitted to breaking down in tears when she sees herself in the epic musical drama, which also stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Amanda Seyfried.

"I cry, but I think it's because I'm still connected to the experience of making it, the process," she told MTV News. "For me, when I see it, I actually have to be aware when I'm doing press, because it brings me a lot closer to Fantine. She's so broken that I actually have to protect myself a little bit. So when I saw it, I did cry, but not because of what I was doing [on screen]. It was because I was back in the process of making it."

That process involved a drastic make-under for the 29-year-old Golden Globe nominee. Hathaway famously lost 10 pounds from her already-slim frame before shooting began -- and then dropped another 15 pounds during a two-week break from filming by just not eating "for a total of 13 days." (The brunette also got a much-discussed pixie cut.)

"I was in such a state of deprivation -- physical and emotional," she recently told Vogue of the movie-making experience. "When I got home, I couldn't react to the chaos of the world without being overwhelmed. It took me weeks till I felt like myself again."
