Shipping is a time-honored tradition when it comes to the couples that populate our televisions. Here are our favorite twosomes that we rooted for in 2012.

Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev), The Vampire Diaries
In the epic ongoing battle of which Salvatore brother is worthy of Elena Gilbert, the scales seemed to finally be even after Elena became a vampire and Damon accepted her darker tendencies while boyfriend Stefan (Paul Wesley) wanted to “fix her.” After breaking up with Stefan, Elena had sex with Damon in the Nov. 29 episode — but wait! Stefan thinks Elena has a rare sire bond to Damon, whose blood made her a vampire, and that’s why her feelings for him intensified — out of obligation, not love. And so the triangle continues…

Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel), New Girl
This season, Nick and Jess finally acknowledged their mutual attraction. And creator Liz Meriwether has promised that they will “f—” but not marry, which we are OK with — as long as Jess uses that lingerie from season 1 and we finally get to see them makeout.

Sherlock (Johnny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu), Elementary
In this modern incarnation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic series, Sherlock Holmes is a recovering addict who helps the NYPD solve crimes and Joan Watson is his sober companion. Although we’ve been told that they will never hook up — what’s the fun in having a female Watson if she doesn’t hit the sheets with the irritable detective at least once? And besides, Liu and Miller are smoking hot together.

Rayna (Connie Britton) and Deacon (Charles Esten), Nashville
Nashville’s reigning country queen has a past with her bandleader Deacon, but a present with her husband Teddy. But the smoldering looks between Rayna and Deacon tell us their story isn’t quite over. Even if he’s being chased by country princess Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere), and even if she did send him to rehab, then marry someone else while he was trying to get sober.

Auggie (Christopher Gorham) and Annie (Piper Perabo), Covert Affairs
Like Bones’ Booth and Brennan and Castle’s Castle and Beckett before them, these colleagues would have to be blind not to see they have feelings for one another. Of course, Auggie is blind, which is why we’ve never grown impatient. But luckily, he did! In the final moments of the November season 3 finale, Auggie showed up at Annie’s place to finally have “the talk” he’d been waiting for — and, as it turns out, very few words were needed.

Oscarwatch 2013: 10 Things That Are Already Crystal Clear About the Oscar Race

$
0
0

It's about this time of year, as the critics start announcing their awards fast and furiously (or in the case of yesterday's New York Film Critics Circle Awards -- which took more than 4 hours to announce -- very, very slowly), that the Oscar race morphs from more questions to more answers.

Everything has now screened and reaction is generally clear (though Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" is still something of a final question mark as it has only been a few days since it first screened and reaction has been rather muted thanks to an embargo). Next week's Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Critics Choice nominations will surely offer a few pushes and pulls of buzz for various possible nominees, but there are definitely a handful of things that are very evident at this point -- enough that I'm willing to offer 10 hard statements about the Oscar nominations and/or winners. Even though I'm just as willing to bet only 8 of them will end up becoming true...
.

.
1. Anne Hathaway is winning best supporting actress. Hathaway is officially this year's Javier Bardem/Jennifer Hudson/Christian Bale/Mo'Nique/etc. The one that just can't lose (though tell that to 1996's version of this, Lauren Bacall). With a wide-open supporting actress race that features clear nominees that just didn't seem like possible winners (could they really give Hathaway's closest competition, Sally Field, a third Oscar after making Meryl Streep sit through a million nominations to get hers?), most people were calling Hathaway before "Les Miserables" even screened. And when it did, there was near-unanimous confirmation. Even those who didn't like the film couldn't help but be impressed by the tour-de-force long-take performance that is Hathaway belting out "I Dreamed a Dream." Like Jennifer Hudson before her, Hathaway is a lock to win because of one song.

2. "Argo,""Les Miserables,""Lincoln,""Silver Linings Playbook" and "Zero Dark Thirty" are all getting nominated for best picture. If there were still only five nominees, it would be likely these would be the five. And now that there are 5-10, it seems all but certain. But what films join them is still a fun mystery ("Life of Pi" is definitely next in line, but after that it's much more unclear... "Amour"? "Beasts of the Southern Wild"?).

3. "Les Miserables" and "Lincoln" are heading for double-digit nomination counts. With multiple performances likely to get nominations in addition to strong candidates across the artistic and technical categories, it would be a big disappointment if 19th century-set "Les Mis" and "Lincoln" -- arguably the frontrunners for best picture, though "Zero Dark Thirty" is hot on their trails -- don't end up with 10 or more Oscar nominations each.

4. Five of these 15 films are getting nominated for best documentary. A cheat prediction since it's already official, this is the one thing you can count on 100% here. Yesterday, the Academy set the 15-film shortlist for the best documentary feature category. Though the ever-controversial list left off "The Queen of Versailles,""The Central Park Five,""Samsara" and "West of Memphis," the fifteen films that were included are pretty much all worthy titles (the list probably drew less collective outrage than any of its predecessors), and truly any of them could make the cut in what is one of the most challenging categories to predict.

5. Kathryn Bigelow will become the first woman to receive two best director nominations. Reviews have been absolutely glowing for Kathryn Bigelow's dense, tense follow-up to her Oscar-winning "The Hurt Locker" (personally, it's a very likely bet for my #1 film of the year), and its one-two punch of best picture and best director wins from the New York Film Critics Circle pretty much confirmed it as a formidable opponent in this year's race. Bigelow will definitely be going up for Oscar #2, and it's not out of the question that she wins again.

6. Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence will battle it out for best actress. For a bit there, it seemed like Jennifer Lawrence was as sure a bet for the best actress trophy as Anne Hathaway is for best supporting actress now. But along came Jessica Chastain. Up until mid-November, people weren't even sure if she had a lead or supporting role in "Zero Dark Thirty." As soon as the film started screening, the former was confirmed and Chastain wasn't just touted as a possible nominee, but also a possible winner. Lawrence retains the same status, but it's difficult to see anyone else winning. Unless they split the vote to the advantage of... Emmanuelle Riva (how great would that be?).

7. A Disney film is winning best animated feature. Unlike many years in the past, a Disney/Pixar film has not locked this year's animated feature Oscar. There's a definite race, but it's essentially between one Disney/Pixar movie ("Brave") and two other Disney films ("Frankenweenie" and "Wreck-It-Ralph"). Perhaps one of those G-KIDS movies can come from behind and shock, but it's a very good certainty that Disney is taking home Oscar again this year... we just don't know for which film.

8. The winner of best director will have already won before. I suppose Ben Affleck winning best director for "Argo" is a tiny possibilty, but it's extremely likely the race will boil down to Steven Spielberg, Tom Hooper and Kathryn Bigelow. Spielberg has two Oscars already (for "Schindler's List" and "Saving Private Ryan"), but hasn't won since 1999. Hooper and Bigelow, meanwhile, represent two of the last three winners in the category. Too soon for a repeat? Or is Spielberg headed for a threepeat?

9. Robert DeNiro, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Tommy Lee Jones will be nominated for best supporting actor Oscars. But can any of them win? The best supporting actor race is probably the most crowded and impressive of all the Oscar races, with a good 10 or 12 actors still in genuine contention (whereas all the other acting races have basically been narrowed to 6 or 7). DeNiro, Hoffman and Jones are the certainties, but they don't quite feel like winners. Can Leonardo DiCaprio or Samuel L. Jackson swoop in with "Django?" Is Matthew McConaughey gonna ride that NYFCC win to unexpected frontrunner status? Who knows. Which is what makes this category the most fun to keep your eye on.

10. Daniel Day-Lewis will win a third Oscar for "Lincoln." By comparison, the best actor race seems pretty much set in stone. Five of these six men will fill the slots: Day-Lewis, Denzel Washington, Joaquin Phoenix, John Hawkes, Bradley Cooper and Hugh Jackman. And while this is the least confident "statement" of these ten, I'm betting that Day-Lewis will take home his third best actor Oscar, making him the first person ever to do so (Jack Nicholson has three Oscars, but one was for a supporting role).

So... what do you think?

Report from the Front: NYFCC Garlands “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Lincoln”
by J. Hoberman

In one of the lengthiest sessions I’ve sat through since joining the New York Film Critics Circle in 1981, the group took over five hours to decide upon its 12 annual awards, with Kathryn Bigelow’s “Zero Dark Thirty” and Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” — serious pictures, both filled with topical resonance — emerging as the two big winners.

Several perennial contenders, notably Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master,” but also Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” and David O. Russell’s “The Silver Lining Playbook,” were effectively shut out. The meeting, chaired by Joshua Rothkopf of Time Out New York, was amiable but consensus proved elusive. No film won on the first ballot and several took as many as four.

The sense that we were in for a long day was apparent from the onset. Benh Zeitlin’s “Beasts of the Southern Wild”, a heavy favorite for Best First Feature, fell one vote short of a first ballot victory and one voter shy of a second ballot win, ultimately defeated by a single vote on the third ballot by the documentary “How to Survive a Plague.” Ken Burns’ documentary “The Central Park Five” came from well behind in the pack to push aside the first ballot leaders, “The Gate Keepers” and “This is Not a Film,” on the fourth ballot. Tim Burton’s “Frankenweenie” needed two ballots to win Best Animated Film over Pixar’s “Brave” and the Focus Features release “ParaNorman,” in a race that saw a number of abstentions and included votes for several CGI-driven features, notably “The Hobbit” and “The Life of Pi.” Although a heavy favorite, Michael Haneke’s “Amour” still required three ballots to prevail over Leos Carax’s “Holy Motors” and Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s “Once Upon a Time in Anatolia.”

In the acting awards, Sally Field (“Lincoln”) finally defeated initial front-runner Anne Hathaway (“The Dark Knight Rises” and “Les Miserables”) for Best Supporting Actress on a fourth ballot while, in a rare second ballot win, Matthew McConaughey (“Magic Mike” and “Bernie”) beat out Christoph Waltz (“Django Unchained”) and Tommy Lee Jones (“Lincoln”). The closest and most surprising race saw Rachel Weisz (“The Deep Blue Sea”) edge Jennifer Lawrence (“The Hunger Games” and “The Silver Lining Playbook”) and Emmanuelle Riva (“Amour”). Last year’s winner Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty”) was a factor throughout, tying for the lead on several ballots. (This race was by far the most polarized; only three of the 16 ballots cast for Lawrence or Chastain cited both actresses. Weisz was clearly a consensus “second” choice.) By contrast Daniel Day Lewis (“Lincoln”), possibly the most feted actor in NYFCC history, led on every ballot but still required three rounds of voting to best the closely bunched trio of Jack Black (“Bernie”), Joaquin Phoenix (“The Master”), and Denis Lavant (“Holy Motors”).

Greig Fraser was named Best Cinematographer for “Zero Dark Thirty,” beating the initial favorite, “The Master” on the third ballot. (In a simple, up and down vote, the critics declined to acknowledge Fraser for his work on “Killing Them Softly.”) Although heavily favored, Tony Kushner’s “Lincoln” screenplay needed four ballots to win over those for “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Moonrise Kingdom.” “The Master”’s relatively poor showing in this race presaging its ultimate fate. An early favorite for Best Director, Paul Thomas Anderson was overwhelmed by Kathryn Bigelow on the second ballot, with Ben Affleck (“Argo”) finishing a distant third. (Strikingly, Steven Spielberg, who failed to get a single first ballot vote, was never in contention.) By this time, it was evident that “Zero Dark Thirty” would run the table and, indeed, “The Master” finished third for Best Picture behind “Argo,” although it took three ballots for the obviously exhausted voters to decide the winner.

For the record, my first ballot votes, several intended as provocations, were: “The Master” (Best Picture), Kathryn Bigelow (Best Director), Tony Kushner (Best Screenplay), Gina “Crush” Carrano (Best Actress, for “Haywire”), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Best Actor, for “The Master”), Sally Field (Best Supporting Actress), Andy Serkis (Best Supporting Actor, for “The Hobbit”), Greig Fraser (Best Cinematographer, for “Killing Them Softly” and “Zero Dark Thirty”), “The Hobbit” (Best Animation), “Once Upon a Time in Anatolia” (Best Foreign-language Film), “The Gate Keepers” (Best Documentary) and “Beasts of the Southern Wild” (Best First Feature). Not bad: Four of my first choices won as did a number of second choices including Rachel Weisz.

SPIN: Frank Ocean's Channel Orange is Album Of The Year

gPLYo

It's a fool's game to predict an artist's longevity off their first album, even if you think that first album is genius and was preceded by a jams-rich catalogue. But it would also be disingenuous not call it like we feel it: Frank Ocean has emerged as one of American music's greats, potentially of all time. Not simply a pop star or a sizzling phenom or a young flash on a stylist's resume, though he still blazed through his first-week Billboard charts with the ferocity of Usher and Chris Brown. Frank Ocean is too real.

Nostalgia, Ultra, 2011's debut full-length, made us a promise and we fell for the album with the passion and faith of converts, enveloping ourselves in his contemplative sweetness, the satin tenor of his voice. This year's channel ORANGE delivered on that promise, showing the extremes of his depth, and exactly how wide open he truly was. It's the album of a man who believes in his own music, flaws and all. He believes in his vision. He even put "Forrest Gump" on there! The song, a wistful ode written from the perspective of Forrest's girl Jenny in the cornball '94 film, boasts a grinning, sing-song simplicity, stretched out bald with cheesy sentiment and no self-consciousness. It's the kind of innocence you wanna ride with.

"Mango, peaches, and lime... Why see the world when you got the beach?" Emotion aside, channel ORANGE is Frank Ocean's version of Philip Roth's American Pastoral in its vivid depictions of cultural turmoil, a sociological diagnostic in the spirit of Joan Didion's White Album. (At a channel ORANGE listening session, I even suggested that he seek out the latter, after feeling the parallels between their incisive, love/hate detail for humanity and California.) In retrospect, I hope he never got that book. His voice is his own and should stay that way, unflappable except for the intermittent apparitions of his heroes — Prince, Sam Cooke, and Stevie Wonder the most obvious, although his yen for channel-flipping sonic experimentation recalls Eno and his disciples too.

channel ORANGE captures a series of moments that converge to become a full panoramic snapshot of the hell going down in nihilistic kidland. "Too many joyrides in Daddy's Jaguar," he sings on "Super Rich Kids," the track (featuring Odd Future's Earl Sweatshirt) about Los Angeles' moneyed and disenfranchised trust-fund class. "Too many white lies and white lines." It's the consequence and cause, too. Put it with the premonitory "Crack Rock," the boom-bap thrum teasing out Ocean's thoughts about that "glass dick," or "Lost," a pop song about a drug don with just a shred of conscience left. Here, his point of view falls into crooked place, via fully formed stories of wayward souls fleshed out by an old one. Yeah, he's said he's got an old soul. Of course, he says that, infusing Buddhist wise-man imagery into his videos and lyrics. But then, what else could he be, sketching out these tracks while walking in every shoe and elevating his sanguine voice to preternatural relatability. This dude's barely 25 years old, a Scorpio, obviously. He captures generations.
s3RxD

"Pyramids" is an exegesis, its psych-prog movements clocking just under ten minutes, viewed through a gelatin of bass fonk and guitar/synth bombast. It's a 3,000-year-old tale following an Egyptian Cleopatra kidnapped from the throne room who has been reincarnated as a stripper princess "working at the Pyramid tonight." It's not an indictment but an observation — maybe a philosophical look at circularity, too — and the way Ocean speaks about stripping as women's work recalls Kate Bush long before it ever does T-Pain, lord forbid. With a laser eye for the details of his characters' predicament, Ocean's natural empathy translates as spiritual texture. Perhaps it was just journalistic curiosity when the questions started about his use of pronouns — "he" as love interest as opposed to "she" — but it also inherently underestimated his talent, his ability to believably project any point of view, to use the songwriter's prerogative to sing from any perspective. Prince did it!

When Ocean revealed his love for a man just prior to channel ORANGE's release, he claimed no label, ostensibly admitting to fluidity. It's the same fluidity that turns up in everything he does, whether it's the flexibility of his music or the elasticity of his voice.
All that water imagery — and harmonies to match! The trippy gush of a drum machine and wobbly background vocals on "Sierra Leone" offers nearly full-body submersion, a Brazilian jazz-alluding sex jam that sounds like the sensuality of gradual climax and makes irresponsible raw-dogging sound like the most romantic thing ever. (Don't do that, though, dudes.)

qt3o2

Perhaps the lingering image of Frank Ocean's triumph was from his appearance on Saturday Night Live in mid-September, playing a video game while John Mayer solos wankily behind him, making orgasm faces on the closing whammys of "Pyramids." Ocean, ever so slowly, turned towards the camera to flash a ****-eating grin. He broke the fourth wall to reveal his own outsize swagger, and maybe a tiny bit of disbelief. Because what makes him remarkable beyond his talent is an accompanying pure averageness, wearing t-shirts and open button-downs and that ever-present bandanna.

For his non-glossy, non-Terius Nash'd approach to R&B, he has been compared this year to pompadoured Miguel (an evocative singer with a little ways to go) and with the Weeknd (whose drug tales are far more blunt-object than Ocean would ever conjure). As a lyricist, he is closer in spirit to R&B classicists Bilal or Jaheim, or to the old country-and-western greats, or to channel ORANGE's only guests, Earl Sweatshirt and Andre 3000 — i.e., contemporary storytellers with something singular to say.

Maybe Frank Ocean's next **** is a novel. For now, all we can say with surety is that this is only the beginning.

Since the arrival of her first child Edward Duke on August 29th with hubby Bill Rancic, reality television star Giuliana Rancic, 37, has been loving every moment with her sweet son - even the not-so-pleasant ones.

“This is so gross, but I love when he poops,” the new mom reveals to PEOPLE. “They make these noises and I’m always like, ‘Bill, here he goes. Tape this, tape this!’ And he’s like, ‘Must we tape this?’”

“It’s such a good feeling because it shows that he’s healthy and he’s regular and things are looking good,” she adds. “I love changing poopy diapers. When I open a diaper and it’s poopy, I’m like, ‘Yes, score!’”

Upon the birth of their son via gestational surrogate, the couple say they were thrilled to each play a big part in the delivery process.

“Being in the delivery room was pretty incredible,” she recalls.

“When he came out and we saw him for the first time it was just tears of joy all around,” she continues. “Bill had the very important job of cutting his umbilical cord — and banking his cord blood — and I got to hold him first to do skin to skin.”

Photobucket

As far as his name goes, the couple blended both a family name with an all-time favorite.

“Edward is Bill’s late father’s name and Eduardo is my father’s name,” Giuliana shares, adding her husband refers to their new little one as Duke. “We’ve always loved the name Duke. We thought it was a really strong name, it means leader and I have a feeling he’s going to be the leader of our family!”

As the proud parents settle into life with Duke — who inherited Giuliana’s dimples and Bill’s nose and coloring, according to the new mama — the E! host admits not everything has been what she expected.

“The one thing I never thought I’d do is when I’m doing a live interview, looking at the camera and saying, ‘Hi Duke,’ and waving to my child,” she admits.

Harry Styles and Taylor Swift might be the most talked about One Direction romance at the moment but let's not forget the original pop power couple, Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards!

Now, Zayn's mum has got us all excited with her comment that the Little Mix singer would be "the perfect daughter-in-law". Perrie and Zayn have been looking seriously loved up recently with the Little Mix star flying out to New York to support her man at 1D's Madison Square Gardens gig last night (December 3). It isn't just Zayn who's smitten with Perrie though as now his mum has revealed how much she adores the singer.

Zayn's mum Patricia is so close to Perrie that she even travelled down to London with Zayn's sisters and Perrie's mum to see Little Mix perform on The X Factor, and spoke backstage about how much she loves the singer:

"She would be a perfect daughter-in-law,' said Patricia to heat. Don't start looking at hats yet though as Zayn's mum was quick to add "I don't think we'll be seeing a proposal anytime soon, because they both want to focus on their careers."

"She's lovely though. Zayn saw her on the telly and knew he liked her - he just had to convince her.

"Our families are each other's families now."

Les Miserables receives 10 Satellite Awards nominations

Another day. Another destiny. Another accolade for Les Misérables.

Tom Hooper's big-screen adaptation of the hit stage musical continues to build critical steam, snagging 10 nominations for the International Press Academy's Satellite Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Hugh Jackman and Best Supporting Actress for Anne Hathaway.

While Les Misérables failed to get any critical respect at Monday's New York Film Critics Circle Awards, the movie quickly bounced back with today's unveiling of the Satellites.

It faces some stiff competition, however, in the Motion Picture category as it's competing against Lincoln, which took home eight nominations (including Best Director for Steven Spielberg); Silver Linings Playbook and The Master, which garnered seven nods apiece; Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Skyfall, Moonrise Kingdom, The Sessions, Life of Pi and Zero Dark Thirty.

While he's being hailed for the performance of his career as Jean Valjean, Jackman will also have his work cut out for him as he'll be facing off against Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln. Other notable Best Actor nominees include Bradley Cooper for Silver Linings, Denzel Washington for Flight, Joaquin Phoenix for The Master, John Hawkes for The Sessions and Omar Sy for The Intouchables.
Other actors vying for prizes include Les Misérables' Eddie Redmayne (and Samantha Barks), Emmanuelle Riva for Amour, Laura Linney for Hyde Park on Hudson, Jessica Chastain for Zero Dark Thirty, John Hawkes for The Sessions, Tommy Lee Jones for Lincoln and Robert De Niro for Silver Linings.

Lindsay Lohan Tax Debt: 'Not Her Fault'

Yesterday, we heard the news that the IRS had seized Lindsay Lohan's bank accounts for unpaid taxes the troubled actress still owed ($234,000 in back taxes, according to TMZ). We also learned a while back that fellow "Scary Movie 5" actor Charlie Sheen, of all people, had loaned Lohan $100,000 to help take care of her mounting debt.

Now the "Liz & Dick" star is allegedly distraught over the latest blow to her comeback that never happened. The New York Post quotes a source that said "Lindsay is freaking out" and that the actress is "doing what she always does, which is to say it's not her fault and point the finger at someone else in her team. She says she didn't know anything about it ... she's broke and it's not her fault."

For what it's worth, Lohan's managers are on track to resolve her tax debts by the end of the year. "The people hired to take care of it are taking care of and it will be resolved by the end of the year," another insider told the publication.

Kristen Stewart - Variety Awards Studio: Oscars 2013 Best Supporting Actress preview + LA Daily News

Kristen Stewart is waiting for me - and she looks pretty intense.

The 22-year-old actress is running behind schedule, and her handlers are concerned about getting her across town for an appearance on the "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" to promote "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II." Three weeks into its release, the movie remains a top the box-office chart earning more than $255 million domestically.

Still, she wants to take time to talk about her next film, "On the Road," coming out Dec. 21

In the movie, based on Jack Kerouac's enduring semi-autobiographical novel, Stewart plays Marylou, a free-spirited, sexually liberated young woman. She is one of the girlfriends/wives to the film's central character, Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund), the magnetic but self-destructive friend of narrator Sal Paradise (Sam Riley).

Dean was based on the infamous beat-generation figure Neal Cassady, Sal on Kerouac, himself, and Marylou on LuAnne Henderson, who married Cassady in 1945 at age 15.

"It's said that she was ahead of her time," says Stewart about Marylou, who is a very different character than "Twilight's" staid Bella Swan. "But it takes a particular kind of person to live a life like that. She sort of had an unlimited empathy."
The actress has been committed to playing Marylou since before the "Twilight" mania began, having spoken to director Walter Salles ("The Motorcycle Diaries") about doing the role after he had seen her in 2007's "Into the Wild."

Financing for the film took awhile. Still, Stewart hung in there, saying she "would've signed on to the movie in any capacity. I would've done craft service."

The director and cast were certainly attractions for her, but a main draw was that Kerouac's novel "kick-started something" in her when she encountered it at 14.

"I read it at a stage of life where you realize that you can choose the people who surround you," she says.

"You can fall into the habit of being comfortable. There are people that are nice to be around, but they don't challenge you. Those are not the people I wanted in my life. I want people to throw me off a little bit so I can figure out why. After I read the book, I thought I needed to find people that I feel like I needed to chase after. And I wanted it to be hard to keep up with them. So it wasn't difficult to stay committed to the movie"

For someone who lives her life under a microscope, Stewart has reasons to be wary. Paparazzi swarm her every time she ventures out in public. Earlier this year, the actress made tabloid headlines for having an affair not with current beau and "Twilight" co-star Robert Pattinson, but with married filmmaker Rupert Sanders.

In person, the actress displays a thoughtful intelligence and makes a case that Marylou and the other female characters are not just sexual objects in the movie.

"For anyone who thinks that she is just a woman who was taken from, that's just a heavily misogynistic viewpoint," says the actress."It's a really rare quality that makes you capable of living a really full, a really rich life."

Though "On the Road" was published in 1957, Stewart points out that the story is actually set in the late-1940s and written from a male perspective. "That's why you don't know where their heads are and where their hearts are," she says."So it may be difficult to understand that they have the capacity to not be broken by (men)."

Interestingly, Stewart thinks the women's movement has taken a step back over the years.

"People ask me why is the story so relevant if we progressed to this point - that times were so different, so conservative then," she says. "I'm not too sure about that. Maybe on the surface, but I don't think people change. Circumstances change. Human desires, things that you want out of life are always going to be pretty varied. But there'll always be a group of outsiders who don't feel that way. Once they find each other ... they make it OK to walk a different line and have different expectations of life."

The actress says although she was about the same age as Marylou was when she first agreed to play her, she wasn't ready then.

"This is a very irresponsible thing to do - I committed to a role before I thought I could play it," she acknowledges.

Thankfully, she says, the film took a while to get made.

"Marylou is not fearless - because that would be such a silly thing, and she's not a silly person," Stewart says.

"But she is so motivated and not crippled by fear in life. As a teenager that's a very difficult thing to achieve. That's something that a lot of people get when they're older."

At the time of this interview, Stewart was beginning final rounds of press for "Breaking Dawn Part II." Asked if she was relieved to be at the end of the five-film franchise, she said that would be an overstatement.

Still, the actress admitted that it weighed on her to be responsible for a character for so many years.

"Usually you look at the schedule and it will be like in two weeks that'll be a big day. For me it was like in three years that will be a big day. I would wonder, how's that going to go? So I'm incredibly relieved to have the story told."

She adds that the "Twilight" phenomenon is one that she is unlikely to experience again.

"It's weird to look up and notice that something you really care about has also affected so many other people. It multiplies. It's flammable, and that energy is what keeps you going," she says. "But that's a lot of energy to take in as well if you're not the most out-there person. It's overwhelming, but at the same time you can't start putting up walls. ... And the whole experience has definitely got me to a point that I don't want any walls up because I want to see out as well."

As far as what roles Stewart looks to do in the future, she has no plans.

"To find what really challenges you and really gets you off at such a young age is pretty (expletive) lucky. Most people spend years trying to find that and they never do," she says.

"I don't know what I want to do until it falls in my lap. ... I like big movies. I like small movies as long as there's an actual person to play at the center of it. I feel if I knew the stories that I wanted to tell before I saw them as an actor then I'd want to direct them, and I'm not there yet."

The Britney Spears lookalike who's made nearly half a million imitating her

Will the real Britney Spears please stand up? Check out the above clip of a professional Britney impersonator who's made a mint posing as the pop princess.

Small-town girl Michaela Weeks from the US state of Connecticut no longer has to wait tables because she makes thousands as a Britney lookalike. So far, she's made more than $460,000 just from playing Britney. Much better than tips!

"I feel very blessed to look like Britney and to be living the life I am now," the 24-year-old told The Sun.

"I bought my house when I was 19 ... I couldn’t believe how well paid just looking like someone else was."

"Being a lookalike has allowed me to spend tens of thousands on sports cars, two houses, clothes, shoes and my pedigree chihuahua, Charlie.

"It feels like fate that I was born in this body and that I look like someone famous.

"If I ever get to meet her I want to thank her for giving me this life."

Looking like a celebrity comes with its pitfalls too. The impersonator struggled financially with Britney's negative press over the years and the star's consequential down-time.

Her career picked up again when Britney joined the panel on the US X Factor.

"Since Britney was named as a judge on the US X Factor this summer, I’ve been so busy" said the performer.

Ewan McGregor has revealed that he would be happy to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi for Star Wars: Episode 7 should Disney ask him.

When asked if he would return to the Star Wars franchise during an interview with Digital Spy the Trainspotting star said: "I guess, yeah, of course. If they need me, yeah, I'd be happy [to go back]."

McGregor then went on discuss whether Obi-Wan would return alive or as a ghost as in previous films but made it clear he didn’t know anything about it, "Who knows, I know nothing about it other than what I’ve read on the internet," he said.

Ewan McGregor first appeared as Obi-Wan Kenobi in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and went on to train Anakin Skywalker, who would eventually become Darth Vader, in Episode II - Attack of the Clones. The role of Obi-Wan Kenobi has also been played by Alec Guinness who starred in the original Star Wars films.

Despite the fact that George Lucas has sold LucasFilm to Disney, McGregor said Lucas would be still be involved in the new films saying: "They’re his stories, I bet that he’ll be involved somehow." Earlier today, it was confirmed that Lucas will act as a "creative consultant" for the franchise.

Bow to the Rachet Queen on MTV's Catfish

They sure do bring the drama in the ATL! This week on "Catfish," a young single mother named Jasmine discovered that her online crush--a fellow single parent with whom she'd been in touch for two years--wasn't real, and, to add insult to injury, the mastermind behind "Mike"'s fake Facebook account was her ex-fling's girlfriend, Mhissy. When Jasmine and Mhissy came face-to-face, Mhissy admitted she'd plotted the charade to get the satisfaction of seeing Jasmine crumble. The confrontation was painful to watch, but if you ask Mhissy, Jasmine had the embarrassment coming.

After exchanging heated words, Jasmine and Mhissy separately told Nev and Max the back story of their relationship with each other. Apparently, they had met at the mall and quickly discovered they'd been seeing the same guy. According to Mhissy, though, when things heated up between her and the man in question, Josh, Jasmine wouldn't back off. When Mhissy had finally had enough of Jasmine's interference, she enlisted the likes of a fake Facebook account to distract Jasmine from Josh. Mhissy maintained she was well within her right to toy with Jasmine, and even after seeing the woman digress into a puddle of tears, declared she had no regrets.

'The Hobbit' at 48 fps induces migraines, barfing

$

Planning on lining up to see The Hobbit when it comes out later this month? Get popcorn—the bag could come in handy. Audiences who've been granted an early look at Peter Jackson's film have left feeling nauseous, headachy, and dizzy. The culprit, posits The Guardian, is Jackson's decision to test out new 48-frames-per-second technology. The brain of a typical moviegoer is accustomed to half that speed, but the 24 fps that our eyes know and love is being dumped by directors like Jackson and James Cameron in favour of the 48 fps technology because it gives their films a sharper clarity and the ability to improve the look of 3D. While both Cameron and Jackson are big proponents of these technological advances, audiences may not share their enthusiasm. At least not yet... but maybe after they've had a Gravol.

The Guardian spoke to several moviegoers who've seen the film and had some tips for future audiences:"You have to hold your stomach down and let your eyes pop at first to adjust," advised one. "This is not for wimps," he warned. "My eyes cannot take everything in, it's dizzying. Now I have a migraine," said another fan. "I left loving the movie but feeling sick," said a third. Clearly, this is not a film for those of us with wimpy eyes, stomachs, and brains—but a little tummy trouble isn't going to keep LOTR devotees out of the theatres.

Some critics, however, have not been as forgiving as fans. Here's Movieline's reviewer describing his 48 fps Hobbit experience: "It didn't take a few minutes of adjusting to get used to it; even two hours and 40 minutes later my brain was rejecting the look of it. It felt like watching daytime soaps in HD, terrible BBC broadcasts, or Faerie Tale Theater circa 1985, only in amazingly sharp clarity and with hobbits. The 48 fps had me imagining how gorgeous everything might look in 24 fps," he added. Um, burn?

Yet Jackson won't be deterred: "Ultimately, it [48fps] is different in a positive way, especially for 3D, especially for epic films and films that are trying to immerse the viewer in the experience of a story,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. But critics say that 48 fps does just the opposite. They complain that the technology makes The Hobbit look "too real" and that the veneer of fantasy that a film set in Middle Earth should have is missing because of the film's 48 fps hyper-reality.

And then there's the barfing. I don't think anyone who had planned on seeing the film will be put off by a little barfing—they just might not bring a date.

THE BRADFORD BAD BOI DOESN'T TAKE KINDLY TO PEEPS EYEING UP HIS LAYDEE, YA HEAR?

The twitter feud between The Wanted's Max George and One Direction's Zayn Malik took a new turn today - after an insider claimed that Perrie Edwards was the cause of the pair's social media war last month.

UMMM and AHHHH.

Yep, the source claims that Max has a bit of a thing for Little Mixer Perrie - a fact the Bradford Bad Boi didn't take too kindly.

"There's no love lost between The Wanted and 1D," the insider told heat magazine. "But the biggest problem seems to be with Zayn and Max.

"Zayn doesn't really like him. he thinks he can be a bit arrogant."

Apaz, the dislike stems from Maxy boy making eyes at Pezza - witht the source claiming: "Max met Perrie on The Xtra Factor last December and was pretty flirty."

Max's ex-girlfriend Michelle Keegan is said to have added fuel to the boyband-rift fire too - with reports suggesting she "joked that Max said Perrie was hot" when she met Little Mix at an event recently.

Hmmm, and here we were thinking the twitter spat was all about badger quiffs and, er, chlamydia.

What do you make of all this?

In Touch caught up with Caroline where she told us about her plan to start fresh after last season’s “dead end” drama. “I at least know how I feel and the past is where I want it to be. It’s in the past,” Caroline says of the finale.

In Touch revealed the news of Danielle’s return, but Caroline insists she’s not shaken by the troublemaker’s comeback. “Does not even faze me,” Caroline says of Danielle’s return.

“If she’s talking, I don’t know about it. I only know what I read from you guys and I’m like, ‘Ooh, interesting.’”

And as for Teresa, Caroline insists the two are civil to each other, but remain far from reconciliation.

“I don’t know if we could go back to where it was, but I’d certainly like to be able to get into, ‘How’s the kids? How’s everything?’ Civil,” Caroline admits.

So, who does Caroline think is worse: Danielle or Teresa?

“It’s a matter of perception,” she admits. “Everybody has their opinion of [Teresa]. She has a tremendous fan base and to some, I became the new Danielle.”

Is Lauri Returning To RHOOC?!

Over the weekend, RumorFix reported that Tamra Barney went for a bridal dress fitting with some of her co-stars — and our keen RumorFix readers noticed that former Real Housewives of Orange County star Lauri Peterson was in the group.

So of course, the Internet went a buzzing — Is Lauri, who was on four seasons, coming back?

A source close to the show tells our Real Mr. Housewife exclusively, “No she is not returning as a full-time Housewife.“

While it may be nice to see Lauri in a few scenes — assuming that Tamra’s bridal dress shopping was taped — it will be sad for Lauri’s fans to now know that she will NOT be back as a full-time Housewife.

Marisa: The Real Housewives Ladies “Talk Shit” Behind Each Others’ Backs!

Reality Tea interviewed the new Housewife, who admitted, "I'm petrified, honestly. I don't know what the other women say behind my back. A lot of the times these women are nice to you when you're standing there and then they talk shit about you behind your back. I'm not that person. If I talk shit about you I talk shit to you and I won't like you off camera either."

Could she be making another dig at Lisa? Marisa clarified, “And I don't 'not like' Lisa or Taylor; I just have opinions.” According to the newcomer, “There's been little things with Lisa that she did to me off camera or on camera and then I ignored it. I would not ignore it next season but I let it go this time because I was the new girl. So I did let things go with people."

There was also a bit of a learning curve. “It was completely shocking,” Marisa says, “but it was a shitload of fun.” The most shocking part? Lisa, once again. Marisa was surprised, because she thought she’d get along famously with the witty Brit. But Marisa says of Lisa, “She's very nice on camera. She's very nice and kind on camera. And she's nice to the people she likes off camera."

Above all, Marisa just wants viewers to realize what a loving wife and mother she is. “I have a housekeeper,” Marisa says. “I don't have a nanny. My husband and I do all the driving. We all travel together. We're very hands-on parents. So to me, those are the most important things."

Marisa will be introduced to the ladies and the Bravo audience in Season 3, Episode 7, which airs December 17th.

‘RHOA’ Peter Thomas Blasts Halle Berry!

You aren’t cool with what went down in Halle Berry’s driveway. Why?

“My beef is that, if it was two black men who go to work on each other like that, they would say that ‘it’s expected of us,’ ‘we’re criminals,’ ‘we belong in jail’ and ‘they should take the kid away from the woman and put her in a foster home.’ If this man, who just won a custody battle, is coming to drop off his kid in the driveway, Halle Berry had the power to shut all that down.

This is a very volatile situation that she’s put herself in once again. He’s dropping off his daughter and all Halle had to do is come out of the house, meet the baby half way just because they don’t like each other and keep it moving and that man can go about his business. But, for the fact that her man, her current boyfriend, had to have something to say and then homeboy had the beatdown of life by a boxer, he should have gone to jail.

When I looked at the pictures, that beatdown was severe. That’s a beatdown and a half, stitches, black eye. I’m surprised he didn’t knock out a couple of teeth while he was at it.”
