Chad Kroeger Laughs Off the Ban Nickelback Campaign

$

Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger has laughed off an online attempt to have his outfit banned from the UK.
And he says that if haters hadn't kept raising the quartet's profile over the years, they'd probably have split up by now.
Londoner Craig Mandell launched his bid this week, calling on fans to donate to his appeal with the aim of ensuring "that the band do not schedule any gigs here, do not attempt to come here – nor even phone here."
He set a $1000 target, which he's vowed to donate to charity – although he's only raised $270 so far.
Kroeger tells The Pulse Of Radio: "I love it. More controversy that surrounds either myself, my personal life, the band, whatever – I think it's hilarious.
"All these critics, they're just tireless. They keep ragging on the band. If they had stopped writing all this stuff about us, there would be no controversy left in the band and we probably would have died out years ago. They don't know that they're still responsible for us being around today."
He adds: "I hope the money goes to charity and not in this guy's pocket."
Nickelback will release eighth album No Fixed Address on November 3.

Taylor Swift: "I Don't Know If I'll Have Kids" + Instyle Spread

Taylor Swift flaunted her gorgeous looks for InStyle's November issue.

The blond beauty gave a killer smize on the mag's cover while rocking a pair of leather pants and embellished top, but it doesn't even come close to the multiple smoldering shots from her photo spread inside the mag. And along with getting her model on for the camera, T.Swift talked about a variety of things including marriage and whether or not she'll be a parent someday (not that she needs to worry about any of that right now).

"I don't know if I'll have kids," she tells the magazine."It's impossible not to picture certain scenarios and how you would try to convince them that they have a normal life when, inevitably, there will be strange men pointing giant cameras at them from the time they are babies."

As for tying the knot, the 24-year-old says, "I'm too young to get married. Not agewise, but I know myself, so why try to meet someone right now when I know I'm too young to do something serious?"

For now, the singer is just focused on her work and spending time with her famous girlfriends. She tells People's 40th anniversary issue, her "group of friends," which includes Lena Dunham (oh, honey, no), Lorde, Selena Gomez and Jaime King (just to name a few), "are the most important thing to me right now."

"They are so fun and know me and like me for who I actually am," she says. "It's really wonderful to have someone like Lena Dunham in my life. We have the same responsibility and the same pressure that's on you when you write every single word you end up performing."

Steve Harvey’s Creates Dating Site to Help Women ‘Become More Dateable’

$

As if the world needed another dating site, comic-turned-talk show host-turned
dating expert-turned game show host Steve Harvey is stepping into the hookup
game. Last week Harvey launched his new site, Delightful.com, which is an
offshoot of the company that owns Match.com, OkCupid and Tinder.

But Delightful isn’t just any dating site. It’s a misogynist’s dream.

In an interview with Forbes, Harvey explains the rationale behind Delightful.
“Women are wired differently,” he says.

Insert every “women are from Venus and men are from Mars” cliché.

“The one thing I know about women is, women don’t really want to just date,” he
says. “They want to date with the hope that it leads to a relationship.

“A man doesn’t have any problem at all dating several or a wide variety of
people until he finds the right one,” he continues. But women, as a rule, don’t
want to do that, and the reason is scientific: “A lot of women have that
biological clock that ticks in them.”

Harvey went on to say that women are too picky when it comes to dating, so
Delightful will help them broaden their horizons. The site will also include
advice columns for women on “how to become more dateable,” according to Forbes.

Let’s not forget, it doesn’t come free, though. Subscription prices can run you
$29.99 for one month’s access to six months billed in one payment of $107.94.

Variety: Robert Downey Jr. to Join ‘Captain America 3′ for CIVIL WAR

$
0
0

Robert Downey Jr. is on the verge of signing on to “Captain America 3,” a move that would bring the Civil War storyline from Marvel’s comicbooks to the bigscreen and trigger the start of a new phase of movies from Marvel Studios.

The actor is in final negotiations to play billionaire Tony Stark in the third installment, which is slated to begin production in the Spring for a May 6, 2016 release. Downey is already set to suit up as Iron Man for next year’s “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “The Avengers 3.”

The deal is significant for the Marvel cinematic universe considering the plot will pit Stark against Captain America’s alter-ego Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, as they feud over the Superhero Registration Act, which forces anyone with superhuman abilities to reveal their identities to the U.S. government and agree to act as a police force for the authorities.

Stark supports the program, but Rogers does not, saying it threatens civil liberties, causing sides to be taken and Rogers, among others, to go on the run to avoid arrest. The moral question and battle with his Avengers teammate essentially makes Stark a villain of sorts in “Captain America 3,” providing Downey with a meaty role he could play out into future Marvel films, including a fourth “Avengers.”

This is a George Harrison Post

IN THE CURRENT issue of MOJO, esteemed scribe Mat Snow delves deep into the weird, wired and wonderful world of George Harrison in the 1970s. With his early solo albums on Apple collected in a new box set, there’s never been a better time to explore the reluctant Beatle’s confounding catalogue.

And as an audio-visual companion, we’ve unearthed 10 clips that reveal the sweet highs and bitter lows of the Quiet One’s most contradictory decade, from his sashaying live solo debut at the Concert For Bangladesh in August 1971 and rare footage of his ill-starred 1974 US tour, to quirky wonders such as Harrison providing a guided tour of his Friar Park mansion in the Crackerbox Palace promo video and performing The Pirate Song on Python Eric Idle’s Rutland Weekend Television show.

If Not For You
Concert For Bangladesh Rehearsal

MOJO SAYS: This is just lovely, Bob Dylan and George Harrison rehearsing for The Concert For Bangladesh with the Bob song that George covered on All Things Must Pass. What’s especially nice about this is how the two versions merge, the points where Dylan appears to be doing a George impersonation (and vice versa) and those moments where the two appear to be looking at each other, marvelling that this is even happening at all.

The Pirate Song
Rutland Weekend Television Show, Christmas 1975

MOJO SAYS: According to Mat Snow’s George article in this month’s MOJO, this might even be Harrison’s most pivotal ’70s recording, the point at which George obliged his friend Eric Idle and appeared on the ex-Python’s Rutland Weekend Television show as a peg-legged and parrot-shouldered corsair, and singing his own composition, The Pirate Song. It was the first inkling of a new career working with the Pythons in film production and a possible yah-boo to Eric Clapton who, says Neil Innes, “always wanted to come on stage with a stuffed parrot on his shoulder”.

Tony Wilson interview Granada Reports, 1976

MOJO SAYS: For the release of Harrison’s seventh studio album, Thirty Three & 1/3 (Harrison’s age upon release) the Granada Reports Tony Wilson interview Granada Reports, 1976
presenter and future Factory Records boss takes George and the Stones to task for being “too old”. Harrison counters by explaining that “Sinatra’s got 50-year-old fans”. The clip also includes Harrison’s plans to “retire into a little shack, like a hermit”. The interview was preceded by a wonderful sequence in which George watches his younger self in The Beatles (“I gave that guitar away”).

Celebs Salute George Harrison at George Fest

Watch Brian Wilson, Weird Al, Conan Salute George Harrison at George Fest. Wayne Coyne, Ann Wilson, Norah Jones, Brandon Flowers, Perry Farrell and Dhani Harrison also appear to honor former Beatle

Dozens of famous musicians gathered this last weekend to honor the legacy of George Harrison at an event aptly named George Fest: A Night to Celebrate the Music of George Harrison. The event, which featured performances by the likes of Brian Wilson, Norah Jones and more, was one of many tributes to the Beatle, whose first six solo albums were recently compiled in a new box set, The Apple Years 1968-75. The highlight was former Beach Boys Wilson and Al Jardine taking on "My Sweet Lord" with help from Heart's Ann Wilson and Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne.

George Fest, which also featured performances by "Weird Al" Yankovic, Harrison's son Dhani, and members of the Killers, Spoon, Velvet Revolver and more, took place on September 28th at Los Angeles' Fonda Theatre. The show doubled as a benefit for the Jameson Neighborhood Fund, which raises money for local charities. One hundred percent of ticket sales for George Fest went to Sweet Relief, a charity that aids career musicians who are struggling to make ends meet.

In addition to the performances below, Spoon's Britt Daniel and Alex Fischel teamed up with Flaming Lips' Steven Drozd for Let It Be's "I Me Mine," Ben Harper took on "Give Me Love (Peace on Earth)" from Living in the Material World and Heart's Ann Wilson recruited Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum for the All Things Must Pass track "Beware of Darkness."

Leading up to the event, Conan O'Brien – who made an unannounced appearance at George Fest – showcased many of the performers on his talk show for what he had dubbed George Harrison week. On various nights, Norah Jones sang "Behind That Locked Door," from All Things Must Pass, Dhani performed "Let It Down" and "Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)," from the same record, Paul Simon covered "Here Comes the Sun" and Beck had fun with "Wah Wah," also from All Things Must Pass.

The box set, which Dhani oversaw, also came out last week. In addition to the six Harrison albums that Apple Records released, it included a number of previously unheard recordings. A notable one was "This Guitar (Can't Keep From Crying)," which features guest appearances by Eurythmics' Dave Stewart, Dhani, Kara DioGuardi and, on drums, Ringo Starr.

Similarly, George Fest attracted some star-studded performances. Here are some highlights

Mel C: Rihanna is too raunchy for my daughter
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Former Spice Girl forbids five-year-old daughter from watching Rihanna videos amid concerns pop has become too sexualised.

The former Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm has banned her daughter from watching Rihanna videos to protect her from the overtly sexual content.

The singer known as Mel C condemned female pop stars for flaunting their flesh and featuring explicit content in their music videos and live performances. Speaking to the Radio Times, she urged artists to “have more dignity” and said she was concerned about their influence on her daughter, Scarlett.

Artists such as Miley Cyrus and Rihanna have long caused controversy with their explicit videos and wardrobes. Mel C said pop stars should show more responsibility: “My five-year-old loves Rihanna. But she has no idea what her idol looks like because there’s little footage that I’m happy for her to see. It’s a shame that a talented, successful woman expresses herself in such an overtly sexual way.”

Mel C said the problem did not “boil down” to one female singer, and that a bigger conversation was needed about society’s obsession with celebrity and the effect it was having on children. “It’s vulgar and narcissistic and I worry about how it affects girls,” she added.

Speaking about her experience in the Spice Girls, who popularised the slogan “girl power” in the 1990s, the former Sporty Spice said the group “weren’t interested in pleasing men” and made music to empower girls and women. “There are some great artists out there, but sometimes we could just do with a bit more dignity,” she said.

Penelope Cruz Named “Sexiest Woman Alive” by Esquire

$

0

Esquire has made their annual selection for “Sexiest Woman Alive,” and it’s a somewhat surprising choice: Penelope Cruz.

The 40-year-old actress earned the honor by having “no physical flaws,” but reading the accompanying article you will learn very little else about the actress. Why? Because she basically won’t talk about anything.

Here are several direct quotes about things Cruz won’t discuss:

  • "She will not discuss the evolution of her relationship with [husband Javier] Bardem"

  • "She declines to talk about her recent motherhood"

  • "And, more surprisingly, she does not want to say too much about the movie she’s just filmed"

  • "Nor does she want to say too much about the movie she’s about to make"

  • “She has asked not to be asked about one of her rare public demonstrations of anticalculus, her controversial signing of an open group letter in the Spanish media condemning the Israeli bombing of Gaza”

  • "She has little more to say."

So…what do you learn about this seemingly fascinating actress who speaks four languages and is the embodiment of physical perfection? Not a whole lot. But the accompanying photo spread kind of speaks for itself.

What's wrong with you people?

Bill Hader, top 5 dead or alive Saturday Night Live cast member, returned to host last night. But guess what, you didn't watch, you ungrateful member of the highly important 18 to 49-year-old demographic.

Deadline reports that last night's episode tied for the show's worst ratings of all time with 18 to 49-year-olds, a record previously set only last season when Charlize Theron hosted. It scored a 3.8/9 in metered-market households and a 1.8/8 in adults 18-49 in the Local People Meters (whatever the fuck that means, it's apparently really bad).

So what, were you too busy having a life outside your home on a Saturday night to watch? Do you even realize that you missed this?

Mariah wardrobe malfunction in Chengdu concert

Single and ready to mingle! The songstress took to the stage in China where her split from Nick Cannon seemed to be the furthest thing from her mind as she put every inch of her figure on display in a dangerously short dress that left little to the imagination — in fact, her crotch was hanging out the entire time!

Mariah Carey dared to bare while performing in China on Oct. 12, where the 44-year-old rocked a sparkling, strapless corset and a teeny tiny skirt that barely covered her privates on star in Chengdu in the Sichuan Province of China. The star, who recently called it quits after six years of marriage to Nick Cannon, looked more confident than ever before as her cleavage spilled out of the top of her costume — and that’s not all! While bopping about on stage the nude crotch of her get-up was totally on display — her skirt barely covered her body!

1413199195946_Image_galleryImage_Mandatory_Credit_Photo_by

Although her skirt was barely there Mariah didn’t seem to have any issues when it came to flaunting so much of her figure. Luckily the star was properly covered and wearing the appropriate undergarments so this malfunction wasn’t as mortifying as it could have been. Phew!

Sure, her revealing get-up definitely stole the spotlight, but that wasn’t the only look she showed off. The songstress had a quick outfit change and slipped into a black strapless gown for the rest of the show. While her legs were covered up in her second number, (as was her crotch!), she did flaunt her assets, (and her cleavage).

ABCFamily finally axes Harry Potter from its 25 Days of Christmas lineup

On Monday (Oct. 13), ABC Family released its "25 Days of Christmas" TV schedule for the 2014 holiday season, and, surprisingly, it doesn't include any "Harry Potter" movies.

This year, it seems as if the network has finally come to the conclusion that, even though "Harry Potter" reigns supreme, short Christmas scenes with snow in them do not make a movie a "holiday movie."

The network also made other changes, including eliminating a number of non-Christmas related Pixar films -- yes, "Cars 2" is nowhere to be seen -- from the schedule, leaving room for more cheery classics. Of course, some head-scratchers, like "The Little Mermaid," still made it onto the lineup.

Damien Rice ends Chicago concert after six songs

$

Damien Rice cut short his concert at Chicago's Athenaeum Theatre after six songs on Monday night (October 13), saying he had been dealing with an infection and was suffering from dizziness and an inability to hear.

Performing alone on a stool with only his guitar, the celebrated singer-songwriter sounded sharp on his first two songs, the brand new track "I Don't Want to Change You" and "Older Chests" from his 2002 album O. Nothing seemed amiss until the third song, "Then Go," when Rice's ear began bothering him and he stopped the song to announce, "I'd really like to play a concert for you, but I can't hear a single thing."

He said he had been dealing with an infection for a couple days and wasn't sure if he could continue. After some encouragement from the supportive crowd, he powered through "Delicate" and "Volcano." For someone who couldn't hear, Rice sounded great, and his voice was strong, but his pained expressions indicated that he was not feeling well. During the new song "The Greatest Bastard" he said he was too dizzy to continue, then apologized and walked off.

Athenaeum Theatre staff told ticketholders to watch their email and the theatre's website over the next 48 hours for an update from Jam Productions on how the abbreviated show would be handled. Refunds and/or rescheduling are a possibility, though Rice heads to Europe starting on October 23.

There was no immediate word on whether Rice's upcoming shows, including one Tuesday in Toronto and three in New York City starting on Thursday, would be affected. The concert was part of a brief North American tour in support of Rice's first studio album in eight years, My Favourite Faded Fantasy, which hits U.S. retailers in November.

Fans have eagerly been looking forward to the return of the Irish singer, who rose to fame in 2002 with the brilliant album O, which won the Shortlist Music Prize and remains one of the finest records of this millennium. After 2006's 9, Rice retreated from the public eye, performing occasional concerts and contributing a few songs to compilations.
