Kristen Stewart stays casual while hanging out with a group of pals on Sunday afternoon (October 12) in Silver Lake, Calif.

The 24-year-old actress recently opened up about her new film Clouds Of Sils Maria and how she relates to it, being in the public eye.

“I think that my position – just the life that I’m living and my experience – sort of gave [the film] this irony,” Kristen said during a press conference (via HuffPo). “[It] just made it a bit more relevant and interesting.”

Clive Davis on new Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston releases

la-et-ms-clive-davis-aretha-franklin-divas-whi-001

Music mogul Clive Davis has a 1-2 punch of year-end releases up his sleeve. Oct. 21 brings a new studio album “Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics,” followed Nov. 10 with “Whitney Houston Live: Her Greatest Performances” on CD and DVD.

Davis will preview both projects in a question-answer session on Sunday afternoon at — where else? — the Clive Davis Theatre at the Grammy Museum.

Davis gave Pop & Hiss an early listen to Franklin’s album, which has the markings of a fourth-quarter blockbuster.

The Queen of Soul’s voice is in exceptional shape as she takes on indelible songs by Etta James (“At Last”), Barbra Streisand (“People”), Gladys Knight (“Midnight Train to Georgia”), Gloria Gaynor (“I Will Survive”) and others. It also has her take on Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” which has racked up 3.6 million hits on Vevo, YouTube and other outlets in less than two weeks.

As the mentor of numerous pop, rock and soul artists over the last half-century, Davis said he’d long been entertaining the idea of getting Franklin back in the studio again to reimagine classic songs with her unparalleled voice. (He also wasted no time noting her No. 1 placement on Rolling Stone’s recent rankings of the “100 Greatest Singers of All Time.”)

Most of the new album's songs have dramatically different arrangements than the well-known versions, perhaps the most dramatic reinvention being her swinging rendition of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” as conceived by Outkast’s Andre Benjamin.

It also was evident how close to Davis’ heart the Houston live CD-DVD project is as he hopscotched through several of the performances, which range from just after she signed to Arista in 1983 (a televised performance on “The Merv Griffin Show” when she was just 19) through a 2009 appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

“I know there’s a TV movie coming next year, but before the biopics start coming out, this really tells her story,” Davis said.

The most difficult moment for Davis?

Watching Houston perform “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” five years ago on Winfrey’s show.
In it Houston sings “I tumbled, but I did not crumble” and “I was not built to break,” three years before she died of what the Los Angeles County coroner ruled an accidental drowning while she was “acutely intoxicated from cocaine.”

So excited for both albums! Fave Whitney/Aretha moments?

7 (3) TV Stars Who Really Deserve a Better Show

kate_walsh

We love these actors, but it's time for a little tough love about their current career paths.

Kate-Walsh

Kate Walsh on 'Bad Judge'

NBC's Bad Judge is certainly a critical dud, which is a crime, as Kate Walsh is more than capable of carrying a comedy or drama. She has been sorely missed since leaving our TVs with the disappearance of Private Practice, and while it's possible for Judge to improve, viewers seem to have plenty of objections with it.

kat_dennings

Kat Dennings on '2 Broke Girls'

Viewers — even if they're afraid to admit it — seem to be still watching the CBS sitcom. However, its ratings are clearly on the decline, as the show averaged 11.29 million viewers in its first season but just 8.98 million in its third.Kat Dennings still maintains her winning persona throughout the proceedings, despite having to deliver some groaner-quality punchlines. She needs to escape the dreary diner show and find a series that can consistently give viewers what they loved about her in the Thor movies and The House Bunny.

Jenny Slate on 'Married'

After the surprising success of this summer's hit indie film Obvious Child, the former Saturday Night Live featured player has well-deserved career heat. She would be a perfect fit as the lead on an edgy HBO comedy, rather than as a supporting member of FX's tepid Married.

Serena 2014 ½
Have you ever wanted to punch a film right in the face if it, you know, actually had a face to punch?
Well, that's Serena for you. A film so brilliant on paper and so dizzyingly poor in execution. The relentless close-ups, wavy dialogue and constant cut sequences to tranquil forests; seriously there is more ethereal woodland scenes here than in the entire fucking Twilight Saga...it's all just so bland and vapid.
Considering the chemistry Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper have - both as friends and frequent co-workers - they fail to fizzle here, and that's down to the wafer-thin prose they have to spit.
Toby Jones is a uptight sheriff and Sean Harris/Rhys Ifans are slurring Texans too. Yup...

To put it bluntly, Serena is a mess.
The movie is set in 1929 North Carolina, just as the effects of the Wall Street crash are beginning to adversely affect the US economy. Cooper is George Pemberton, a timber magnate who has had to resort to illegal methods in order to keep his business thriving. There's some mumbling about bribes, but it's all very vague, as is much of this film. While on vacation, he catches the eye of Serena (Lawrence), a young orphaned woman whose family died in a fire while she was a child. Pemberton introduces himself with the line, "We should be married," and following a quick montage of the pair rolling around, he arrives back in North Carolina with his new bride.
Unwilling to merely serve as Pemberton's arm ornament, Serena quickly establishes herself as a business partner, and an effective one at that. This draws the ire of Pemberton's number two, Buchanan (David Dencik, a Swedish character actor who struggles with a US accent here). It's implied that Buchanan wants to be Pemberton's partner in more than just a business sense, but this is but one of several subplots that feel under-developed in this cut.
For most of Serena's running time, we find ourselves trying to get a grasp on just what story Bier is telling here. With so many subplots at play, we can't fully invest in any of them. Is the movie about Serena's struggle to cope with the knowledge that she can't bear children? Is the focus instead on Pemberton's attempts to keep his business afloat? Or Pemberton's secret funding of the son he bore with a young local girl? And what's with Rhys Ifan's creepy tracker, who seems to share a psychic bond with Serena, who herself appears to have a supernatural way with beasts. Watching Serena is like waiting for your wife to settle on an outfit to wear, but in this case, none of them fit.
All of the aforementioned plot strands come together unconvincingly in the film's final act, when the movie becomes a postmodern riff on the 'Wicked Woman' pictures so beloved by Hollywood in the 30s and 40s. None of the characters' actions are remotely believable, however, and the movie seems to know it's outstayed its welcome, stumbling loudly to its conclusion like a scream queen chased through a field in high heels by an axe-wielding maniac.
It's impossible not to assume there's a far longer and much more comprehensive cut of Serena out there. Maybe it will be released later down the line and we'll then reassess Bier's film, which is visually one of the most striking of the year, but in its current form, Serena is simply a disaster.

“I’m really nervous about that,” he said. “I didn’t know that’s what I was signing up for.”
Check it out below, and prepare yourself to see him in even tinier underwear when Magic Mike XXL comes out next August.

Jessica Chastain Teases Interstellar: "It's Definitely A Love Story"

We can't wait to see Interstellar.

Director Christopher Nolan's latest film (in theaters Nov. 7) has been shrouded in so much secrecy.

But little by little, we're finally hearing tidbits about the movie, which stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine and more in a story about the discovrey of and the voyage into a wormhole in space to help save an environmentally destroyed earth.

I caught up with Chastain for an exclusive interview earlier this week at the opening of the launch of the Extrememly Piaget launch party and opening of the French jewelery house's new flagship store on Rodeo Drive.

"I'll tell you a little bit," the Oscar nominee teased. "I'll tell you about my character. I play a woman who is like a scientist. She's super super smart and scientific and she's not whole at the beginning when we see here. There's an emotional part missing that we then wonder, ‘Does she become completed by the end? Is there that journey?' I would say yes."
000
It may appear to be a sci-fi flick, but Chastain said, "It's definitely a love story, definitely a love story. As much as the film is about outer space and like the most incredible action, adventure, epic, epic film, it's so much about love.

"Trust me," she continued, "there's no way to over hype this film. I never talked like this about a film, but when I saw it I was like I don't know what to do. It's great."

Chastain worked most with Michael Caine.

"There was one day we were doing a scene and they stopped and it was just Michael and I and they were changing the lighting," she remembered."I was of course asking him all these questions like, ‘Did you ever meet so and so? How as this experience? Tell me about this movie.' There was a little bit of a break and he kind of looked away and I walked over to Christopher Nolan and I just went, ‘Thank you so much. I'll remember this day forever.' It was really special."

Several award season pundits have Jessica now in the mix for Best Supporting Actress for the movie, I don't know if she can get in there BUT I am very excited for the movie to come out. Right now, Patricia Arquette remains the frontrunner for Boyhood.

Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Tell! After almost a month of marriage, Lauren Conrad and William Tell are happier than ever, attending their first post-wedding event at the 5th Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in Pacific Palisades, Calif. on Saturday, Oct. 11.

The newlyweds were smitten with one another at the event, answering a few questions together before watching the match.
"It doesn't feel too different -- we felt married before we were actually married," the fashion designer, 28, tells Us Weekly.

And though it feels natural after several years together, Tell loves that they made it official.

"I could get used to this," the law school grad, 34, tells Us pointing to his wedding band.
After their September wedding, the Tells left for a European getaway where they drove around the countryside.

"We did Sicily in Italy and then Santorini in Greece," Conrad revealed. "I think our favorite part about Sicily was the food. We just had amazing meals everywhere. We rented a car and drove around, it was a beautiful place."

His Hollywood family is worth nearly $500 million but the troubled homeless stepson of Barbra Streisand whiles away his days sitting on benches and rummaging through public trash cans.

Jess Brolin, son of actor James Brolin and brother to Josh, was recently photographed picking through garbage where he lives in Ojai, California.

After losing his $800 per month apartment in 2011, the 41-year-old now lives on the streets and sleeps in vacant lots not 80 miles from his millionaire showbiz family's home.

Teresa Giudice Opens Up About Going To Prison: “This Is A Life Lesson That I Need To Learn!”

Teresa is speaking out about going to prison and admitting that she feels guilty every day for her actions. Teresa says she is ready to learn from her mistakes, focus on the positives, and come back stronger.

“I wish I could do everything differently,” a tearful Teresa acknowledges. “But then again, maybe not, because this is a life lesson I need to learn and will learn, and will teach my children for the rest of my life, just as Judge Salas told me she expected me to do.”

Unfortunately, a week after sentencing, Teresa is still reeling from the news that she will serve time – including recently stating that she didn’t understand that by accepting a guilty plea there was a very real possibly that she would serve time instead of receiving probation as she expected.

Teresa’s crisis PR manager, Wendy Feldman, explains to Us Weekly that her client’s comments were a reaction to the incredible burden Teresa has been under: working to keep their family financially afloat, filming, caring for her daughters, and trying to remain strong while dealing with her legal issues, and Joe’s. “Teresa is physically tired, emotional and in a state of fear,” Wendy says.

Lisa Rinna & Yolanda Foster Wear Same Dress!

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills stars Yolanda Foster and newcomer Lisa Rinna attended the Carousel of Hope Ball in Beverly Hills, Calif., Saturday night wearing two identical dresses.
Between the color, shape, length and even the accessories, these two ladies could have called themselves twins at the bi-annual event.

Both ladies were on-hand to support the good cause as well as David Foster, who served as the music director of the evening. Jennifer Hudson, Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds and Josh Groban were performers for the fundraiser.

While some may find the matching outfits to be an awkward moment, Rinna and Foster appeared to embrace it as they posed for multiple pictures together on and off the red carpet.

Buzzfeed Examines What Would Happen If Everyone Acted Like a Bravo Housewife!

Sunday night is “Housewives” night, and it’s probably best it might be best if we all left their shenanigans on TV in our off hours. We can’t (and shouldn’t) pull stunts like the pros!
Bravo’s housewives live glamorous lives, and it can be really easy to get caught up in their image. Some would even love to model their own existence after what they see on TV.

However, since throwing drinks, being loud, and getting over-dramatic is part of their act, we strongly advise against acting like your fave Bravo housewife. It’s not a good look in real life! Don’t believe us?

Find out what happened when two Buzzfeed workers took their social cues from “The Real Housewives” franchise. It’s hilarious, but it doesn’t end well.

Jacqueline Wants Danielle Back On RHONJ!

Jacqueline has issues with Teresa and it appears she is looking to find people who might be a better fit. Perhaps that is why Laurita suggested that Danielle returns to the Bravo series in the upcoming season. According to Reality Tea on Friday, Danielle spoke out about Teresa’s upcoming sentence and she made it out to be that she was available if the producers want her back in the show.

Apparently Danielle was heard by the cast too, as Jacqueline suggested to fans that the star should be considered for an upcoming season. The shocking revelation was a surprise to the viewers of the show.

So what was Jacqueline’s reasoning for considering Danielle? Well, she was looking to “spice things up.” While the ladies on the reality show do bicker and fight, Staub has been pretty entertaining to watch in the past and viewers appreciate that she speaks her mind. Compared to Teresa Giudice, she might be a breath of fresh air and a good choice while Teresa is serving her time.

Tamra Extremely Happy After Winning Custody Case

It’s a good week for Tamra Judge! The Real Housewives of Orange County star was victorious in a custody battle court hearing with her ex-husband, Simon Barney, on Thursday.

In court, Simon asked for “sole physical custody” of the pair’s kids, Sidney, 15, Spencer, 14, and Sophia, 8, claiming the reality star was a “negligent” mother. Due to lack of evidence, though, the judge dismissed his motion for a custody change regarding Spencer and Sophia. The status for Sidney was not decided, with another hearing set for December.

“I’m extremely happy!” Tamra told Star after the hearing. “I’m so happy this nightmare is over for my children’s sake. What Simon did to tarnish my image was so damaging to the children. To make up horrible stories about the mother of his children is horrible. I’ve never been anything but a wonderful, hands-on mother to our children. Shame on him for putting everyone through such an emotionally draining experience. I hope that this will stop his constant harassing and make him move on with his life.”

Jessie Ware’s sophomore album, Tough Love, comes out soon. So far, we’ve heard a lot of songs and previews of songs from the record, but here’s something that won’t show up on it when it drops. It’s a demo for a song called “12″ that was made with Rhye’s Robin Hannibal and producer Salva. Here’s what Ware had to say about it: “I made 12 with Robin Hannibal last year at Red Bull Studios London. Loved him since hearing Quadron’s Average Fruit and although this track never made it onto ’Tough Love’, it was a joy to work with Robin finally. This is a song for my Sam and I hope you like it, play it late and go kiss someone.” Listen below.

Just an excuse to talk about this beautiful record tbh!! I love the demo though

Cosplay is bad for the economy?

$

denver
Imagine you're a college graduate stuck in a perpetually lousy economy. That's a problem Japanese twenty-somethings have faced for more than 20 years. Two decades of stagnation after the collapse of the 1980s real-estate and stock bubbles — combined with labor laws making it tough to fire older workers — have relegated vast numbers of Japanese young adults to low-paying, temporary contract jobs. Many find themselves living with their parents well into their twenties and beyond, unmarried and childless.

Then again, they do have plenty of time to dress up like wand-wielding sailor girls and cybernetic alchemist soldiers from the colorful world of anime cartoons and manga comics. Indeed, Japan's Lost Decades have coincided with a major spike in "people escaping to virtual worlds of games, animation, and costume play," Masahiro Yamada, a sociology professor at Chuo University in Tokyo, recently told the Financial Times. "Here, even the young and poor can feel as though they are a hero."

It's hard to blame them. After all, it's not that these young adults in Japan are resisting becoming productive members of the economy — it's that there just aren't enough opportunities for them. So an increasingly large number of them spend an increasingly large amount of time living in make-believe fantasy worlds, pretending they are someone else, somewhere else. This is a very bad thing for the Japanese economy.

And guess what: America has a growing number of make-believe "cosplay" heroes, too. Many of the 130,000 people who attend the San Diego Comic Con every year invest big bucks in elaborate outfits as a way of showing off their favorite Japanese characters, as well as those from American superhero movies, comics, and "genre" televisions shows such as Game of Thrones. And this trend is growing — the crowd at Comic Con was one-third this size in 2000. In 2013, the SyFy channel even created a reality show about the trend, Heroes of Cosplay.

The rise in popularity partly stems from the 1990s influx of Japanese anime and manga. But America's own post-bubble economic funk is also probably playing a role. U.S. economic growth has averaged just 1 percent annually since 2006, as the Great Recession has been followed by a weak recovery. And that anemic growth has dimmed prospects for young job seekers. The unemployment rate for men and women 20 to 24 years old is 11.4 percent, versus a low of 7.2 percent in 2007. And as a new White House report notes, workers who get their first jobs during a recession earn as much as 9 percent less per year than those who do not — and the effect lasts for as much as 15 years.

When you're disillusioned with the reality of your early adult life, dressing up like Doctor Who starts looking better and better. It's not to say that all or even most cosplay aficionados are struggling to find work. It's only to say that any rise in people fleeing reality for fantasy suggests problems with our reality.

Marvel Announces New Ongoing Comics!

Marvel Comics was very busy today at New York Comic Con, where they announced a number of new comic books as well as the end of a long time title.

The first announcement was that Hawkeye, launched by writer Matt Fraction and David Aja and concluding very soon, will be relaunched next year with Green Arrow writer Jeff Lemire making his Marvel debut and Ramon Perez on art duties.

Marvel’s first new title revealed, which should come as no surprise given the upcoming film, is Ant-Man from Superior Foes of Spider-Man writer Nick Spencer and artist Ramon Rosanas which will see Scott Lang as the titular hero.

Another new title announced was Silk, a new series focusing on the recently-introduced Cindy Moon who it was revealed was also bitten by the same spider that gave Peter Parker his powers. “Supernatural” writer Robbie Thompson will pen the series with art by Stacey Lee. It will debut in February of 2015.

In addition, another spider-themed book was announced, as none other than the newly-created “Spider-Gwen” was revealed to be getting her own ongoing comic series. Set in an alternate universe from the “616″ Marvel U, Spider-Gwen takes place in a world where Gwen Stacy was bitten by the radioactive spider instead of Peter Parker. Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez, who wrote and drew the Edge of Spider-Verse issue where she debuted, will return for the ongoing series.

Moving to the outer reaches of the Marvel U, it was also revealed that Guardian of the Galaxy Gamora will be getting her own solo comic series, making it the fourth “Guardians” spin-off title being published. The new comic will be written by Nicole Perlman, who co-wrote the script for the film version of Guardians of the Galaxy. It will debut in Spring 2015.

Keanu Reeves Talks About The Idea Of Playing Doctor Strange

Keanu Reeves might be interested in playing Doctor Strange, should the right situation present itself.

In an interview with Collider, Reeves responded to the online chatter that he should don the Eye of Agamotto. Essentially, Reeve's is apprehensive about signing any of the long-term contracts that Marvel studios is famous for. The last thing he wants, he suggested, is to be strapped to a future film that's not "up to a certain level. Like a good or great level."

However, Reeves also added, "I like the idea. I mean I go to those kinds of movies. I like superhero movies. I grew up on them and comics and graphic novels."

While he's never read a Doctor Strange comic, Reeves said he that would like to read some and familiarize himself with the character. So--we'll take that as a "maybe?"

If Reeve's eventually takes the role, it wouldn't be his first spin as a comic book character. He played John Constantine in 2005 film Constantine, which was met with a lukewarm response (Bitch, Constantine was great)

Doctor Strange does not have a release date just yet, but it is currently in development at Marvel Studios with director Scott Derrickson attached.
