Movie of the Year to be Released on Blu-ray December 18, Plus Watch an Alternate Scene

Pitch Perfect, the collegiate a cappella comedy with Anna Kendrick, will become available on Blu-ray on Dec. 18, just in time for Christmas. The Oscar-nominated actress (Up in the Air) stars as a rebellious newbie who begrudgingly joins the university’s prim female acoustic singing group and promptly helps them find their true voice. Unapologetically Glee-ful, the movie was a sleeper hit, to the tune of $61 million so far. With the outrageous Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids), Anna Camp (The Help), and Brittany Snow (Hairspray) providing more than just backup vocals, it’s the kind of film that should enjoy a long shelf life on home video, cable (and the inevitable Bring It On style sequels.)

Simultaneously released on DVD, On Demand, and Digital Download, Pitch Perfect is packed with deleted and extended scenes, music videos, and lots more of Wilson’s scene-stealing Fat Amy. Click below for an exclusive extended scene of the world-champion pirate dancer and a list of all the discs’ bonus features.

'Mindy Project' cast shakeup: Anna Camp now recurring, Amanda Setton exits

0
0

There's some major tinkering going down at FOX's "The Mindy Project": co-star Anna Camp will shift from full-time regular to recurring status, while Amanda Setton will exit the series.

The critically acclaimed first-year comedy already received an expanded full-season order from FOX, but has struggled to find an audience in its five airings to date.

Camp plays the best friend of Mindy Kaling's character Mindy Lahiri and TVLine reports that the actress asked to be"taken off contract" so she can "pursue other opportunities" while continuing her "Mindy" role in a reduced capacity. (NOOOOOOO)

"Mindy" fans may have seen this coming: the show hasn't had the easiest time integrating Camp's character into storylines that largely concern Mindy's professional and dating life. Additionally, Camp recently appeared on the big screen in the sleeper success "Pitch Perfect."

Setton's character -- sexpot receptionist Shauna -- fit more naturally into the storylines, but the actress' exit comes down to "creative reasons."

TVLine additionally notes that "Mindy" plans to introduce a new female character soon: Maggie, a tomboyish college friend of Mindy's, who could become a series regular.

"Diamonds" Becomes Rihanna's 12th Hot 100 #1

0
0

There's a shiny new No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, as Rihanna's "Diamonds" rises 2-1. The song dethrones Maroon 5's "One More Night" (1-2) after a nine-week reign.

With her 12th Hot 100 topper, Rihanna ties Madonna and the Supremes for the fourth-most leaders in the chart's 54-year history. (The Supremes' sum does not include Diana Ross' six solo No. 1s.) Only the Beatles (20), Mariah Carey (18) and Michael Jackson (13; also not counting the Jackson 5's four No. 1s) have sent more titles to the top of the Hot 100.

Here is a recap of Rihanna's dozen dominators on the Hot 100:
2006, "SOS" (three weeks at No. 1)
2007," Umbrella," featuring Jay-Z (seven)
2008, "Take a Bow" (one)
2008, "Disturbia" (two)
2008, "Live Your Life" (T.I. featuring Rihanna) (six)
2010, "Rude Boy" (five)
2010, "Love the Way You Lie" (Eminem featuring Rihanna) (seven)
2010, "What's My Name?," featuring Drake (one)
2010, "Only Girl (In the World)" (one)
2011, "S&M," featuring Britney Spears (one)
2011, "We Found Love," featuring Calvin Harris (10)
2012, "Diamonds" (one to date)

Having first led the Hot 100 the week of May 13, 2006, with "SOS," Rihanna passes Carey as the female artist to reach 12 No. 1s the fastest. Rihanna's six-year, seven-month span between her first and 12th leaders bests Carey's seven-year, one-month, two-week stretch. Among all acts, only the Beatles (a rapid-fire, Beatlemania-fueled two years, four months and three weeks) and the Supremes (five years, four months) reached the milestone more quickly.

"Diamonds" introduces Rihanna's seventh studio set, "Unapologetic," released yesterday. While she has now banked 12 Hot 100 No. 1s, she's yet to top the Billboard 200 album chart. Stay tuned to Billboard.com for projections on whether "Unapologetic" could grant Rihanna her first Billboard 200 No. 1 next week.

FINALLY something to post about COLIN FARRELL...

Ladies, your knight has arrived! Colin Farrell rides through the streets of New York on a white horse
colinhorse5

He may be wearing a suit instead of a suit of armor, but Colin Farrell certainly had all the qualities of a modern day knight as he rode around Brooklyn, New York, on a white horse.
Looking more suave then he has ever before, the Irish actor gallantly rode his steed as the camera's rolled for his new film Winter's Tale on Wednesday.

Despite wearing a suit and dress shoes, the 36-year-old actor looked very comfortable atop of the very large white horse.

Making the feat ever more impressive was that the Total Recall star rode the horse without a saddle - a tough technique that only the most experienced riders can master.
Not bad for someone who only learnt to ride a few years ago, for another film Alexander - which also co-stared Angelina Jolie and Val Kilmer. On that production, director Oliver Stone made the actor ride ride horses for months to perfect his equestrian skills.

In his new movie Winter's Tale - based on a novel with the same title - Colin forms a special bond with the horse who acts as his character, Peter Lake's, guardian angel.
The unusual tale flicks between 19th century and a present day, but altered, New York, and is the directorial debut of the Oscar-winning writer of A Beautiful Mind, Akiva Goldsman - who also wrote the screenplay.
The love story follows Colin's character who falls for a dying young woman - played by Downton Abbey's Jessica Brown Findlay - after breaking into her Manhattan mansion.

X FACTOR DISCUSSION + Demi Brings Girls to Meet Wilmer

Demi excites her girls with a special visit from hunky
ex-boyfriend Wilmer.

X Factor Season 2 judge Demi Lovato is seemingly giving her heart a break and rekindling things with ex boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama. Demi, 20, and Wilmer, 32, have stayed close since splitting in 2011 — but recent reports point to something more than friendship.

Back in September, The New York Post spotted Wilmer at Demi’s side all night at The X Factor premiere party. “Wilmer stayed by Demi’s side all night,” a source reported. “He was very protective of her and had his legs straddled around her chair while they watched the show.” They were also reportedly seen together during a private event at Bagatelle LA in West Hollywood.

Now, we have photo evidence that Wilmer is sticking by Demi’s side and supporting her X Factor work. Contestant Paige Thomas tweeted a photo of herself, Demi, and Wilmer. “So grateful for life and such a beautiful day yesterday with an amazing mentor @ddlovato and @WValderrama!” Paige tweeted. In another photo, Wilmer is seen hugging single mother Paige by the waist. Cece Frey and eliminated Jennel did not post any photos.

A source previously told HollywoodLife.com, “Demi & Wilmer are not officially dating but it’s only a matter of time. They really have always liked each other, still have tons of respect for each other, and are still in love.”

Rose McGowan's Dating Deal-Breaker: Sloppy Kisses

rmcg
ugh, she was so beautiful ;w;

No need to find a secret spell on how to kiss Rose McGowan: The former Charmed star will tell you what she likes – and what she doesn't.

"Don't be sloppy!" McGowan, 39, tells PEOPLE. "That's the worst. You could find the hottest guy on the planet and if he's a bad kisser, it just doesn't work."

The actress hosted Cosmopolitan and Maybeline's Kisses for the Troops event on Monday in New York City and spilled the beans on what she considers to be a sexy smooch.

"I like the man to be medium aggressive, not somebody who's going to shove his tongue down your throat," she says. "That's not sexy."

Smooching comes with the territory for an actress says McGowan, who previously dated rocker Marilyn Manson and was engaged to filmmaker Robert Rodriguez.

"I had to kiss a lot of people on Charmed and I would kiss people I wouldn't even know. I'd say 'Hi, you're Ted? Let's make out Ted. Okay, Ted, it was really nice to meet you. I'll never see you again.' "

As far as kissing skills go, McGowan says guys shouldn't bother trying to learn too much. "I don't think you can teach somebody [to kiss]," she says. "You either just know how to do it or you don't."

DC vs. Marvel: Aquaman vs. Namor the Sub-Mariner

awuanamorbanner

For as long as there have been comic books, there has been the feud between DC and Marvel. Both are heavy-hitting comic companies that continue to gain legions of fans every year. The purpose of this column is to take one DC persona and one Marvel persona of equal measure and popularity and pit them against each other to see who would  come out on top.

aquanamorbackground

Background:

Arthur Curry (also called Orin) was born to a human father (Tom Curry) and Atlantean mother. One backstory says that as a young boy growing up in Maine, Arthur’s powers began to develop and on his mother’s deathbed he discovered his true heritage. In another version of his backstory, Arthur was raised by dolphins and later adopted by Tom. After adventures with Greek Gods and Atlantean prisons, Arthur eventually claimed his birthright as the King of Atlantis. Aquaman has a rich backstory including his wife Mera, Queen of Dimension Aqua and their children. Arthur and Mera stayed strong through many tragedies, including the death of Aquababy, and their romance is one of the most loved in comic history. After being killed defending Atlantis, Aquaman was revived as a Black Lantern and eventually brought back to life by the White Lantern Central Power Battery. Since his debut in 1941, he has had numerous epic storylines throughout his comic history. Although the continuity of Arthur’s backstory has changed with DC’s always shifting universe, he is always half man and half Atlantean, and most importantly, the King of Atlantis.

Namor McKenzie was born to an American seaman and the princess of Atlantis. His father died when he was very young and he grew up with his mother and her people. Putting aside his resentment for humans, Namor began to (begrudgingly) become the surface’s protector. Known as the Sub-Mariner, Namor not only ruled over his underwater people, but formed many alliances on the surface to keep humans safe including The Defenders. He has even partnered with supervillians at times. During the Civil War Namor disagreed with Iron Man’s support of the Superhero Registration Act. Namor has been married a few times throughout his history as well. Through the years, he has been alternately portrayed as a good-natured but short-fused superhero, or a hostile invader seeking vengeance for perceived wrongs that misguided surface-dwellers committed against his kingdom. Due to his reliance on a grey area of justice he is the first known comic “antihero” as well as the first mutant in the Marvel Universe (due to his unexplained powers). Regardless of the light he’s painted in, Namor is known as Marvel’s sea-man since 1939. Both men have long histories and rich backstories, hence this category is a tie.

Point: TIE

skills
Skills:
Aquaman’s abilities include super-strength, durability, and speed, and being able to stay underwater indefinitely, as well as telepathy, which he uses to communicate with sea-life and allow them to do his bidding. Being half human and half royal Atlantean, Arthur is not only a super-human, but a super-Atlantean as well. Arthur also has enhanced sight, hearing, and smell as well as superhuman reflexes. He is a master swimmer, expert combatant and tactician and accomplished diplomat. His only weakness comes from staying outside of the water for too long.
Namor possesses superhuman strength, stamina, and durability. He can also fly and communicate telepathically with most sea life. The Sub-Mariner can speak English, Atlantean, and Lemurian and is a highly skilled business executive. The Sub-Mariner has the ability (at times) to mimic the characteristics of all the undersea creatures including sonar, lateral lines, and bio-electricity. His body is specially developed for underwater existence (including highly developed vision and specialized blood circulation) and like Aquaman; he cannot stay out of water for too long without losing his powers. While both men have similar amphibian abilities, it’s Namor’s to ability mimic sea creatures and take to the sky as well that gives him the edge in this category.
Point: Namor the Sub-Mariner

aquanamoraffil
Affiliations:
Aquaman was a founding member of the Justice League of America (in some timelines) and is known for working with them. He was also involved in the disbanding and reforming of the Justice League in Detroit. He oftentimes works with his wife Mera and sidekicks Aqualad and Aquagirl. When you picture Aquaman, it is usually within the group of The Justice League.
Namor has been affiliated with the X-Men, The Defenders, The Illuminati, The Invaders, and The Avengers. He even worked with The Fantastic Four. Both superheroes are team players but it is Aquaman’s loyalty and importance to The Justice League that gives him a point for Affiliations.
Point: Aquaman

aquanamorapparal
Apparel/Weapons:
Aquaman wears a characteristic orange and green armor made from a chain-mail like substance. He carries the Trident of Neptune which gives him great power and the divine right to rule the sea. With it he can manipulate and conjure water and disperse energy through bolts and forcefields. He can even control the weather and turn living creatures into different species, as well as make things disappear. At various points in his storyline Arthur also possessed the Cybernetic Hand, a prosthetic to replace the one he lost to piranhas that could be altered to form various weapons. At one point he also possessed the Waterbearer hand (given to him by the Lady of the Lake) which possessed various magical abilities including a healing touch.
The Sub-Mariner has had a few costume changes over the years. His most common look is that of a bright green, scaly speedo or a shiny black suit reminiscent of extraterrestrials. He is also often seen with a golden belt and wrist bands. Namor is the current owner of the Power Gem, which can back all other gems. He also uses the Proteus Horn to communicate with sea life. For a little while Namor was given the Time Gem which allowed him to control time (past, present, and future). While both men have impressive arsenals, Aquaman’s costume and trident are not only extremely powerful but much more recognized than Namor’s paraphernalia.
Point: Aquaman

aquanamorrelevance
Social Relevance:
For a long time Aquaman was DC’s whipping boy. Despite being one of the main members of the Justice League, and very powerful in his own right, he was the butt of many jokes. Aquaman has appeared in various cartoon series including The Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure, Super Friends, and Justice League. Arthur Curry has had multiple live action appearances on the show Smallville, played by Alan Ritchson. Aquaman is often referenced (usually jokingly) in popular culture including The Big Bang Theory, Entourage, Family Guy, and Spongebob Squarepants.  With the New 52 series, Aquaman is re-envisioned as a battle-hardened warrior who is aware of his social status (the writers poking fun at his reputation). His newest storylines are widely regarded to be some of the best of New 52 and with a Justice League movie slated for 2015, it’s possible he may reach the big screen. Aquaman was rated the 147th greatest comic book character of all time by Wizard magazine and the 53rd greatest comic book hero of all time by IGN. Love him or hate him, everyone knows who Aquaman is.
The Sub-mariner was the first official Marvel superhero and has appeared in various animated television shows including The Marvel Super Heroes, Spider-Man, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Fantastic Four, The Avengers: United They Stand and Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest Heroes. In 2006 it was announced that a Sub-Mariner movie would be produced but it has yet to come. Namor was listed as the 88th greatest comic book character by Wizard magazine and IGN ranked Namor as the 77th greatest comic book hero of all time. Comic book fans definitely know who Namor is but outside of that realm, his name doesn’t bring about as much recognition as Aquaman’s does, which is why Aquaman wins for social relevance.
Point: Aquaman
Both Aquaman and Namor the Sub-Mariner are long-lived and powerful superheroes. They rule Atlantis in their separate universes but only one can win this battle, and that’s the ever-talked-about Aquaman.
WINNER:  Aquaman!

Bollywood's Priyanka Chopra as pioneering pop act in U.S.

0
0

Priyanka Chopra looks like a pop star when she struts into Hollywood's Chalice Studios, entourage in tow. Her sultry smile, body-hugging dress and towering heels command attention.

She has the image, sure. But not the name. At least not outside of India.

Yet Chopra, 30, is here to listen to her debut album helmed by Grammy Award-winning producer-songwriter RedOne (a.k.a. Nadir Khayat), the same guy who catapulted Lady Gaga into superstardom.

For the last decade Priyanka has been a Bollywood celeb. But now she has her sights on American pop stardom — an experiment that's as calculated as it is risky.

Remember the Indian "crossover" films "Bride & Prejudice" or "Bollywood/Hollywood"? Thought so.

Regardless, Chopra's album will officially launch Desi Hits! Universal, a new label headed by Bollywood music mogul Anjula Acharia-Bath and Jimmy Iovine, the label head behind Gaga, Eminem and Black Eyed Peas. Their goal: to break an Indian pop act in America.

It doesn't sound like much, but as acts from Europe and Latin America continue to find crossover success, South Asia has remained largely untapped in the global music market. If her sound sticks, Chopra's transition from the world of Bollywood to U.S. charts could break ground. And the machine behind her is working aggressively to ensure it does.

"It scares the crap out of me," Chopra says and laughs while seated in front of a large control board at Chalice.

Acharia-Bath says she saw an opportunity to break an Indian act after the success of 2008's "Slumdog Millionaire." The film grossed more than $140 million in the U.S. and its soundtrack by Indian composer A.R. Rahman sparked Bollywood fervor with "Jai Ho."

But even before the film came out, Acharia-Bath co-launched Desi Hits! as an online entertainment and lifestyle hub to promote South Asian entertainers in the global pop music market.

"We've seen our beats … culture and a lot of our community influences in Western pop culture, but we've never really had a face that represents us, especially in music," she says. "That's been tough for us, but this should open up the door for more."

To get the listener's attention — and guarantee a hit — Desi Hits! recruited RedOne to guide the project, a no-brainer given the Moroccan-born hit maker's credentials. He's one of pop's most in-demand producers and aside from Gaga has crafted platinum smashes for Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias and Nicki Minaj.

At Chalice, RedOne dials up the volume and starts dancing along to a pounding club beat. As the track "Relax Me" plays, Chopra's voice fills the room, and then somewhere between flirty lyrics and sexy coos is the surprising beat of Indian tabla drums. It caters to pop radio, and Khayat flashes a smile of confidence when the song concludes.

He's certain the record, and every song he plays next, are hits.

"Priyanka fits perfectly," says RedOne of her potential appeal. "I thought, 'Oh my God, this girl could be a huge global star.' It's something fresh for the world to hear."

Chopra is the first, and so far only, act signed to the new label, and her debut album is set for early next year.

Her record will be released through Iovine's Interscope and RedOne's 2101 Records imprint — both part of Universal, one of the biggest labels in the U.S. Chopra's music career will be guided by Lady Gaga's manager and she is the first Bollywood star signed to talent juggernaut Creative Artists Agency.

The lead single, "In My City," which debuted in America last month, got a major push when it was chosen as the anthem for "Thursday Night Kickoff"— the pregame show for NFL Network's Thursday night football. "Our first real validation was the NFL," Acharia-Bath says. "It shows that she can break mainstream and be as American as apple pie."

Chopra's NFL placement was bold considering it places her in the company of major recording acts such as Faith Hill, Pink, Hank Williams Jr. and Cee Lo Green, who have contributed themes. In the pregame clip she channeled pop star prowess as she danced to the single wearing sexier versions of team jerseys.

Having already lent her face to global brands such as Pepsi, Nikon and Levi's in India, Chopra's team is fielding stateside tie-ins, such as the NFL one, that can coincide with the album.

The reaction to Chopra's singing debut is mixed. "In My City," which she co-wrote with RedOne and Ester Dean (Rihanna, Katy Perry), has garnered praise from Entertainment Weekly and Ryan Seacrest, though online commenters have shrugged it off as "generic." And while she engages nearly 3 million Twitter followers, some have criticized her new career as an attempt at being Gori (South Asian slang for Caucasian).

At her urging, Interscope made the single available in India before its NFL kickoff. "It was important for me to see there was a sort of acceptance from my country and community because I'm doing an album in English," Chopra says.

In the first week of release, "In My City" moved more than 130,000 copies in India and shot to No. 1 on the Hindi pop chart. But in America, the single has been slower to catch on and has yet to be serviced to radio (a music video is forthcoming). It sold about 5,000 downloads on iTunes, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Chopra, however, is not a pop star in India either. She is an actress, and outside of singing and performing music from her films she has never released music. The team wants to break her in America first, before taking the music back home where there is an audience of more than 1.2 billion people.

"[Indian] radio plays Hindi movie music and there's nothing else," Chopra says. "Their idea was no pop act has been able to break India in a big way because the music is so monopolized. What they wanted to do was take an Indian actress and see if they can break her globally first."

Despite cultural and geographical divides, Iovine, chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M, makes the sell on Chopra sound simple: "Many [new] artists in the record industry these days lack an idea. When I met Lana Del Rey, there was an idea. You meet Eminem, you get it. When I met Lady Gaga, before I heard the music, it was clear what the idea was," he offers. "Priyanka is an idea. You get it within 30 seconds."

Chopra says she never really had pop-star ambitions, despite falling in love with American R&B and hip-hop (she is obsessed with Tupac Shakur) while going to high school in the United States.

Born in Bihar, India, she originally studied to be an aeronautical engineer before her mother submitted photos to the Femina Miss India competition, which catapulted her into the pageant world. After she took the Miss India and Miss World titles in 2000, film roles poured in. Her latest film, "Barfi!" is the country's entry for the upcoming Academy Awards.

Most Bollywood actors lip-sync to playback singers, but Chopra is one of the rare personalities who sings. It's one of the reasons she was approached by Acharia-Bath and Universal in 2010.

In conversation she is candid about taking vocal lessons and facing the pressure of breaking a new audience. "I don't want to come into [America] saying I'm this big star," she says. "I'm a new artist and nobody knows me here and I'm not delusional about it. I know I have flaws."

Why an Indian pop star hasn't emerged, especially when an artist such as M.I.A. can transcend underground electro-hip-hop to perform at the Grammys and Super Bowl, is something that frustrates British R&B singer Jay Sean, who is of South Asian descent.

Sean, born to Punjabi Sikh immigrants, amassed a following with his fusion of Bhangra-R&B before inking a deal with urban powerhouse Cash Money Records to break America. His debut U.S. single, "Down," topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2009, making him the first solo artist of South Asian origin to do so.

"As frustrating as it may be, in all honesty I feel like it's still early for us and it will take time for South Asian acts to break the mainstream," he wrote in an email from Jakarta, Indonesia.

"For some reason we still seem to be put in a box. It's almost as if 'You're South Asian, you should be singing in an Indian dialect, shouldn't you?'"

Thanksgiving is merely hours away, and Britney Spears and will.i.am are giving fans something to be thankful for: The video for the superstars' new club-ready single "Scream and Shout" will debut November 28 on "The X Factor."

Directed by Ben Mor (Katy Perry's "Part of Me," Black Eyed Peas' "Meet Me Halfway"), "Scream and Shout" is the latest collaboration for the duo and serves as the latest single from the BEP frontman's upcoming solo project #willpower.

In a press release for the clip, will.i.am gushed about his experience working with the pop titan, deeming the in-studio reunion nothing short of "amazing." "Working with an artist like Britney is the reason I love making music. She loves music as much as I do. And I am so proud of this new song 'Scream & Shout,' " he said, adding, "This is the most exciting song I've worked on in a long time."  (are u kidding me? )

Britney is equally excited about the collabo, with the "X Factor" judge gushing: "There are few people on the planet who inspire me like will.i.am does. I couldn't be more excited to work with him again. I can't wait for people to hear the song and see the video."

Reported photos of Spears on the set of the "Scream and Shout" video hit the blogosphere mid-October and show the singer donning a slinky black two-piece ensemble. But for now, fans can catch the song in the latest Beats by Dre TV commercial, which features a string of cameos from artists like Lil Wayne, Ellie Goulding, and, of course, will.i.am.

Leo locks lips with lucious co-star. Wolf of Wallstreet indeed

Get it, Leonardo DiCaprio.

The newly single Hollywood heartthrob was snapped smooching on his much older costar (and Absolutely Fabulous star) Joanna Lumley, on the New York set of their movie The Wolf of Wall Street.

Did we mention that this was done when cameras weren't rolling?! No, we didnt, because that's not true (as exciting as this new couple alert would be).

The Martin Scorsese film revolves around a New York stockbroker who refuses to cooperate in a large securities-fraud case involving corruption on Wall Street, the corporate banking world and mob infiltration.

Clearly, among all that intensity, is also a moment of sweet lip puckering between the 38-year-old actor and 66-year-old actress on a park bench.

Does this sexy-ish scene get you excited for The Wolf of Wall St.? Sound off in the comments!
