ONTD Halloween Original™: 10 Songs From Horror Movie Soundtracks

$

"Without music, life would be a mistake."
- Friedrich Nietzsche, Twilight of the Idols

Music is an outlet for those who make it and those who don't. The anxieties we feel can be quelled by that favorite song, or bad memories can be summoned with a track you wish you never had to hear again. Music taps into our psyche more than we know.

In horror movies, sometimes the perfect song can elevate the story or mood. A song may also be a device to better explain what you see (or don't see) on screen.

Here are ten random songs featured in or written specifically for horror movies.

"How Do I Deal"
Jennifer Love Hewitt

from I Still Know What You Did Last Summer

LISTEN

Jennifer Love Hewitt provides the vocals for this original song on the I Still Know What You Did Last Summer soundtrack. "How Do I Deal" is an angsty pop/rock track that reflects the less dour mood of the sequel while still referencing the trauma the protagonist feels after the events of the first movie.

"Prisoner"
Barbra Streisand

from Eyes of Laura Mars

LISTEN

Even if you're not a fan of Streisand, this haunting ballad is enjoyable. Streisand is wild as she cuts the musical theatrics and unleashes her voice.

"Prom Night"
from Prom Night

LISTEN

This slasher couldn't get the rights to actual famous disco tracks so the movie composed its own. It was revealed that the singer of the movie's title song is not a single person but really an amalgam of random backing vocalists. Try not to get this one stuck in your head.

"Cry Little Sister"
Gerard McMann

from The Lost Boys

LISTEN

The Gothic "Cry Little Sister" serves as the main theme for The Lost Boys, a coming-of-age tale involving vampires. It's a dreamy dark wave track that was actually written before Gerard McMann saw any footage from the movie. So it mentions nothing about vampires yet somehow encapsulates the mood of the movie so well.

"Through the Trees"
Low Shoulder

from Jennifer's Body

LISTEN

The fictional Low Shoulder from the cult hit Jennifer's Body is a real-life band (minus Adam Brody) that now goes by Wildling. "Through the Trees" is typical sounding of slower, more mindful 2000s indie pop/rock, but it is a beautiful song with lyrics that well describe the events of the movie.

"Raven"
Do As Infinity

from Uzumaki

LISTEN

Sometimes songs don't really fit the movie they're tied into. That is true for Uzumaki's closing song "Raven," a catchy alt-rock B-side written and performed by the Japanese band Do As Infinity. The English translated lyrics can be read here.

"Bump in the Night"
Steel Breeze

from Witchboard

LISTEN

One of the more underrated supernatural horror movies from the '80s includes this wonderfully ghoulish heavy metal number.

"Got You (Where I Want You)"
The Flys

from Disturbing Behavior

LISTEN

Some say the '90s was the last era for truly good alternatve music on the radio. That may be true, but at least we have the memories of solid one hit wonders like "Got You (Where I Want You)."

"Things That Go Bump in the Night"
allSTARS*

from I Still Know What You Did Last Summer

LISTEN

So the live-action 2002 Scooby-Doo movie isn't exactly a horror movie, but this teenybopper earworm is too irresistible to not include. Everyone should honor the allSTARS*'s short-lived career by adding this track to their Halloween playlists.

"White"
PinkDolls

from White: Melody of the Curse

LISTEN

If you like modern K-pop, you should know what to expect from this fictional horror pop group's cursed song. Be sure to read a translation of the track's creepy lyrics.

All the ghosts (5) you missed in The Haunting of Hill House

The Haunting of Hill House dropped on Netflix last week, based on a novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson. There are a lot of ghosts that pop up throughout (like in the car, god damn that scene ), but there are some hidden you may not have caught, adding to the show's layers.

The ghost through the railing
ghost.jpg

During the opening of episode 1, a tour is shown of Hill House. Between the railings and look close, you can see one.

A face in the shadows
ghost2.jpg

Later on in the first epi, Mrs. Dudley is giving Steven a lecture about religion when Liv interjects. Look over Liv's shoulder, you can see it. Pazuzu is shook.

The corner of the kitchen
ghost3.jpg

We follow young Theo in probably one of the creepiest episodes of the series, Touch, on her search for a hidden basement. The ghost is a tall woman in black from the back and you can see her hand. Slender Man? I don't know her.

The Bald Man
Haunting-of-Hill-House-Hidden-Bald-Man-ghost.jpg

Poor Theo really gets it this episode. As she passes by the kitcen's open door, you can see a bald man creepin.

In the Wall
ghost5.jpg

In "Eulogy", Hugh discovers a body in the basement. When he leans in for a closer look, you can see a ghost with long white hair lurking behind. Ngl, this is the only ghost I caught watching the whole season smh.

'The View' Talks CBS Interview Where Hillary Clinton Said Bill Didn't Abuse His Power with Lewinsky

– The View talked about an interview with Hillary Clinton on CBS Sunday Morning, where correspondent Tony Dokoupil asked Clinton,"In retrospect, do you think Bill should've resigned in the wake of the Monica Lewinsky scandal?" Clinton said,"Absolutely not." Dokoupil asked, "It wasn't an abuse of power?" Clinton said,"No. No," adding that Lewinsky "was an adult."
– Clinton also said during the interview she played “no role”in undermining the character of the women who came out against her husband. "Let me ask with this: Where's the investigation of the current incumbent, against whom numerous allegations have been made, and which he dismisses denies and ridicules?" The Clintons will soon be deparitng on a nationwide tour where they talk about politics.
– On The View, Abby Huntsman discussed how Hillary continues to handle the blowback since the advent of #MeToo:"“You can’t put yourself on a pedestal and be a leader for the feminist movement and at the same time refuse to acknowledge the reality that you’ve lived with for all these years and stand by your husband. [...] I just don't think she can have it both ways and she continues to try and do that."
– Joy Behar said, “What she just did is exactly what Republicans do: changed the subject. And that’s why we never get anywhere in the discourse.” Joy also said, "To me she's just a victim of his stupidity also. She didn't do anything, he did." Meghan points out that Hillary was involved in covering up accusations at the time, from other women like Gennifer Flowers and Juanita Broaddrick, and called Lewinsky a "narcissistic loony toon", which was recorded on record and released a few years ago to conservative lawyers. Hillary found Bill's infidelity "inexcusable", but credited him for being able to “manage someone who was clearly a ‘narcissistic loony toon."
– Back in 2014, Lewinsky addressed the insult in Vanity Fair,"Yes, I get it. Hillary Clinton wanted it on record that she was lashing out at her husband’s mistress. She may have faulted her husband for being inappropriate, but I find her impulse to blame the Woman—not only me, but herself—troubling. And all too familiar: with every marital indiscretion that finds its way into the public sphere—many of which involve male politicians—it always seems like the woman conveniently takes the fall."
– Sunny Hostin said during the round table,"I don't know, I mean, she's his wife. What did they expect her to say? 'And Monica Lewinsky was an adult, Monica Lewinsky did know the president was married', so you know, I just – she wasn't the one who had the affair, Bill Clinton was the one who had the affair." They generally agree by the end the statemet was bad and Clinton should've addressed the issue.
– In February of this year, Monica Lewinsky wrote an essay for Vanity Fair again about how she feels about what happened to her in the age of #MeToo, writing,"Now, at 44, I’m beginning (just beginning) to consider the implications of the power differentials that were so vast between a president and a White House intern, [...] There are many more women and men whose voices and stories need to be heard before mine. (There are even some people who feel my White House experiences don’t have a place in this movement, as what transpired between Bill Clinton and myself was not sexual assault, although we now recognize that it constituted a gross abuse of power.) And yet, everywhere I have gone for the past few months, I’ve been asked about it. My response has been the same: I am in awe of the sheer courage of the women who have stood up and begun to confront entrenched beliefs and institutions. But as for me, my history, and how I fit in personally? I’m sorry to say I don’t have a definitive answer yet on the meaning of all of the events that led to the 1998 investigation; I am unpacking and reprocessing what happened to me. Over and over and over again."

Monica:"Yes, I get it. Hillary Clinton wanted it on record that she was lashing out at her husband’s mistress. She may have faulted her husband for being inappropriate, but I find her impulse to blame the Woman—not only me, but herself—troubling. And all too familiar: with every marital indiscretion that finds its way into the public sphere—many of which involve male politicians—it always seems like the woman conveniently takes the fall. Sure, the Anthony Weiners and Eliot Spitzers do what they need to do to look humiliated on cable news. They bow out of public life for a while, but they inevitably return, having put it all behind them. The women in these imbroglios return to lives that are not so easily repaired."

I know, I know... Barbra Streisand, but I thought this was actually really powerful. She wrote and directed the lyric video, and it kinda hit me in the gut. I thought the song itself was good (not great, but it worked--how much the video helped, I dunno), really, though, it was the video that I really think was so good.

Ah, screw it, I did like the song!

Oscar Isaac is surprised everyone hates Life Itself

Oscar Issac has spoken out about the reception to ONTD hate-fav Life Itself.

He states that he was surprised there was a full-on critical narrative to the film's reception. He believes its the best work he's ever done, channeling the grief over his mother's death, as well as his marriage and son's birth, all which occurred during production. He also states he isn't fazed by the response and finds it comforting that his opinion of his own work doesn't reflect how people see it.

Dan Fogelman, though, will probably be pressed for life (itself).

Cardi B did an instagram live where she addressed MUA Blacswan who did a video calling Cardi one of the rudest people she's worked for.

In a previous post you can see that the makeup artist alleges Cardi was rude, yelled at her and kicked her out without letting her finish the look.

Cardi responded by slamming the MUA claiming that she showed up late and on drugs and brought people to her room, and she didn't like the look so that's why she was kicked out.

The makeup artist then denied this on her instagram story, and provided text message screenshots showing she was 8 min early and backing up her side of the story as well as denying the drug allegations.

Did Lady Gaga EVER Get A Nose Job? ONTD Investigates 👃🔎

$
0
0

Why are we talking about acclaimed and successful newly-debuted actress Lady Gaga's nose on this fine day when we have more important things to talk about since we LIVE in a SOCIETY? Well, Gaga's film A Star Is Born makes many nods throughout the film regarding Ally's (played by Stefani Germanotta) nose for being too big, and it being a deal breaker for her not succeeding in the music industry.
👃
This story reflects the reality of the actress who has been self conscious about her large nose since her early days, where execs (like in the movie) told her the size of her nose is holding her back. Since some of you did already, what we are not gonna do is address any other things Gaga might've done to her face.
👃
What's so important about this New York Italian Girl's nose? Because people claim it's been hypocritical in how much pride she talked about her nose during this movie campaign after surgery, but the truth is it has not changed at all. Some photos show trickery, #perfectillusions, and mind games, but this is for exposing the real truth and debunking #alternativefacts.

Before vs. "After"

Lady Gaga in 2008 (both photos)

- The ICONIC photoshoot on the right is by photographer Mick Rock, and the side by side comparison has been commonly used to show how different Lady Gaga transformed once her first album was released. Who knows which fanbase got a hold on these photos, but a retouched version of it has been circling around. Anyone with eyes can see the blurry edit on it, while the real photo is below:

Fake clickbait photo on the left.

Real photo.Smudge/liquify tool debunkedt ✅

Now the thing with future EGOT winner Gaga's enigmatic and elusive nose is that it takes many shapes and forms depending on the lighting and angle - it's not just one icon, it's every icon. There are example of old AND newer images showing her nose being more prominent in size than in others:

Images from the previous decade vs. this decade showing less prominent in size

Images from the previous decade vs. this decade showing more prominent in size

Here are selfies circa 2012 and 2017 where PortrudingNosega JUMPED out. By then she would have had countless nose surgery rumors inbetween.

Golden Globe winner: Miss Gaga in 2015 vs 2016.
A simple head tilt and lighting can do wonders where her nose appears less prominent on the left photo than on the right.

Nose height and width stayed consistent, confirmedT. ✅

*Xtina_Glam.mp3 singing voice* Work that nose side to side, get that angle right, right

The next thing people point out is ha classiq BUMP on her ridge. Some websites were lazy to fact check before and after pictures, like the one above, even showing candids in incorrect 'before and after' sequence. However, the bump remained quiet and minded its own business:

Nose bump remained in 2011, 2017, and 2018 - consistent, confirmedT. ✅

Congrats on Gaga for having five number one albums this decade, achieving this feat with A Star is Born soundtrack featuring heart-wrenching cuts like "Before I Cry", "Shallow", and "I'll Never Love Again". #BuyASIBSoundtrackOniTunes

"Stefani u rock" - Elizabeth Grant

So what is the truth?

Gaga on Snapchat last year.

- The ALLEGED nose jobs reported have been inconsistent FROM gossip bloggers and websites.
- Some rumors date back form pre-fame, during fame, or even more recently.
- WITH photo proof and examination throughout the years, the similarities remained, and her schnoz will always be remembered this way.
- Some hater flops will continue to believe Gaga touched up on her nose surgically therefore losing integrity, but for us #truthseekers, we don't wanna hear another lie, don't wanna start another rumor, don't wanna know another fib, baby facts will just stay on your lips.

Young legend Stefani circa 2005-2006 vs. Gaga circa 2014.

What's the consensus ONTD? Does your face have similar enigmatic properties as hers'?
