Candyman's Tony Todd joins the third season of MTV's Scream

There has been a lot of speculation over the future of the Scream franchise after its parent company, Dimension Films/Miramax, was sold off after the Weinstein take down. While a new movie is still up in the air, we can hope the new season of MTV's Scream will hold us off until then.

No word on when the new season will premiere. It was earlier reported the new season will ignore the first two seasons and bring back the famous Ghostface mask.

According to Todd's Instagram, he has joined the new season alongside CJ Wallace, Keke Palmer, Tyler Posey, Tyga and Giorgia Whigham and Mary J. Blige.

Why the Marvel Cinematic Universe feels empty

$

0

Fictional universes and crossovers have been around long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Green Hornet radio show had a crossover with the Lone Ranger that kicked off the trend. In comics, the Marvel Universe started long before Stan Lee was at the helm.

But these crossovers have a problem: They can privilege business relationships ahead of storytelling immersion and really interesting universes. As the Tommy Westphall Universe shows, crossovers often become a map of business decisions rather than of integrated fictional stories, and that leads to worse stories.

This problem plagues the MCU as well. When Marvel engineers crossovers, they aren’t thinking about a universe transformed by superheroes — they just want more quips, explosions, and cash. Or at least that’s Edwards’s argument — do you think the MCU works?

Overrated is a series that takes a look at the things we all know — the books, the trends, and the ideas that have become iconic — and answers the question: “Why is this so famous"?

In the new of issue of New York magazine Nicole Kidman says that being married to a star of Cruise's magnitude was 'protection from being sexually harassed'.

"Being married to Tom Cruise at 22 is something I'm always reluctant to talk about, because I'm married now to the man who is my great love [Keith Urban], and it almost feels disrespectful,""That said, I got married very young, but it definitely wasn't power for me -- it was protection."

"I married for love, but being married to an extremely powerful man kept me from being sexually harassed,""I would work, but I was still very much cocooned. So when I came out of it at 32, 33, it's almost like I had to grow up."

Willem Dafoe Defends His Casting as Vincent Van Gogh: "Today's 70 was yesteryear's 40"

- Willem Dafoe plays the artist Vincent van Gogh in the upcoming biopic At Eternity's Gate, which covers the last two years of van Gogh's life. While Dafoe is currently 63 years old, van Gogh famously died at age 37 - a substantial age gap.
- When Dafoe was asked about the gap, he had this to say: “It’s not a regular biopic, number one. And number two: I was surprised that he was only 37 years old, and then I looked and did some research [on] what the average age of mortality was in France in the late 19th century. 40 years old! Now it’s 70 years old. So without being too cute about it, today’s 70 was yesteryear’s 40.”
- Mentions that van Gogh had a hard life, and 37 then doesn't look like 37 today, especially if one was drinking absinthe everyday.

Do you agree with Dafoe? Is today's 70 yesteryear's 40? (OP disclaimer: He's great + was robbed at last year's Oscars!!)

Oscars: Campaigns Decide Whether to Vie in the Lead or Supporting Acting Categories

$

0

Academy members are free to vote to nominate actors and actresses in whichever category they deem appropriate.
Talent, publicists and distributors can try to steer voters in one direction or another.

Interesting cases :
The Favourite, three actresses — Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz — with similarly-sized parts.
Colman will be the film's sole lead actress competitor, while Stone and Weisz will both go supporting.

Green Book, which stars Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali
Two people from the same film are very rarely both among the final five for best actor.
Ali has opted to go supporting, his character is never seen on screen without Mortensen's.
Mortensen has 16 minutes of additional screen time.

▪ Stephan James of If Beale Street Could Talk, The central performance is KiKi Layne.
James, who plays her character's boyfriend, could've gone supporting. But he is going lead.

Beautiful Boy's Steve Carell and Timothee Chalamet, are arguably co-leads.
Carell has slightly more screen time, and his character arguably drives the movie more.
He is going lead and Chalamet supporting.

▪ Performers this year who are in the running for multiple performances
Emily Blunt, lead actress for Mary Poppins Returns and supporting actress for A Quiet Place.
Nicole Kidman, lead for Destroyer and supporting for Boy Erased.
Lucas Hedges, lead of both Boy Erased and Ben Is Back.

JLC:“As a treat? Meh.”

JLC:“Well then, that’s just cheap.“

*She would then go on to explain that she used to buy her children’s candy back from them for 5 cents a piece. First she would let them pick out their ten favorites to keep but didn’t want that candy sitting around the house.

Red Dead Redemption developers worked 100-hour weeks to get game ready

We are 11 days away from the highly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar Games Dan Houser has talked about its development and the most significant aspect was the mention that the team worked several 100-hour weeks, sparking quite a storm among social media regarding the way video game studios treat their employees. Houser had to clarify that only four people, including himself, worked that long near the end of the game's development and not the entire team. He says that was a choice they made and doesn't ask or expect anyone in his company to work like that.

Rockstar came under fire back in 2010, when employee spouses wrote an open letter decrying working conditions leading up to the release of the first Red Dead Redemption, citing 12-hour work days, no Saturdays off and benefit reductions. Considering Houser mentions this was the hardest game RS ever made and that he did not talk about conditions of the other employees post-clarification, it's probably safe to say 60-80 work weeks were the norm.

Among the other eye-opening things mentioned in the interview:
-- There is no load time in the game. It jumps right to gameplay to cut-scenes.
-- The final script for the game was 2,000 pages. Filming the script required 2,200 days of motion capture with 1,200 actors.
-- The finished game includes 300,000 animations and 500,000 lines of dialogue.
-- Editors made several hundred versions of trailers and television commercials to get it just right.
-- The main story of the game is 60-hours long. No time limit was given regarding side missions and other activities.
-- The game will take up a massive amount of hard drive space: 105GB on the PS4 and 89GB on the XBox.

In a new low, Piers Morgan took to Twitter to mock Daniel Craig for carrying his baby in a 'papoose' (a word I've honestly never heard, but I guess that's on me), calling him 'emasculated' for doing so.

As people replied, Morgan doubled-down on the insults, calling people losers, a shrieking mob, saying men who use baby carriers are being forced into it by their wives, and tweeted at Donald Trump to get his opinion on them. Finally he came to the conclusion that he should be the new Bond:
