NFL Player Tweets Racist Joke And Refuses To Apologize

Arizona defensive end Darnell Dockett, a three-time Pro Bowl selection also known for his Twitter antics, has — so far — refused to apologize for a string of racially insensitive tweets he sent over the weekend.

The first tweet was sent Friday evening:

Soon after that first tweet, Dockett defended it to his followers and defiantly claimed that he wasn’t racist and wouldn’t apologize.

Neither the Cardinals nor Dockett had addressed the tweets as of Monday afternoon. Since Saturday morning, Dockett used his Twitter account to mock NFL reporters who overwhelmingly picked the Cardinals to lose at Seattle on Sunday (Arizona won, 17-10) and to playfully interact with his 161,000 followers.

In the past, Dockett has generated headlines with his Twitter account by tweeting his way through a traffic stop, threatening to attack a former Florida State teammate for implying he was gay, and attempting to woo Katherine Webb, the model and beauty-pageant girlfriend of University of Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron.

47 Ronin is a hit 24 hours before it is released

It would appear that the fortunes of ’47 Ronin’ may be taking a dramatic turn from failure in Japan to triumph in South-east Asia.

According to a new box office report, Keanu Reeves succeeded in drawing audiences to cinema screens to watch ’47 Ronin’. Released on the 19th December in Malasyia and Singapore ’47 Ronin’ outpaced rival films including ‘The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug’, ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ and ‘Walking With Dinosaurs The movie 3D’.

’47 Ronin’ has been deemed a flop on arrival. In fact, some industry pundits have suggested that Universal are already forecasting the loss, and making arrangements to deal with it.

Full analysis : Why critics can’t kill ’47 Ronin’ just yet

However, a recent surge in enthusiasm and excitement from Keanu Reeves fans who have seen the movie in Asia, may help increase demand for the film, which is a hard one to predict at the box office. A majority of the tweets are positive ahead of its release tomorrow.

Can you name the most popular television show set in your state?

Off the top of your head, can you name the most popular TV show ever set in each American state? New York has Seinfeld and New Jersey has The Sopranos, and there are a few other obvious ones. But dig deeper (and head west), and things get a lot tougher. What about Wyoming? Montana? Idaho?

Business Insider aimed to answer the question for every state, with the result being the map below. There’s obviously plenty of objectivity at play here, as BI factored in longevity, audience and critical acclaim (based on IMDB/Metacritic data), awards, and “lasting impact on American culture an television.” They even (valiantly) aimed to not use any reality shows, although Iowa screwed that up.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's newest novel skyrockets in sales thanks to the Beyonce effect

$

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of Beyoncé's BEYONCÉ—beyond its mere existence—was the presence of feminist writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Grafted onto the triumphant "***Flawless" is a sample of a TED talk that Adichie gave in London in April known as "we should all be feminists" in which she speaks about how social expectations of marriage differ for men and women.

For those familiar with Adichie, the sample was as exciting as it was unexpected. But the other group—those hearing Adichie's name and words for the first time—is likely much larger, and it is set of people that has used "***Flawless" as an entryway to her work. On Monday, The Atlantic noted that Adichie's new novel Americanah has shot up the Amazon charts in the wake of BEYONCÉ.

As The Atlantic notes, the book—which was languishing in the thousands on Amazon's main list at the beginning of December—received a boost earlier this month when it was named as one of the New York Times 10 best books of 2013, but the Beyoncé album has helped push it up some 600 or so spots.

It's an impressive feat, considering that, as explained by The Atlantic, it becomes exponentially harder to move up Amazon's overall book as a work continues its rise. Americanah is currently at 212, and figures to keep moving its way up.

Months after location filming completed in Croatia, pictures have surfaced giving viewers a definitive look at season 4′s most anticipated new characters. A gallery of photos turned up yesterday of the filming at the Hotel Belvedere in Dubrovnik, Croatia that took place in September. Among the images are the first confirmed photos of Pedro Pascal as Prince Oberyn, the Red Viper of Dorne, and Indira Varma as Ellaria Sand, the prince’s companion. We’re also provided with a closer view of the show’s version of the sun-and spear sigil of House Martell, first spotted a few months back in distant photos.

In this photo, from behind we see Hafthor Bjornsson as Gregor Clegane and Pedro Pascal as Oberyn Martell.

Gregor and his suspenders are in the middle of the royal seal. Oberyn, Ellaria and Tyrion are to the right of the tree.

This looks like Gregor lying on the ground. (click for full size image)

At a recent auction, Hiddleston's size 11 blue Converse sneakers sold for £4,500 (about $7300), after garnering more than 100 bids. And you bet it was all for a good cause:

The Small Steps Project in Archway put 120 pairs of the celebrities' shoes under the hammer last week to give the public the chance to walk like their favourite stars, while raising funds to support families who live on rubbish dumps in developing countries.

No word on whether these particular shoes were used by Hiddles for any dancing sessions or epic dance-offs.

Coming in second place at the auction with a not too shabby £3,705 (roughly $6000) was a pair of signed Reebok's donated by Mick Jagger. One Direction 'wary of Kendall'

One Direction have reportedly accused Kendall Jenner of using Harry Styles.
The One Direction boys are reportedly angry with Kendall Jenner for taking Harry Styles away from them.
The British boyband are apparently unhappy with the way Harry rushes off to see the American reality TV star.
It's been claimed that Harry ditched his bandmates on a recent trip to France to fly to London as Kendall was in the British capital for a visit.

"She flew over and surprised him and Harry visited her at a hotel. They're accusing her of using Harry to land London-based modelling gigs," a source told heatworld.com.
"Kendall has already told Harry that she wants to move part-time to London to make a go in the fashion world, modelling and designing."
The band are also said to fear a similar situation as happened when 19-year-old Harry dated Taylor Swift, reports the site.
The high-profile relationship caused a media furore, with attention being diverted away from the music One Direction were producing.
But undeterred Kendall, 18, is alleged to have asked Harry to appear on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the TV programme that follows her and her family.
"Kendall's already asked him to appear on her family's reality show, which his family, friends and bandmates are urging him against," the source added.
Harry doesn't seem to be too fazed by his friends' reservations though, and is busy getting ready to enjoy the festive period.
He took to his Twitter account yesterday to wish his fans a happy holidays.
"I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas. Thank you for everything. I'm going to sleep for a while. Wake me up for dinner please. H .xx," he tweeted to his 18.3million followers.

Lost Girl 407 Q&A: Showrunner Emily Andras on “La Fae Époque”

Sunday's flashback of an episode inspires talk of Bo and Lauren's past and future together, Dyson's manhood, Zoie Palmer's singing voice and next week's Tamsin-tinged holiday treat!

Emily Gagne, December 22, 2013 11:00:17 PM

Talk about a blast from the past! That’s what we’re doing with this week’s Lost Girl Talk, as Emily Andras (the Lost Girl showrunner) and Emily Gagne (the TV Guide Canada writer) memorialize this Sunday’s episode, the time travelganza that was “La Fae Époque.”

A lot went down in this episode — a semi Bo/Dyson/Lauren threesome, Kenzi with blonde hair and angel wings, Zoie Palmer singing!— so let’s put on our “hell shoes” and get to moving!

TV Guide Canada: First off, a great episode. Perhaps my favourite since the premiere, “In Memoriam”! I just want to know how the cast reacted when you told them the concept of the episode, and that they’d be playing off-the-wall, ancient version of themselves.
EA: Obviously I have a slight reputation as a bit a troll, and the cast is not immune to being ‘Andrased,’ as I sometimes call it. So ever since the second season when they had to do the body swap episode, every year they sort of know that the writers have one, spectacular, insane, ambitious, high-comedy episodes in our back pockets. They brace themselves, but they’re still shocked, which I love.

I loved saying, ‘OK, Anna, you have to play Dyson.’ And then ‘Ksenia, we’re going to dress you as this bombshell kind of French courtesan/bartender.’ And then Paul Amos was just like, ‘What else you got’? (He arrived with a variety of accents to try and he loved it.) And then Zoie, it was like, ‘It’s all on you, baby! You’re going to be this sexy, Moulin Rouge type character with a French accent and the whole deal. And I need you to sing.’

I’ve had the privilege of working with Zoie on three different shows and I actually worked with her on Instant Star, the show a long time ago where she played this rocker character Patsy Sewer, who was named after my lovely aunt, one of my mentors. So, I knew Zoie could sing, but it’s been a while and it was such a departure from Lauren. But she was really game.

We actually filmed her big scene late at night — it ended up being 2 or 3 a.m. the way the schedule went — so she had all day to kind of worry about it. But she’s such a pro and just little things happened that were amazing. We were all on set to support her, but we tried to stay out of her way. Anna did a really decent thing — she made sure to be on set the whole time Zoie was performing. Sometimes when you go for someone’s close-up, you send someone else off to get make-up, but Anna was like, ‘No, I want to be in Zoie’s eyeline and be there for her!’ It just kind of spoke to how supportive everyone was.

(x)
We had a director who we’ve used a lot, Steve DiMarco, who was really supportive of the cast too. But I was really just proud of everybody. Even Kris I thought was great. Like when he had to do the scenes in the reflections. And obviously, Rick was amazing [as] Trick. He had actually secretly been training with a bo staff with our stunt guys for a few months and hadn’t really told anyone. So, our lovely stunt coordinator, Paul Rapovski, brought in this video of Rick training and he was genuinely so good. That just gave this element to Trick that we were really excited about. He’s obviously got these secret talents up his sleeve.

(x)
TVG: You sort touched on the Kris stuff briefly, but he just looked so good this episode! Whether he was wearing the white pajamas or hiding his junk behind a gargoyle or doing the Bo reflection thing, he was rockin’ it!
EA: He was really good! And he was so game. He’s so gracious too.

Even though it was sort of Dyson’s story, it’s true that he sort of took a backseat. But he was there to guide Anna, as he was with Ksenia in “Original Skin,” about how he might play something. You know, just to give her some help with the physicality as the wolf and as Dyson.

And you know, hiding your junk behind a gargoyle is the new black. So, Merry Christmas, Dyson fans! For a certain price I can give you the outtakes! Maybe they weren’t so well-hidden…. [Laughs]

(x)

TVG: I’m guessing it was a flesh sock situation.
EA: No comment! [Laughs]

But some of our actors are shier than others. Some of them have no problem just rockin’ it as nature intended!

TVG: Will we get to see Kenzi back in that sexy angel ensemble? Because you did hint that Dyson gave the other hell shoe to that character.
EA: That’s going to be part of the trick if we ever go that route. Because when Bo went into Dyson’s memory, she saw the angel as Kenzi. She brought the familiar to Dyson’s memory. But if we meet the real angel, she’s not necessarily going to look exactly like Kenzi. If she’s still living or whatever.

That is to say, we thought Ksenia looked so beautiful in that outfit. And I loved her make-up. I just think she’s such a chameleon — we’ve tried some different looks on Kenzi, on Ksenia, this year and she just looks so gorgeous. I have quite a beautiful picture I sent her of herself lying on the bar. She was really shy about it, but I was like, ‘This is your Christmas card! Please put this up!’ [Laughs]

TVG: It sounds like everyone was a bit nervous going into this episode
EA: They were. But I think it’s good to be nervous. I think it’s good to remember that feeling of fear. As a writer, actor, whatever, it’s good to challenge yourself versus it just being static. I think that’s why people really love working on the show — every week it’s something new, something fresh, something unexpected.

TVG: Speaking of the unexpected, we got the first Zoie/Kris sex scene and then we got the first on-screen Zoie/Anna sex scene of the season all at once! How was it conceptualizing that scene? I just loved when she looked in the mirror and sees Dyson!
EA: It was really fun! I mean, I’m sure a lot of people are screaming now, ‘That’ll be the last Zoie/Kris sex scene we ever see!’ I hear you, babies. I hear ya!

We just really thought it was a funny nod to the threesome, but very carefully done. We knew it was going to take some really heavy coordination with the mirror. But one thing that’s really amazing is that Kris and Zoie have worked together on multiple projects and they’ve actually played lovers before. So, they’re actually the biggest goofballs and really comfortable with each other — as comfortable as Anna and Zoie are, or Anna and Kris.

The three of them had a lot of fun coordinating it. Kris was kind of teasing Anna about how to do the thrusting. [Laughs] And then I think he improvised the line, ‘I guess this happening,’ and then Anna did it, which was great. And again, I have to say there were some really hilarious outtakes. I’m kinda sad we had to lose for time because there were a couple where Zoie had her head down low and then her head kept popping up everytime she said, ‘Who is it?’ It was just so hilarious to me!

(x)(x)
TVG: On a more serious note, there was a lot of subtext to be had in the scenes between Bo as Dyson and Flora in terms of Lauren and Bo’s relationship. How much should we read into Flora’s dying words, “I have a feeling your love is left to come”?
EA: Well, she was technically speaking to Dyson as Flora. And I think we know that Dyson has implied that he only has ever loved Bo. I think there’s potential for that to change, obviously, but I think that’s something that Dyson has convinced himself is impossible for him. But as he’s learning to challenge rules and the way things are done, there’s lots of different ways for you to love somebody.

But it was supposed to be very subtextual about Bo and Lauren. And one of the things I loved was when Michael Grassi, the writer of the episode, and I were talking about it, we said. ‘It would be awesome to have an excuse for Anna and Zoie to have a fight scene.’ We thought, ‘That’s the promo for sure!’ And Zoie’s very physical — she’s done Nikita and stuff like that — so it was fun to highlight that stuff.

So, I guess when Flora says that it can mean all sorts of things. It is interesting that she says it to Bo as Lauren. Let me say it was a deliberate choice. There are many, many different ways to take that statement going forward.

TVG: I want to talk about the hell shoes for a second. Are they the travelling pants of the Fae world? Is it a one size fits all thing?
EA: [Laughs] They ARE the travelling pants of the Fae world!

They’re like Cinderella’s slipper. They’re only going to fit Cinderella’s dainty, dainty foot. They kind of shrink to fit, but the point is, if you’re not the person that’s intended to wear the hell shoes, if you’re not the true hero, obviously they bring out the darkest parts of yourself. We’ve all bought shoes like that, to be honest. You know, where they look good in the store, but you go to the party and you’re dying and crying but you can’t wear flip-flops?

Yeah, I think they are kind of the travelling pants of the Fae world. With slightly more hellish tendencies.

TVG: I imagine we’ll see a lot more of them as the season goes on?
EA: Maybe! We have a lot for Bo to do and some really interesting twists and turns….

TVG: What about this Red String of Fate? It seems like it could be a really handy tool for the future.
EA: It could be a really handy tool! But everybody was yanking them off left, right and centre!

The Red String of Destiny, or Red String of Fate, is actually very common in Chinese culture. There’s lots of literature written about it and about meeting someone as a young person who is destined to be your partner and whatnot. There are really fabulous mythological stories about it if you’re bored over the holidays and want to read some good stuff. [Laughs]

But I would say, yeah, it’s very handy. But, like all things Lost Girl, there are so many times we come up with a device, or a Fae, that’s so amazing — I’m still waiting for my Brownie to arrive and clean up grease off my stove! — and there’s always potential to bring these things back. That being said, I think it was implied that Lauren had gotten it from the Dark Fae archives. Is there a whole room of Red Strings of Destiny? Did she just take three? Who can say….

TVG: Next week we get our last Lost Girl episode of 2013 before a brief, one-week hiatus. Which section of fans will it be the biggest Christmas treat for?
EA: Uh, VAL-KU-BUS. Tamsin fans.

But, I think there is a little stocking stuffer for every portion of the Lost Girl fandom. I feel like there’s some fun Lauren stuff and some fun Dyson stuff. And Vex makes a reappearance. And Kenzi and Hale have an interesting storyline. And Bo is super fun. She has a super fun journey.

TVG: Do you have any plans to do more flashbacks with Dyson and Trick and them developing the colony?
EA: I would love that! There are so many characters whose flashbacks I’d love to see!

I had a really funny idea for one the other day about The Morrigan. I think lots of these characters have interesting pasts — even Lauren, even Kenzi — and it’s always an opportunity to explore the characters we know and love. If Showcase wants to fly me to France so we can continue to do flashbacks, that would be amazing. But we can always make it work [here]. [Laughs]

TVG: Finally, is there any way fans can download the song Lauren sang?
EA: I believe we will be posting it on iTunes. I will do my darndest to make it happen!

The 10 (5) Worst Christmas Movies of All Time

$
0
0

As you watch "A Christmas Story" for the 800th time in a row and begin to wonder if there’s anything else on, let me give you a warning: there are some treacherous paths out there.

Sure you could get lucky and find "Elf" or "Home Alone 2" on TNT, but be careful, some of the worst movies you’ll ever see are disguised as fun, holiday cheer for the whole family. To keep you safe, here are the ten worst Christmas movies ever made.

Christmas with the Kranks

Year of Release: 2004

Who’s in It: Tim Allen, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Dan Aykroyd

Why It’s So Bad: Wacky Tim Allen is at his worst as he and Jamie Lee Curtis bumble around for 90 minutes while getting into some of the most dull and boring hijinks you’ve ever seen. It’s so unrealistic and stupid your eyes will be rolled back more than The Undertaker during the ‘90s.

Black Christmas

Year of Release: 2006

Who’s in It: Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Lacey Chabert

Why It’s So Bad: The original version of the movie is campy and fun. This one abandons all of that in exchange for a mundane cookie cutter slasher film that floods you with so much back story you’ll cheer for the killer to finish everyone off just so the movie can be over.

Santa with Muscles

Year of Release: 1996

Who’s in It: Hulk Hogan

Why It’s So Bad: The movie made a total of $198,000 at the box office so to say it bombed is a sever understatement. Basically the Hulkster is a millionaire and a total jerk, but after getting amnesia he thinks he’s Santa Claus. The story is so bad and was rewritten so many times, the original writer sued to get his name taken off the credits.

Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House

Year of Release: 2002

Who’s in It: French Stewart and NONE OF THE ORIGINAL CAST

Why It’s So Bad: Instead of just going with a new story and new characters, the studio thought no one would notice a horrible new cast that includes a Kevin McCallister that’s younger than he was in Home Alone 2! Get out of my face with this nonsense.

Jack Frost

Year of Release: 1997

Who’s in It: Scott Macdonald (hey, no mention of Shannon Elizabeth?)

Why It’s So Bad: Do not get confused and buy this one for your kids instead of the Michael Keaton film. This one is about a serial killer who is killed and then somehow comes back as a snowman. I’m no doctor but the odds of that seem somewhat unlikely.
