The last funeral service for Senator John McCain was held today at the National Cathedral in Washington DC. He will be buried at the Naval Academy in Annapolis MD on Sunday.
In case you watch these national events out of curiosity, or for the pomp and circumstance, or maybe you hate-watched, here’s a rundown
Celebrity ReactionsFunnySummaryNearly every speaker (minus poems or readings) dropped truth b0mbs on Tr/mp and his admin without saying any names.
…
Meghan McCain -her makeup held up well because she alternately sobbed-talked-shouted through her emotional remarks that included scathing references to Tr/mp. She said a lot of words.
…
Joe Lieberman -I wonder how our country would be different if we had Gore/Lieberman in 2000, anyway he told some anecdotes about their friendship
…
Kissinger -(yes he is still alive) hmmm what to say well he spoke coherently
…
Bush 43 -has never been considered a good orator but given the comparison to Mr Google Word Salad Non Sequitors he can now enjoy no longer being the worst, and his remarks included Tr/mp references
…
Obama -always a great speaker (a bit rusty tho), full of grace and dignity, and he targeted Tr/mp
VP Pence wasn’t invited. He only gave remarks at the Capital because VP is Head of Senate. The Cabinet was represented by Chief of Staff
John Kelly, SecDef
Jim Mattis, DNI
Dan Coats, NSA
John Bolton. For inexplicable reasons,
Jarvanka were there, with the only silver lining that they were forced to sit through the multiple speaker remarks that trashed Tr/mp. [Edit
Lindsey Graham invited Jarvanka on Friday, despite McCain obviously not inviting them]
Icymi Mr Pouty Mcfussypants angry-tweeted about DOJ and NAFTA and then went golfing just as Meghan (who was first to speak) was wrapping up her remarks.
In attendance were the last 3 POTUS and the last 3 VPOTUS –
Obamas, Bush43s, Clintons, Cheneys, Gore. Biden sat with the pallbearers, some of
Nixon’s family was on the second row (icymi a Nixon daughter married an Eisenhower son /fun fact/ and one of their children attended),
Bob Dole (looking very skeletal),
Jay Leno, Warren Beatty (pallbearer)
Some of the musical performances were The Navy Hymn, My Country Tis of Thee, Battle Hymn of the Republic, The Lord is My Shepherd, How Great Thou Art, Danny Boy (Renee Fleming)
