#YourFavShowIsProblematic: Friends edition.

$

In regards to LGBT representation.

Key points of the article:

Susan & Carol's arc. Their plotline was to make Ross emasculated (lol) and to reinforce homophobic (or this case, lesbophobic) stereotypes. The author points out one moment where Ross reflects he should've known Carol was gay because she drank beer from the can.

Another point is Chandler's father, who is a drag queen. However, the article notes if the character had been openly a trans woman, she would've been a walking punchline. In the episode itself, called "The One With Chandler’s Dad,” the author points out that "they’re waited on by a visibly trans waitress played by Alexis Arquette — who doesn’t appear fond of Monica’s cutesy bumbling over her pronouns."
(The dad is already treated as a walking punchline as a drag queen, tho? I guess I'd recommend reading the whole article and seeing what you think.)

Smaller points are when Joey enjoys wearing women's underwear and is told by Phoebe to repress this, and Ross having a female identity called "Bea" as a child, to which he is also mocked for. Hmmm...

The author concludes: "Friends is a terrible show about cruel people who tear others down because of their perceived queerness, and its legacy will be forever tainted as a result."

Is this ok, mods?
Opinions? Thoughts? When I watched Friends as a young kid, Carol's whole storyline and how Ross treated her always left me feeling strange. Now as an adult does it occur to me how messed up it was.

Pharell Williams teams up with Camilla Cabello on their Spanglish & salsa inspired new release, “Sangria Wine.”

• Camila sings: “Yo sé, yo sé, yo sé, yo sé que tú quieres mi cuerpo, eh / Y quieres controlar mi mente, eh / Y todo el mundo quiere ser dueño de ella / Pero nadie puede, ¡ay!”

• Meanwhile Pharrell gives clear instructions for the dance floor: “Moving side to side / Front and behind / Sangria wine / Sangria wine / Sangria wine / Do the sangria wine”

• It is unclear if this is a stand alone single, the first single for a new Pharrell Williams album, or if this will be on a re-release for Camila.

Grey's Anatomy - How did Arizona and April leave + finale recap

April quit her job at the hospital to do "god's work", after coming thisclose to death.
Arizona moved to New York so that Sophia can have both her moms in the same city. Callie is now single so they may try to start things back up.

Now to the episode:
An hour before the wedding was to take place: Jo got the news that she got a fellowship at Mass Gen hospital in Boston, meaning Alex would move their too. This left Meredith in a tizzy as she didn't want Alex to "leave her to". So she offered Jo a better job in the hospital to make her stay. At the end of the episode, she told Jo that was selfish of her, and she should take the other job.
Meanwhile, Jo and Alex's wedding went to crap after the wedding planner had an allergic reaction and collapsed and a cricothyrotomy had to be performed on her at the scene. As all the guests went aboard the ferry to get back to the city, Maggie suggested that Mer get ordained online and perform the wedding on the ferry so she did.
Meanwhile, at the scene of the fiasco wedding, Matthew (yes, the guy she left at the alter for Jackson) proposed to April just as the minister (who was late) arrived and those two got married right there and then.

Also, Teddy showed up at the hospital unannounced asking for a job from Bailey. As Bailey realized that she hasn't really changed her lifestyle after he heart attack, she offered Teddy the position of interim chief. At the end of the episode, we find out that Teddy is PREGNANT, just as Amelia and Owen realized earlier in the episode that they might be having feeling for each other again while they have been playing house with a baby and her addict teen mom they have been trying to help.

Jocelyn "Catwoman" Wildenstein, former billionaire, is filing for federal chapter 11 bankruptcy. The former socialite obsessed with plastic surgery to give herself feline features has a bank account balance of "$0" at Citibank.

Ms WIldenstein is currently living off of nothing but social security of $900 a month and relies on family and friends for misc expenses. Even though she's broke, she is still in possession of pricey real estate in the Tru*p Tower of $11.75 million, but owes 4.6 for the foreclosure and $25,000 in unpaid property taxes.

Jocelyn is filing to protect and "reorganize her finances" as she's in heavy debt and some assets are worth less than she owes. Getting out of bankruptcy is possible if she gets the $4.5 million from her divorce to the late billionaire, Alec Wildenstein.

“She is a very nice lady but she is very gullible. She has been taken by everyone,” says source close to her. Jocelyn's also been involved in lawsuits and credit card debt.

Gaspar Noé Explains His Hatred for ‘Black Panther’

He hates “Black Panther.”
He is more attracted to documentaries than he is to “comedies, action movies, science-fiction movies.”

“I tried ‘Black Panther.’ I escaped from the cinema after 20 minutes. I thought it was as bad as ‘Star Wars.’ I hated ‘Star Wars.’ I hated the R&B music in “Black Panther”. The music was so bad that I had to escape. But you know which one I like? What’s the name of the Denis Villeneuve movie? ‘Arrival.’ That one was good.”

Arrested Development’ Creator Defends Keeping Jeffrey Tambor in Season 5

“Arrested Development” creator Mitch Hurwitz is standing by Jeffrey Tambor.

“Jeffrey has never evinced that kind of behavior. Am I going to cut Jeffrey out of the show, based on allegations that he disputes, that Amazon hasn’t shared, and that we have never experienced any complains about? No, of course I am not going to. I’m going to support Jeffrey. We were done shooting, so there was no version of cutting him out of the show, or there would be no show.”

Tambor’s co-stars Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Tony Hale share similar thoughts as Hurwitz.

Jessica Walter is still “privately processing” her feelings about the way she was “treated by Tambor".
She “never saw anything from him that crossed the line” in terms of sexual harassment.
“I have great empathy for the courage of people who feel they have been harassed in any form speaking out—and sympathy for people who have been unjustly accused. It’s a very difficult situation for everyone involved.”

Jason Fry, the author of the TLJ novelization, was discussing his writing of Rose with fans who didn't like the "jealous of Rey" angle that was much more obvious in the book than it was in the film. One reply of his wrt Finn focusing on Rey in TFA was twisted by shippers of you-know-what into "Finn is a creepy obsessive stalker that does not respect Rey's boundaries #confirmed" which in turn got other ppl on the defensive, leading to this "fandom was a mistake" moment.

New Music Friday is here, and with it I present new music videos for your listening and viewing pleasure. So sit back, relax, and let me walk you through some visuals and moods.
This is a follow-up to this post.
Spoiler: its all going to be pretty mellow.

I have a fear of snakes but for Gallant's gorgeous MV I tolerated this. The production quality is amazing and this is a legit low-key bop.

I love space-scapes. The visuals are amazing.

I posted this in the comments in the last post but its just too gorgeous to be left in there alone.

This literally just came out and I watched it like 5 minutes ago and I love it despite Donald Glover being in it.

This is just a bop.

Repping the desis! Yaaas.

The new album is out now.

Its hot today and some of the locations in this MV cool me down. Lol.

Its mellow.

The colours in this. A+

Her eyes creep me out.

God, I love this song.

Here is the YT playlist.

What emerges is a deeply human trip to the foundations of discovery and a powerful reminder that the unanswered questions are the most crucial ones to pose.
What you should know: The film was made possible by a grant from Science Sandbox, a Simons Foundation initiative dedicated to engaging everyone with the process of science.
Opens in: NYC

School shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas
At least 10 confirmed fatalities, at least 12 injured, including one officer
Suspect arrested and a second person was detained

>>> Shooter has been identified as 17 yr old Dimitrios Pagourtzis
Beware of fake social media accounts from both sides. Example, a new fb has his profile photo wearing a Hillary 2016 cap, and a cover photo with Anti Fasciste. Photo uploaded @ 145PM NY time, so obviously not the real person. A fake twitter account with Nazi references has been taken down.

Third school shooting in the last seven days
Santa Fe TX is 20 miles from Galveston and 30 miles from Houston; the school has ~1400 students
Related: This is the last day of school for Parkland students

The shooter is a student who was armed with an AR-15 style assault rifle, a shotgun and a pistol. Pipe bombs also found.
Suspect walked into an art class and began shooting
Students heard fire alarm, possibly pulled by suspect to get access to more students exiting the building
