To everyone's surprise, George R.R. Martin confirmed that the sixth book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, 'The Winds of Winter', will not be released this year. Instead, y'all can have some bullshit called 'Fire and Blood', some historic story about the Targaryens (out in November).

At any rate, the final season of 'Game of Thrones' will air in early 2019 so we'll get closure of some sort.

Proud father of three and lifelong welfare recipient Prince William has opinions on Africa:

"In my lifetime we have seen global wildlife populations decline by over half. Africa’s rapidly growing human population is predicted to more than double by 2050 — a staggering increase of three and a half million people per month. There is no question that this increase puts wildlife and habitat under enormous pressure."

Fun facts:

Population density of Great Britain: 302 per km² / 782 mi²
Population density of Africa: 36 per km² / 94 mi²

Africa is also considered the richest continent in terms of natural resources. It has 57% of the world’s cobalt, 47% of its diamonds, 49% of its manganese, 31% of its phosphate,21% of its gold and 8% of the world's natural gas reserves. In addition, 45 of the 54 African countries have oil reserves.

Prince-Harry-Nazi-dress-up

In Prince Harry's defense, he was just a wee boy of 20 when he decided it would be fun to dress up as a member of an authoritarian and genocidal regime. Who among us hasn't ever been invited to a colonial-themed party and came as a member of the Nazi's Afrika Korps? Man, fashion can be tricky.

"I'm very sorry if I have caused any offense," the prince said in a statement."It was a poor choice of costume, and I apologize."

Phew! Crisis averted! If that statement doesn't ooze sincere regret, I don't know what does. If only Prince Harry had taken fashion cues from his brother, who came in a tasteful outfit representing lions and leopards.

Another folly of youth: Prince Harry called an Asian soldier "our little P*ki friend" and described another officer cadet as a "r*g-head".

Eight books written by journalists

Below are eight books written by journalists about politics, history, Trump, conservative dark money, and war.

War on Peace: The End of Diplomacy and the Decline of American Influence - Ronan Farrow

US foreign policy is undergoing a dire transformation, forever changing America’s place in the world. Institutions of diplomacy and development are bleeding out after deep budget cuts; the diplomats who make America’s deals and protect its citizens around the world are walking out in droves. Offices across the State Department sit empty, while abroad the military-industrial complex has assumed the work once undertaken by peacemakers. We’re becoming a nation that shoots first and asks questions later.

In an astonishing journey from the corridors of power in Washington, DC, to some of the most remote and dangerous places on earth—Afghanistan, Somalia, and North Korea among them—acclaimed investigative journalist Ronan Farrow illuminates one of the most consequential and poorly understood changes in American history. His firsthand experience as a former State Department official affords a personal look at some of the last standard bearers of traditional statecraft, including Richard Holbrooke, who made peace in Bosnia and died while trying to do so in Afghanistan.

Drawing on newly unearthed documents, and richly informed by rare interviews with warlords, whistle-blowers, and policymakers—including every living former secretary of state from Henry Kissinger to Hillary Clinton to Rex Tillerson—War on Peace makes a powerful case for an endangered profession. Diplomacy, Farrow argues, has declined after decades of political cowardice, shortsightedness, and outright malice—but it may just offer America a way out of a world at war.

A Colony in a Nation - Chris Hayes

In A Colony in a Nation, New York Times best-selling author and Emmy Award–winning news anchor Chris Hayes upends the national conversation on policing and democracy. Drawing on wide-ranging historical, social, and political analysis, as well as deeply personal experiences with law enforcement, Hayes contends that our country has fractured in two: the Colony and the Nation. In the Nation, the law is venerated. In the Colony, fear and order undermine civil rights. With great empathy, Hayes seeks to understand this systemic divide, examining its ties to racial inequality, the omnipresent threat of guns, and the dangerous and unfortunate results of choices made by fear.

Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power - Rachel Maddow

Written with bracing wit and intelligence, Rachel Maddow's Drift argues that we've drifted away from America's original ideals and become a nation weirdly at peace with perpetual war. To understand how we've arrived at such a dangerous place, Maddow takes us from the Vietnam War to today's war in Afghanistan, along the way exploring Reagan's radical presidency, the disturbing rise of executive authority, the gradual outsourcing of our war-making capabilities to private companies, the plummeting percentage of American families whose children fight our constant wars for us, and even the changing fortunes of G.I. Joe. Ultimately, she shows us just how much we stand to lose by allowing the scope of American military power to overpower our political discourse.

Sensible yet provocative, dead serious yet seriously funny, Drift will reinvigorate a "loud and jangly" political debate about our vast and confounding national security state.

Playing with Fire: The 1968 Election and the Transformation of American Politics - Lawrence O’Donnell

The 1968 U.S. Presidential election was the young Lawrence O’Donnell’s political awakening, and in the decades since it has remained one of his abiding fascinations. For years he has deployed one of America’s shrewdest political minds to understanding its dynamics, not just because it is fascinating in itself, but because in it is contained the essence of what makes America different, and how we got to where we are now. Playing With Fire represents O’Donnell’s master class in American electioneering, embedded in the epic human drama of a system, and a country, coming apart at the seams in real time.

Nothing went according to the script. LBJ was confident he'd dispatch with Nixon, the GOP frontrunner; Johnson's greatest fear and real nemesis was RFK. But Kennedy and his team, despite their loathing of the president, weren't prepared to challenge their own party’s incumbent. Then, out of nowhere, Eugene McCarthy shocked everyone with his disloyalty and threw his hat in the ring to run against the president and the Vietnam War. A revolution seemed to be taking place, and LBJ, humiliated and bitter, began to look mortal. Then RFK leapt in, LBJ dropped out, and all hell broke loose. Two assassinations and a week of bloody riots in Chicago around the Democratic Convention later, and the old Democratic Party was a smoldering ruin, and, in the last triumph of old machine politics, Hubert Humphrey stood alone in the wreckage.

Suddenly Nixon was the frontrunner, having masterfully maintained a smooth façade behind which he feverishly held his party’s right and left wings in the fold, through a succession of ruthless maneuvers to see off George Romney, Nelson Rockefeller, Ronald Reagan, and the great outside threat to his new Southern Strategy, the arch-segregationist George Wallace. But then, amazingly, Humphrey began to close, and so, in late October, Nixon pulled off one of the greatest dirty tricks in American political history, an act that may well meet the statutory definition of treason. The tone was set for Watergate and all else that was to follow, all the way through to today.

Unbelievable: My Front-Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History - Katy Tur

Called "disgraceful,""third-rate," and "not nice" by Donald Trump, NBC News correspondent Katy Tur reported on—and took flak from—the most captivating and volatile presidential candidate in American history.

Katy Tur lived out of a suitcase for a year and a half, following Trump around the country, powered by packets of peanut butter and kept clean with dry shampoo. She visited forty states with the candidate, made more than 3,800 live television reports, and tried to endure a gazillion loops of Elton John’s "Tiny Dancer"—a Trump rally playlist staple.

From day 1 to day 500, Tur documented Trump’s inconsistencies, fact-checked his falsities, and called him out on his lies. In return, Trump repeatedly singled Tur out. He tried to charm her, intimidate her, and shame her. At one point, he got a crowd so riled up against Tur, Secret Service agents had to walk her to her car.

None of it worked. Facts are stubborn. So was Tur. She was part of the first women-led politics team in the history of network news. The Boys on the Bus became the Girls on the Plane. But the circus remained. Through all the long nights, wild scoops, naked chauvinism, dodgy staffers, and fevered debates, no one had a better view than Tur.

Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin's War on America and the Election of Donald Trump - Michael Isikoff

RUSSIAN ROULETTE is a story of political skullduggery unprecedented in American history. It weaves together tales of international intrigue, cyber espionage, and superpower rivalry. After U.S.-Russia relations soured, as Vladimir Putin moved to reassert Russian strength on the global stage, Moscow trained its best hackers and trolls on U.S. political targets and exploited WikiLeaks to disseminate information that could affect the 2016 election.

The Russians were wildly successful and the great break-in of 2016 was no "third-rate burglary." It was far more sophisticated and sinister -- a brazen act of political espionage designed to interfere with American democracy. At the end of the day, Trump, the candidate who pursued business deals in Russia, won. And millions of Americans were left wondering, what the hell happened? This story of high-tech spying and multiple political feuds is told against the backdrop of Trump's strange relationship with Putin and the curious ties between members of his inner circle -- including Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn -- and Russia.

Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right - Jane Mayer

Who are the immensely wealthy right-wing ideologues shaping the fate of America today? From the bestselling author of The Dark Side, an electrifying work of investigative journalism that uncovers the agenda of this powerful group.

Why is America living in an age of profound and widening economic inequality? Why have even modest attempts to address climate change been defeated again and again? Why do hedge-fund billionaires pay a far lower tax rate than middle-class workers? In a riveting and indelible feat of reporting, Jane Mayer illuminates the history of an elite cadre of plutocrats—headed by the Kochs, the Scaifes, the Olins, and the Bradleys—who have bankrolled a systematic plan to fundamentally alter the American political system. Mayer traces a byzantine trail of billions of dollars spent by the network, revealing a staggering conglomeration of think tanks, academic institutions, media groups, courthouses, and government allies that have fallen under their sphere of influence. Drawing from hundreds of exclusive interviews, as well as extensive scrutiny of public records, private papers, and court proceedings, Mayer provides vivid portraits of the secretive figures behind the new American oligarchy and a searing look at the carefully concealed agendas steering the nation. Dark Money is an essential book for anyone who cares about the future of American democracy.

Under Fire: Reporting from the Front Lines of the Trump White House - April Ryan (Coming September 1st)

Veteran White House reporter April Ryan thought she had seen everything in her two decades as a White House correspondent. And then came the Trump administration. In Under Fire, Ryan takes us inside the confusion and chaos of the Trump White House to understand how she and other reporters adjusted to the new normal. With the world on edge and a country grappling with a new controversy almost daily, Ryan gives readers a glimpse into current events from her perspective, not only from inside the briefing room but also as a target of those who want to avoid answering probing questions. The 2017 New York Times expose on NXIVM, the sex cult led by Keith Raniere and actress Allison Mack, has been optioned by Annapurna Television for development into a one-hour scripted television series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Westworld actress Shannon Woodward will be an executive producer (it's unknown whether or not she'll also star). Annapurna's description says the show will follow what happens to women who join a secret sisterhood that they are told is for the empowerment of women, only to find themselves manipulated and sexually enslaved by its leader - and have their flesh branded with his initials.

Mack and Raniere are both currently facing charges of sex trafficking and forced labor for enticing women into NXIVM with promises of an empowering women's group, only to manipulate and blackmail them into sex slavery and brand them with a combination of Raniere and Mack's initials.

(ONTD Original) Plastic Fantastic: Pop Girls Who Got A Little Work Done

🔪

No, your faves are not doing lip squats to get plumper lips, or drinking dieters tea for a sunken cheek look. They booked an appointment at a cosmetic surgery facility *ahem Epione* to mess with their face. I've seen so many fans wanting to deny "plastic surgery" as if there aren't non-surgical procedures that are common, and most of this list includes injectable fillers.

👃

If you haven't noticed earlier this week I've been #displaying#questionable photos of certain artists and sparked the curiosity of what they've done, recognizing something looks 'off' but cannot point it out. That's where you come in to help crack down the code in our #discussion.

💉

OP's Note: This post is not to shame or degrade anyone who chooses to get plastic/cosmetic surgery. *blah beauty is relative, do what makes you happy, cultures always altered appearances for beauty, etc. blah*

👄

Most of this is all inferences I took from scouring insights across cosmetic procedural forums, so obviously we're not gonna have the actual tea. Some celebs might want to shy away from admitting to altering their appearance and it's totally their bidnezz, so we'll note if any of them addressed their changes. With that said for legal reasons, our pop girls *ALLEGEDLY* did the following -

6. Lana Del Rey

Before/Then:

After/Now:

📝 Speculative Report:
- Procedures circa 2011
- Lip injections: we all probably took notice since the viral "Video Games" when she was doing her pouty singing. They've settled down through the years.
- Rhinoplasty: her side profiles show a more defined curve at the bridge
- Fillers (face): weight has been fluctuating throughout the years so it might not be as prominent, but other folks here have pointed out she's been looking smoother and fuller in parts of her face.

💬 Addressed?
Sort of. Lana's words -

- Bonus: Comments from peers

OP's note: A mess to admit this but I was in the LM.com chat when Gaga said this. This isn't my tweet, but I pointed out the similarities when Gaga was having her lip injection spree circa 2012 and she responded to the comment. She also directly responded to other minor things from me in those chats (I had the screen grabs in my now broken decade old computer) lmao.

5. Ariana Grande

Before/Then:

After/Now:

📝 Speculative Report:
- Procedures circa 2012
- Surgical brow lift: No she ain't surprised or bewildered, she began to have that perpetual look in 2012. Apparently brow lifts are popular in South Korea.
- Rhinoplasty: finer tip.
- Occasional fillers/lip injections: Grande has been open and proud of being vegan since 2014 so her weight shifted during her transformation into a pop singer, but in certain instances she has the appearance of fillers even though she's still young. Fans insist it's only lip liner that's giving the pouty looks, but they need to remember injections settle in and out.

As ONTD member margot6 said on her before and after pics: "they don't even look like cousins."

💬 Addressed?

Addressed and made it sound like it was all just hoopla, but no where in her words did she deny anything.

4. Britney Spears

Before/Then:

After/Now:

📝 Speculative Report:
- Procedures circa 2013
- Rhinoplasty: thinner bridge+tip, prominent since her cover on Women's Health.
- Fillers/lip injections: around the mouth area. Assuming to smooth out laughing wrinkles, so it ended up giving the 'joker' smile with the curves on her top borders.

💬 Addressed?
Says she had lip injections.

3. Kesha

Before/Then:

After/Now:

📝 Speculative Report:
- Procedures circa 2015.
- Lip injections: but they've settled since
- Fillers

💬 Addressed?
N/A

2. Lady Gaga

Before/Then:

After/Now:

📝 Speculative Report:
- Procedures: lip injections around 2012, real differences in 2015
- Face lift: cheek and chin (see very sharp quarter profile). She took note of drag queens and played around with face tape which seemed like she used often, until she consistently looked liked it all the time, thus a face lift.
- Lip injections
- Fillers

Notes: People have been speculating about a nose job SINCE she debuted in 2008 all the way through BTW era. I believe she didn't touch her nose at all, but those bangs she used to sport made her large nose appear more protruding.

💬 Addressed?
Gaga addressed her lip filler phase in 2013 and that a photographer wanted her to stop.

1. Christina Aguilera

Before/Then:

After/Now:

📝 Speculative Report:
- Procedures circa 2016/2017
- Lip injections: we were stunned and shocked by the now deleted IG picture (top left in the after photos). Now they're an asymmetrical mess (bottom in the after photos).
- Fillers: we started to see fillers in 2016 and now they're more noticeable, especially in movement.
- Had a boob job circa 2006 but likely removed them since

Notes: Legend X fluctuates her weight a LOT through the years and gossip sites always speculated she had lip+nose jobs throughout, but those changes we likely weight-related.

💬 Addressed?
N/A, just like that damn album

At the end of the day you just have to do you boo, and let others do them. Sometimes these operations can be a snatch, others got us thinking

But from my understanding, none of us are celebs who have to always make public appearances, be close-up ready, doing photoshoots, and be criticized all the time. What IS moderation?

And before you get influenced, check out how camera lenses are distorting the perceptions of ourselves:

Complex: "Where Did Tinashe Go Wrong?"

$

-Tinashe fans like to argue that the singer is “slept on”. Since the release of her long-awaited sophomore studio album, Joyride, there have been a number of tweets claiming that people are snoozing on everything from her fashion to her vocals to her dancing. But just a few years ago, the music world was wide awake and ready for Tinashe—unfortunately, she has yet to keep us up at night.

-Joyride, released by RCA Records on April 13, 2018, gives us more of the same from Tinashe—as in, more of the same type of music that has failed to bring her success in the past.
The album sees Tinashe doing what she always does: breathily whining lyrics that don’t say much of anything, over a watered-down version of an already-popularized sound.

- Though a few of her other songs aim for something deeper, they fail to match up to someone like SZA when it comes to letting her personality shine through. With SZA, we feel like we’re reading a diary or a journal. Tinashe’s music feels closer to a Tumblr page.
