A Connecticut theater has canceled its production of Woody Allen's musical, Bullets Over Broadway, in the wake of his daughter Dylan Farrow's television interview in which she told of being molested by her father when she was seven years old. The executive director of the Goodspeed Opera House stated: "In light of the current dialogue on sexual harassment and misconduct, the author of "Bullets Over Broadway," Woody Allen, has come under increasing scrutiny. Ongoing reports in the media have made this situation even more difficult and complicated and this led us to reconsider the appropriateness of producing the show."
In addition, Page Six is reporting that Amazon may not release Woody Allen's latest film, A Rainy Day in New York - or may just silently dump it onto their site later this year without any publicity or a premiere. The film stars Timothee Chalamet, Selena Gomez, Jude Law, Rebecca Hall, Elle Fanning and Liev Schreiber.
The article says that Woody can no longer get most A-list talent to work with him and that younger, non-established actors are reluctant to work with him now because it might derail their careers. It says his career in the U.S. might be over, but quotes an anonymous film executive saying “The French love him and don’t care about sex scandals. But Amazon does. Jeff Bezos is not dumb.”
It also suggests that even if Woody loses his lucrative Amazon deal, he can always go back to the way he made films for decades: by having his sister, Letty Aronson, collect donations from wealthy European supporters.
(O.P.'s Note: The Page Six article incorrectly states that a 1993 court "found no credible evidence to support [Dylan]'s claims": In fact, what the judge in Mia and Woody's 1993 custody case stated in his decision was this:
"There is no credible evidence to support Mr. Allen’s contention that Ms. Farrow coached Dylan or that Ms. Farrow acted upon a desire for revenge against him for seducing Soon-Yi. Mr. Allen's resort to the stereotypical 'woman scorned' defense is an injudicious attempt to divert attention from his failure to act as a responsible parent and adult...Mr. Allen's behavior toward Dylan was grossly inappropriate and measures must be taken to protect her...I believe Mr. Allen to be...self-absorbed, untrustworthy and insensitive"
No court has ever cleared Woody of the molestation charges).
