A lot of interesting and fun stats came from this year's Oscar nominations, noting in fact some of the eldest people nominated in history.
-- John Williams received a record 51st nomination this year for scoring Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and is the most nominated person currently living (right behind the overall record-holder, who was, no surprise, Walt Disney, who also won the most at 22).
-- At 89 years old (90th birthday on May 30), director Agnès Varda is the oldest person to receive an Oscar nomination for her documentary 'Faces Places.'
-- At 89 years old (90th birthday on June 7), 'Call Me by Your Name's screenwriter James Ivory is the oldest man in history to receive a nomination.
-- At 88 years old, Christopher Plummer is the oldest actor to receive a nomination for 'All the Money in the World'.
-- Mary J. Blige is the only person in history nominated for acting and original song in the same year (for 'Mudbound').
-- Rachel Morrison is the first woman to receive a cinematography nomination (for 'Mudbound').
-- Yance Ford is the first trans director to be nominated for an Oscar, for their documentary 'Strong Island'.
-- Dee Rees is the second black woman to be nominated for screenplay (for 'Mudbound'), 45 years after Suzanne De Passe for 1972's 'Lady Sings the Blues'.
-- At 22 years old, Timothée Chalamet is the third youngest male to receive a best lead actor nomination ('Call Me by Your Name'), and the youngest in almost 80 years. Jackie Cooper was nominated at 9 years old in 1931 and Mickey Rooney in 1939 at age 19.
-- Jordan Peele ('Get Out') is the third person to receive a directing, producing, and writing Oscar nominations for their directorial debut (after Warren Beatty and James L Brooks).
-- Meryl Streep continues to break her own acting nominations record, now with 21 for her latest work in 'The Post'.
-- Greta Gerwig is the fifth woman nominated for best director ('Lady Bird'), after Lina Wertmuller (Seven Beauties), Jane Campion (The Piano), Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), and Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker).
