• Schitt's Creek was simply an idea Dan had inspired by The Real Housewives franchise and Keeping up with the Kardashians. "What if one of these notable families that loved the money, what would happen if you stripped it all away? What would that family look like?"
• Dan explains that the premise of the show is that the Roses are living in a motel in a town that they purchased as a joke because of the name of the town (Schitt's Creek). The deed of the town was given to Dan's character (David) by his dad as a joke. They then lose everything and the town is the only thing they are able to keep.
