After reading through Woody Allen's entire archive, memoirist Richard Morgan calls him a misogynist

$

  • Memoirist Richard Morgan wrote an op-ed discussing Woody Allen's writing after reading through his complete archive

  • Drags Woody Allen for always rehashing the same movies about young women being in awe of older "geniuses"

  • Drags Allen for donating his 56 box archives to Princeton when he didn't even attend that university

  • Claims that Princeton told him he's the only person alive (aside from Allen I guess) who's gone through the entire archive

  • Calls Allen's entire career repetitive misogyny in different settings

  • Found an Allen short story in several drafts where the girl character had her age repeatedly lowered and then became two young 18 year olds who both worshipped the main (male) character

  • Pitched a "sexy" sixteen year old as a character in an unproduced TV pilot

  • Many of his scripts specifically are written about teenage girls while the men who obsess over them are middle aged

  • In his papers Allen wrote a fantasy sequence about pressuring socialite Nati Abascal to have sex with him by telling her that all actresses in his films were required to do so

  • Calls himself the "father figure" of his films

  • Brings up the fact that when Allen cast Mariel Hemingway as his teenage lover she had her first kiss with him on screen (she was 16 and he was 43) and according to her cried afterwards and didn't want to do any more takes

  • Finishes up by saying that even if what Woody Allen has written isn't illegal he's deeply, morally gross (OP note: IA!)

  • Does not talk about Dylan Farrow but does talk briefly about how fucking creepy it is that Woody Allen had a sexual relationship with his girlfriend's daughter, who later became his wife. Mentions how disgusting Allen is when he talks paternalistically about Soon-Yi Previn.

Honestly spare yourself reading the whole op-ed. Nothing is surprising but everything is so gross.

Riverdale Stars Camila Mendes and Lili Reinhart Cover February's Cosmopolitan

-Once again these two very different, independent women are lumped together as a package deal because Betty & Veronica is a classic duo yadda yadda, OP is shocked they even got individual covers
-They mostly talk sex because it's Cosmo of course
-Cami doesn't like when people equate sex with giving someone "everything" because sex isn't everything, love and intimacy are more important and harder to give away (ia tbh)
-In regards to their characters:

CAMILA: “I want to see [Veronica] challenged—I want to see her at her breaking point… I love strong characters and they’re fun to play, but I think we’ve seen a lot of strong Veronica. It would be interesting to see her in a different light. I want to see her weak and defeated. I want to see her fail.”

LILI: “I want to see [Betty] have a good time. Maybe not having phone calls on the reg with a serial killer, you know? I want her to let her hair down—and not just as a reaction to being depressed and stressed out. Betty didn’t even do [Riverdale’s fictional party drug] Jingle Jangle… I also want to see her explore her sexuality. She never gets to—she’s always stressed! Poor girl.”

As much as I complain about the media always lumping these two together, I do love me some B & V:

- felt that with the world being so bleak already with current events, they didn't want to make all the episodes depressing: "We certainly felt at the end of last year and the beginning of this year that the world felt different. We thought, "At the moment, does the world really need six very, very despairing, negative, pessimistic view points on the world? Probably not. Do I feel like I want that? No." [...] The series does try to entertain and sometimes comedy and moments of levity and a rom-com can be just as affecting as anything that’s emotionally draining and exhausting."
- despite the san junipero comparisons, thinks hang the dj is very different: it's about modern dating and how to know when to settle down when there are thousands of options out there while san junipero is about mortality and the opportunity to relive your life, how changes in times and prejudices can impact how we live our lives
- on the themes of uss callister & how they relate to current events, she says: "No one could have foreseen the extent of the sexual harassment claims and what’s been going on. So, you don’t quite know. At its heart, "Callister" is about tyranny and abuse of power. But I don’t think we could have foreseen what has happened."

- 2018 has started off with a bang in the world of politics. Trump is still batshit insane and has attacked countries like Pakistan, Palestine, and the government of Iran (rightfully so). It has been quite the acid trip. Today reached another level of crazy once The Guardian released quotes from Steve Bannon. Bannon called the Trump Tower meeting treasonous and thinks they should've gone to the FBI as soon as Russia approached the Trump campaign. He also believes that Donny Jr probably took them to meet Mango Mussolini as well. After Trump was notified about Bannon's comments, he furiously reached for the Diet Coke button.

Carrie Underwood Spotted After Facial Injury Announcement + Is There Cheating involved?

Only 2 days after announcing she had to get 40 stitches to her face after falling on the steps outside her home, Carrie Underwood has surfaced in Yoga class!

Former cast member of Bravo's Below Deck, Adrienne Gang, tweeted that she was working out next to the country star who posed for a photo with her!

However, is there more to Carrie's story? A blind item posted all the way back in November on Crazy Days and Nights, seems to hint at the exact scenario Carrie tweeted about. This blind though would seem to say Carrie's husband, retired hockey player Mike Fisher, is cheating on her. She caught him, got pretty drunk and fell down the stairs when she confronted him:

This A list singer got wasted out of her mind and was angry. Not a great combination which is why she ended up injured. Why was she angry? She found out her husband was cheating on her. Apparently his story just fell apart when she started looking into it.

Source23

Uh, you don't look any different girl.
Mess though if that blind is true.

I Was Anastasia

I Was Anastasia by Ariel Lawhon

Genre: HISTORICAL FICTION

About: Ariel Lawhon, a rising star in historical suspense, has set her sights on one of history's most beguiling mysteries: Did Anastasia Romanov survive the Russian Revolution, or was Anna Anderson, the woman who notoriously claimed her identity, an impostor?

Russia, July 17, 1918 Under direct orders from Vladimir Lenin, Bolshevik secret police force Anastasia Romanov, along with the entire imperial family, into a damp basement in Siberia where they face a merciless firing squad. None survive. At least that is what the executioners have always claimed.

Germany, February 17, 1920 A young woman bearing an uncanny resemblance to Anastasia Romanov is pulled shivering and senseless from a canal. Refusing to explain her presence in the freezing water or even acknowledge her rescuers, she is taken to the hospital where an examination reveals that her body is riddled with countless, horrific scars. When she finally does speak, this frightened, mysterious young woman claims to be the Russian Grand Duchess.

As rumors begin to circulate through European society that the youngest Romanov daughter has survived the massacre at Ekaterinburg, old enemies and new threats are awakened. The question of who this woman is and what actually happened to Anastasia creates a saga that spans fifty years and three continents. This thrilling page-turner is every bit as moving and momentous as it is harrowing and twisted.

So Leah really doesn’t know what to do when her rock-solid friend group starts to fracture in unexpected ways. With prom and college on the horizon, tensions are running high. It’s hard for Leah to strike the right note while the people she loves are fighting—especially when she realizes she might love one of them more than she ever intended.

Circe

Genre: FANTASY & SCIENCE FICTION

About: In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child--not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power--the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

Threatened, Zeus banishes her to a deserted island, where she hones her occult craft, tames wild beasts and crosses paths with many of the most famous figures in all of mythology, including the Minotaur, Daedalus and his doomed son Icarus, the murderous Medea, and, of course, wily Odysseus.

But there is danger, too, for a woman who stands alone, and Circe unwittingly draws the wrath of both men and gods, ultimately finding herself pitted against one of the most terrifying and vengeful of the Olympians. To protect what she loves most, Circe must summon all her strength and choose, once and for all, whether she belongs with the gods she is born from, or the mortals she has come to love.

With unforgettably vivid characters, mesmerizing language and page-turning suspense, Circe is a triumph of storytelling, an intoxicating epic of family rivalry, palace intrigue, love and loss, as well as a celebration of indomitable female strength in a man's world.

Adam Driver Knew He Looked Good In His Shirtless Scene In The Last Jedi

$

In the past we explored if it was okay to be attracted to Kylo Ren, then watched as Adam Driver's buick estate wagon-wide muscular body caused the internet to imitate him in good fun. And guess what? Adam Driver is totally cool with his now iconic scene and the social media fervor around it.

  • Kylo Ren fanboy Rian Johnson on the now infamous scene: "He’s good. He’s great, he knew he looked good. Adam looks so damn good because he’d been training hardcore for the past six months for those fight scenes. I’m like, ‘Eh. He looks so good. We should put him up there'"

  • Johnson on how showcasing Ben Solo slapping Rey's retinas with his bare chest was narratively important (surejan.gif x100): "The idea that, what’s even more uncomfortable having a conversation face to face with a person you don’t want to, is if they’re half-naked during it, while you’re having to do it. And so it was just another way of kind of disrobing Kylo literally and figuratively a little bit more, and pushing that sense of these conversations becoming increasingly more intimate."

  • Driver spent six seasons in various states of undress in the now dead HBO show "Girls", except no one cared back then because his character was a regular creepy nobody and not the OTT Byronic hero the internet loves to embrace like Kylo Ren
