One Tree Hill and The Royals creator/showrunner was suspended by E! Network after 40+ claims of sexual harassment were made against him (both cast and crew on both OTH & The Royals). However, Hilarie Burton, who opened up in detail about the harassment she endured, is not happy and wants him to be fired.






Mark Schwahn has continued to stay silent on the matter.

Savannah Guthrie read a statement from Matt Lauer on the Today show this morning, after saying that the statement had just been received "moments ago". It read:

"There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions. To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry. As I am writing this, I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC.

Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed. I regret that my shame is now shared by the people that I cherish dearly. Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul searching and I'm committed to beginning that effort. It is now my full time job.

The last two days have forced me to take a very hard look at my own troubling flaws. It's been humbling. I am blessed to be surrounded by the people I love. I thank them for their patience and grace."

Last week Ed Sheeran said he was going to "Despacito"'Perfect" by releasing a remix of it with a big artist. Today the big artist was announced and 'Perfect" is getting a remix with Beyonce.

Rita's song 'Anywhere' was set to become her fifth #1 single (and tying the record for most #1s on the chart by a British woman) in the UK next week, but Ed's song will now block hers.

Gotham Awards might be a good indicator of Oscar's best picture - past 3 winners won BP

-- Noted that although the Gotham Awards are kind of meh in general, the past three winners did go on to win Best Picture at the Oscars: 2016's 'Moonlight'; 2015's 'Spotlight'; and 2014's 'Birdman'
-- This year's winner was 'Call Me by Your Name', which could be a good indicator that it's in the lead for the very least a BP Oscar nomination. The article also notes 'Get Out's strength is a big contender this awards season (duh).

Also relevant, but the New York Film Critics Circle are choosing their best of 2017 today. Winners so far (as of when I posted this) include 'Get Out' as Best First Film, 'Faces Places' as Best Nonfiction Film, 'Coco' as Best Animated Film, and 'BPM' as Best Foreign Language Film.

Florence Welch's first book, Useless Magic, will be released on July 5, 2018 by Fig Tree (a division of Penguin). The book will include lyrics, poems, and Florence's own artwork.

Florence + The Machine is also speculated to be releasing new music next year, as the group is already set to headline major festivals.

The "Shaft" Reboot, "The Goldfinch"&"Tag" Release Dates

First up:
"Shaft" is getting a June 2019 reboot, this time focusing on the son of John Shaft played by Jessie T. Usher. Samuel Jackson will again star as the nephew of John Shaft & Richard Roundtree as the titular character.

  • The 1971 original film made $13 million for movie studio MGM (which is $78 million in 2017 dollars), the film has since been added to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress
  • Isaac Hayes "Theme from Shaft" took home the Oscar for best original song
  • The first reboot was attempted in 2000 starring Samuel Jackson and directed by John Singleton

    • Next:

    "The Goldfinch" will star Ontd's favorite trust fund baby, iPhone DJ, super sultry crooner and chalky skinny-dipper Ansel Elgort, will star opposite Sarah Paulson which is hmmm...sure is a difference in skill here but whatever.

  • Is an adaptation of Donna Tartt's Pulitzer Prize winning novel about a child whose mother is killed in a terrorist attack at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City
  • Production will be shared by Warner Bros. & Amazon Studios and released in June 2018

    • Last:

    Ensemble comedy "Tag" will star pinched spud Jeremy Renner, Isla Fisher, Ed Helms, Hannibal Buress, John Hamm, Annabelle Wallis & Rashida Jones. The release date is set for June 2018

  • Is based on a true story somehow featured in the The Wall Street Journal about a bunch of adults playing the child's game Tag for 30 years
    • I'd rather have a dramatization of Xenu's favorite disciple playing adult hide & seek with held hostage celebrities instead

    Jenny Lumet accuses Russell Simmons of raping her + his response

    Lumet is the daughter of director Sidney Lumet and the granddaughter of actress Lena Horne. She is an actress/screen writer who co-wrote Rachel Getting Married.

    • In the open letter Lumet says she first met Simmons in 1987 when he was the producer of a film she appeared in.

    • He pursued her on and off for multiple years, though she always just considered him a flirt and didn't take him seriously

    • In 1991 they met at a club and he offered her a ride home. When she gave her address to his driver he told his driver not to take her there and locked the car doors so she couldn't leave

    • He brought her to a location she didn't recognize and she didn't run away from the space from the car to the elevator because she didn't know if it would escalate the situation

    • Once in the elevator Simmons started to grope and kiss her

    • When they got to his apartment he moved her to the bedroom where Lumet had sex with him because she was afraid he would turn violent

    • She says she met him multiple times over the following years but she was never friendly with him again though she is sure there are photos of her smiling with him

    • She feels anguish being a woc accusing a moc of violating her but wants to step forward in support of model Keri Claussen Khalighi and any other women Simmons violated




    Russel Simmons responds:
    I have been informed with great anguish of Jenny Lumet’s recollection about our night together in 1991. I know Jenny and her family and have seen her several times over the years since the evening she described. While her memory of that evening is very different from mine, it is now clear to me that her feelings of fear and intimidation are real. While I have never been violent, I have been thoughtless and insensitive in some of my relationships over many decades and I sincerely apologize.

    This is a time of great transition. The voices of the voiceless, those who have been hurt or shamed, deserve and need to be heard. As the corridors of power inevitably make way for a new generation, I don’t want to be a distraction so I am removing myself from the businesses that I founded. The companies will now be run by a new and diverse generation of extraordinary executives who are moving the culture and consciousness forward. I will convert the studio for yogic science into a not-for-profit center of learning and healing. As for me, I will step aside and commit myself to continuing my personal growth, spiritual learning and above all to listening.
