Lauren Jauregui from Fifth Harmony Pens 'Love Letter' to LGBTQ Community

$

Lauren Jauregui from Fifth Harmony writes a beautiful and touching letter to the LGBTQ community, also discussing her decision to come out as bisexual last year.

"The way in which [Trump's] campaign was run scared me. His obvious misogyny, his homophobia, his dismissal of the arts, and his incessant ideology pushing of minority communities as terrorists, rapists, and criminals truly made me feel terrified for my future and the future of the children growing up in this world right now. It made me wonder if people really felt this way; and when he won, it truly broke my heart. It made me come to terms with the fact that the part of me that loved women was invalidated and that she was an important part of my story and who I was. Accepting her in one sentence within the context of a whole political commentary being what caught the world's attention made me realize how scandalous it still is as a concept for humans to connect with their souls."

chrishemsworth: I've spent a large part of my life in and around the ocean, it's where a lot of my happiest memories came from. If I had anxieties or worries I'd head to the ocean and it was always the place where I could reset and be 100% present. My experience in the Maldives made it obvious how our short-term use of plastic has a long-term damaging effect on our oceans. I’m thrilled to be a part of this program, because I want to inspire people to find a solution and protect the world’s oceans so future generations can enjoy them like I do. #100Islandsprotected

brielarson: Some friends and I managed to collect NINE bags of trash and a fricken tire in 40 minutes within a 400 foot zone on the beach. What are we doing people?? With so much talk about how our government is handling the future of a clean planet... I'd like to remind you that there are still small contributions YOU can make to be a leader of change. Call your senators, make your voice heard, but don't stop there! Use the comments to share with us how you plan to help clean up our world. I'll start: driving an electric car, starting a compost bin, diligently recycling, always choosing organic/local produce and avoiding plastic bottles. Your turn! We got this 💪🐬🌳🌼🌈🥑🌍 oh! And ps: our landscaping is all drought tolerant. I urge those in California to do they same!

brielarson: I am jumping for joy over your comments!! Let's keep each other inspired to do more 🌊🌊🌊

“The girls are great in it. Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig – what a wonderful, wonderful players they are – and Leslie Jones. I was really happy with the movie, but it cost too much. And Sony does not like to lose money. It made a lot of money around the world but just cost too much, making it economically not feasible to do another one. So that’s too bad – the director, he spent too much on it. He didn’t shoot scenes we suggested to him and several scenes that were going to be needed and he said “nah, we don’t need them”. Then we tested the movie and they needed them and he had to go back. About $30 to $40 million in reshoots. So he will not be back on the Sony lot any time soon.”

'The Golden Compass' by Philip Pullman

'The Golden Compass' by Philip Pullman

About: Here lives an orphaned ward named Lyra Belacqua, whose carefree life among the scholars at Oxford's Jordan College is shattered by the arrival of two powerful visitors. First, her fearsome uncle, Lord Asriel, appears with evidence of mystery and danger in the far North, including photographs of a mysterious celestial phenomenon called Dust and the dim outline of a city suspended in the Aurora Borealis that he suspects is part of an alternate universe. He leaves Lyra in the care of Mrs. Coulter, an enigmatic scholar and explorer who offers to give Lyra the attention her uncle has long refused her. In this multilayered narrative, however, nothing is as it seems. Lyra sets out for the top of the world in search of her kidnapped playmate, Roger, bearing a rare truth-telling instrument, the alethiometer. All around her children are disappearing—victims of so-called "Gobblers"—and being used as subjects in terrible experiments that separate humans from their daemons, creatures that reflect each person's inner being. And somehow, both Lord Asriel and Mrs. Coulter are involved.

'Cloud Atlas' by David Mitchell

'Cloud Atlas' by David Mitchel

About: Cloud Atlas begins in 1850 with Adam Ewing, an American notary voyaging from the Chatham Isles to his home in California. Along the way, Ewing is befriended by a physician, Dr. Goose, who begins to treat him for a rare species of brain parasite. . . . Abruptly, the action jumps to Belgium in 1931, where Robert Frobisher, a disinherited bisexual composer, contrives his way into the household of an infirm maestro who has a beguiling wife and a nubile daughter. . . . From there we jump to the West Coast in the 1970s and a troubled reporter named Luisa Rey, who stumbles upon a web of corporate greed and murder that threatens to claim her life. . . . And onward, with dazzling virtuosity, to an inglorious present-day England; to a Korean superstate of the near future where neocapitalism has run amok; and, finally, to a postapocalyptic Iron Age Hawaii in the last days of history.

But the story doesn’t end even there. The narrative then boomerangs back through centuries and space, returning by the same route, in reverse, to its starting point. Along the way, Mitchell reveals how his disparate characters connect, how their fates intertwine, and how their souls drift across time like clouds across the sky.

As wild as a videogame, as mysterious as a Zen koan, Cloud Atlas is an unforgettable tour de force that, like its incomparable author, has transcended its cult classic status to become a worldwide phenomenon.

'The Giver' by Lois Lowry

'The Giver' by Lois Lowry

About: This haunting story centers on Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he's given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community.

'Dune' by Frank Herbert

'Dune' by Frank Herbert

About: Set in the far future amidst a sprawling feudal interstellar empire where planetary dynasties are controlled by noble houses that owe an allegiance to the imperial House Corrino, Dune tells the story of young Paul Atreides (the heir apparent to Duke Leto Atreides and heir of House Atreides) as he and his family accept control of the desert planet Arrakis, the only source of the 'spice' melange, the most important and valuable substance in the cosmos. The story explores the complex, multi-layered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion as the forces of the empire confront each other for control of Arrakis.

Published in 1965, it won the Hugo Award in 1966 and the inaugural Nebula Award for Best Novel. Dune is frequently cited as the world's best-selling sf novel.

'Ella Enchanted' by Gail Carson Levine

'Ella Enchanted' by Gail Carson Levine

About: At birth, Ella is inadvertently cursed by an imprudent young fairy named Lucinda, who bestows on her the "gift" of obedience. Anything anyone tells her to do, Ella must obey. Another girl might have been cowed by this affliction, but not feisty Ella: "Instead of making me docile, Lucinda's curse made a rebel of me. Or perhaps I was that way naturally." When her beloved mother dies, leaving her in the care of a mostly absent and avaricious father, and later, a loathsome stepmother and two treacherous stepsisters, Ella's life and well-being seem to be in grave peril. But her intelligence and saucy nature keep her in good stead as she sets out on a quest for freedom and self-discovery as she tries to track down Lucinda to undo the curse, fending off ogres, befriending elves, and falling in love with a prince along the way. Yes, there is a pumpkin coach, a glass slipper, and a happily ever after, but this is the most remarkable, delightful, and profound version of Cinderella you'll ever read.

Gail Carson Levine's examination of traditional female roles in fairy tales takes some satisfying twists and deviations from the original. Ella is bound by obedience against her will, and takes matters in her own hands with ambition and verve. Her relationship with the prince is balanced and based on humor and mutual respect; in fact, it is she who ultimately rescues him. Ella Enchanted has won many well-deserved awards, including a Newbery Honor.

Demi Lovato is still feuding with Kathy Griffin

After Kathy Griffin's weird press conference yesterday, Demi Lovato tweeted out her take on the situation.

She also liked this tweet her Trump-supporting mom made that quotes a video where Kathy said she'll continue making fun of the president:

The animosity appears to have arisen from a series of jokes Kathy made in some stand up sets about the incident where Demi punched a back-up dancer in the face on a plane.Kathy apparently suggested that normal people who assault people go to jail and don't get to just go off to rehab and come out with a repaired image.

Previously the LAPD had to get involved after many Lovatics started sending Kathy death and rape and arson threats after she called Demi 'Debbie' and answered Demi Lovato when someone asked her who has been the biggest douche celebrity she's met.

Neil Blomkamp's Alien 5 Is Totally Dead, District 9 Sequel May Happen Instead

Neil Blomkamp said the following in regards to his planned Alien sequel:

"I think it's totally dead, yes. That would be an accurate assumption at this point. It's sad. I spent a long time working on that, and I feel like it was really pretty awesome. But politically, the way it's gone now, and the way that it all is, it's just not going to live." Asked to clarify, he said "Ridley [Scott] was one of my idols growing up. He's so talented and he's made this film that really set me off in a direction. I want to just be as respectful and not go stamping around in this world that he created. I think that if the circumstances were different, and I didn't feel like I was getting too close to something that he obviously feels a massive personal connection to, that things that may have played out differently. But I did want to be as respectful as possible."

In related news, he said that he is planning on making a new film set in the District 9 universe:

"With District 9, I plan on making another film in that world. To go back and work with WETA, and make the film would be cool."

Half of Bill Cosby's TV Family Will Attend His Trial

Bill Cosby's TV wife and two of his TV kids are expected to attend his sexual assault trial in order to show their support.

Cosby Show cast members Phylicia Rashad (wife Claire), Malcolm Jamal Warner (son Theo) and Keshia Knight-Pulliam (daughter Rudy) are all planning to sit in the courtroom to show jurors their support of Cosby, sources told Page Six.

Cosby's other three TV daughters, Sabrina LaBeauf (Sondra), Lisa Bonet (Denise) and Tempestt Bledsoe (Vanessa) have remained silent on the accusations against him and are not expected to attend.

In 2015, Rashad defended her TV husband against the sexual assault allegations from more than 60 women, saying “I think it’s orchestrated, I don’t know why or who’s doing it, but it’s the legacy. And, it’s a legacy that is so important to the culture. Someone is determined to keep Bill Cosby off TV, and it’s worked.”

The trial begins Monday in Philadelphia.
