Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn had 'suicidal thoughts' as a young man

'Guardians of the Galaxy' director James Gunn wrote the following message on his Facebook to his fans.

"When I was young I felt utterly alone, at times to the point of suicidal thoughts. I never felt like I belonged, had an incredibly difficult time connecting to other people and, despite having love around me, I had an impossible time experiencing it, or taking it in.

But I found my respite in popular entertainment - Marvel comics, science fiction and horror films, the music of The Sex Pistols, The Replacements, and Queen. Suddenly I could see past the bland suburbs where I lived into a more magical world, a world more aligned with what I imagined.

Sometimes these works were simply escapist fantasies that distracted me from the difficulties of my internal life. But other times, in the strongest moments - maybe through the words of Alice Cooper or Freddie Mercury, through Cronenberg films, or even in Chewbacca's growl, I experienced something deeper - the realization that I wasn't completely alone. Someone out there was as weird and strange and whacked out as I was.

So this morning, as the internet discusses box office and its many theories around what that means (zzzzzzzz), I'd like to remember that that's truly all nonsense and noise. The only meaning the money holds for me is that I can pay my mortgage, feed my dog and cat, and continue making movies. I haven't worked two and a half years just to watch a string of numbers getting higher.

I work because I like telling stories. I work because I love the relationships I have with my collaborators. And I do it because I like connecting with people, and the easiest way I know how to do that is through filmmaking. I do it so that some kid in Thailand, or England, or Colombia, or Brazil, or Japan, or Russia, or anywhere, can hear the frequency of his or her own heart bouncing back off the Guardians.

They're a group of heartbroken misfits whose lives have been bereft of tenderness and connection and who have a nearly impossible time trusting themselves or others. But they're learning, one step at a time.

They are me. They are you. We are Groot.

And no matter how much world leaders are telling you we aren't in this together, we are. You are not alone.

Thank you so much, my Facebook friends, for supporting me over the past two and a half years, and thank you for all the messages letting us know we've keyed into the frequency of your hearts. I love you all, and I'll continue being here with you over the next three years as we create Vol. 3."

Bon Voyage: Katy Perry’s ‘Bon Appétit’ Crashes Out Of iTunes Top 100

Katy Perry's career might be in serious danger because her new single is bombing, majorly.

"Bon Appetit", the second single of her yet to be announced 4th studio album dropped out of the iTunes Top 100 only 6 days after it was released.

Despite boasting a trendy feature (Migos), the song peaked at #15 on iTunes and dropped dramatically almost immediately. The song is #114 at the moment.

"Bon Appetit" isn't doing any better on streaming services, either. The song failed to take off on Spotify, where it currently sits at #104.

On YouTube? All the way down to #457.

Music insiders are left wondering: "If Katy is struggling to sell / stream singles, what fate awaits her album?"

The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman Writes Apology Letter For Killing Fan-Favorite Character

Issue #167 of The Walking Dead comics killed off a fan-favorite character

Andrea was bitten by a walker, a tearful Rick Grimes had to drive a knife into Andrea's head to stop her reanimated form from biting him.

"I’m sorry to my fans and to myself and to Andrea. I feel like I killed a close friend. The deaths in this series are never taken lightly, they’re never done with a sense of glee. They weigh on me the same way they weigh on you. These characters are very real to me, and their deaths are upsetting even to me."

"I plotted this issue out during a plane ride a few months ago. I plot my stories down with a pencil and paper, and there I was in my seat, blocking out scenes and writing dialogue notes, surrounded by strangers who probably thought I was jotting down a shopping list. As I was writing some of the moments from this issue, I started crying. I found myself glancing around, wiping my eyes, hoping no one would notice. I’ve been living with this death for months now... and I don’t like it."

"I had plenty of time to change my mind. I had plenty of time to just not do it. I am in control of this story after all. But honestly, sometimes it feels like I’m not. This was one of those times. I don’t like this. I don’t want this. I want Andrea to live. I want to write more stories with her. I want to see her and Rick grow old together, watching Carl grow up and have kids of his own. I want that kind of happiness for these characters."

"And yet, here we are,"

"Andrea is dead and the story moves on. I don’t know why this had to happen... but I know it did. I know this is another important turning point in the life of this series. I know Andrea’s death will mean something, that it will resonate in the stories moving forward for years to come. But I still don’t like it. It still upsets me."

"I loved Andrea and I will truly miss her."
