Evan Rachel Wood covers Elle Canada, talks feminism, bigotry & music

· Says her character on Westworld forced her to face trauma she's dealt with, including her experience being raped, and that playing Dolores has made her less ashamed. She says opening up about her experience has been overwhelming because people share theirs with her, and that she is using her past to guide her 3 y/o son
· Moved from Los Angeles to Nashville to give her son a more normal childhood but also because she wants to contribute to a cultural shift in a more conservative region, saying she confronted a man who negatively compared Ivanka & Melania Trump's appearances w/Chelsea & Hillary Clinton's. Says she wants everyone to have access to affordable health care, and then just leave each other alone
· Says she hates that feminism is equated with hating men, since she loves men, and that she's been told she's going to hell for being bisexual
· Wood, who is a big Bowie fan, says music is her religion; she prefers happy songs because it's more difficult to focus on what's good. She's big into spirituality and self-help

So proud getting to be on the cover of @ellecanada. Thank you #Elle for going against the grain. Androgynous #glamrock looks are hard to find on a cover. @tobyfleischman @mararoszak @annakatsanis @_michellesaunders and @maxabadian absolutely crushed it. David Schwimmer Launches Videos to Fight Sexual Harassment

$

Friends star David Schwimmer has joined with Israeli-American filmmaker Sigal Avin to launch six short online videos that star celebrities like Emmy Rossum, Cynthia Nixon, Bobby Cannavale, Noah Emmerich and Schwimmer himself acting out real instances of sexual harassment.

“I grew up with stories of sexual harassment from my mom. Every woman in my family, in my life, has been harassed, except my daughter, thank God, who’s only 6," Schwimmer told Cosmopolitan,

“The whole purpose of this is to encourage people and to give them the courage to speak out if they’re a victim themselves of harassment, or if they witness or are aware of sexual harassment. The reality (is that) this kind of harassment takes place in the workplace, in a professional environment, and that means it’s about power," Schwimmer said.

One of the videos, titled The Coworker, stars Grace Gummer and includes President Trump's infamous "grab her by the pussy" line. “We don’t want this to be a partisan issue because it’s not. Every woman, no matter what her political beliefs, is subject to sexual harassment. This is not a partisan ‘liberal Hollywood throwing their arms up against Trump’ issue...Having said that, I found his boasting of committing sexual assault really disturbing. I think our leaders have to demonstrate a certain kind of character. When I think about my daughter, I find that difficult to explain,” Schwimmer said.

The six videos are available online here.

Why Meghan Markle's Estranged Half-Sister Samantha Grant Is Really Speaking Out

$

0

Meghan Markle's estranged half-sister Samantha Grant is penning a tell-all book about her relationship with the Suits actress.
52-year-old Grant's motives might not be as innocent as they seem.

from a source :
"Samantha Grant doesn't have a relationship with Meghan Markle and she never has. As they were 17 years apart, they were never raised in the same house. Meghan was raised an only child by her loving parents."

"This woman who she hardly knows, who has had a lifelong history of lying and manipulation is setting her sights on her for no reason. In their very limited contact, Meghan has never been anything but nice to her and for the majority of those interactions, Meghan was just a little girl. This is an old, jealous woman (she is in her 50s! who does this in their 50s?) doing anything she can to take advantage of the situation to sell lies for money and fame.3

"Meghan has never done anything to her and continues to take the high road."

"Recently Samantha changed her name from Samantha Grant to Samantha Markle. If she hates Meghan so much, why is she suddenly trying to share an identity with her?"

"Samantha was not a part of that life and in no way shape or form did Samantha raise Meghan until she was 12. Meghan saw her on occasionally at family functions but never on a regular basis. For about two weeks when Meghan was 12, Samantha moved in with her dad (and Meghan was still splitting time between homes). She has seen her once since then. It's been 23 years."

Samantha Grant, on twitter about her book "Maybe when she is more mature and she reads the book she'll understand some of it. She won't like some of it she might [sic]."

Prison Break Revival (season 5) Reviews

$
0
0

The return of Prison Break is so exhaustingly mediocre. Prison Break isn’t worth much of anything, but it could have been. There’s just too much good TV out there that’s more deserving of your attention. Sorry, fans, but Prison Break should have stayed locked up.

Those who are looking for good television, however, will likely not be pleased by what’s going on here. Purcell and Miller are not particularly good in a series that depends on a certain level of realism. My hope is that this will satisfy whatever itch the show’s die-hards had to elicit this revival, if only to finally put an end to all of this.

Prison makes no effort to get the facts or parties straight, or to avoid a single ugly Middle Eastern stereotype. If you needed another reason to let this show die once and for all, that will do.

Prison Break was always two or three steps over the line of the absurd with the hand break off towards nutty. Prison Break Season 5 only serves to prove that. Sometimes there really are no more good tales to tell and some things really should just be left alone — now matter how great the temptation.

Jezebel interview with Anne Hathaway

- talks about her upcoming movie Colossal in which she plays Gloria, an "out-of-work, alcoholic internet writer in her mid-30s who suffers a pre-midlife crisis and flees New York for her hometown."
- talks about how even after four years, she is still asked about why the internet hates her
- I think it’s weird that it continues to be talked about a little bit. I understand in the context of this movie, why it should be brought up. But it comes up in every interview I do, just about. I am... not eager, but I am ready for the conversation to move to a place beyond it. I don’t have to contextualize all of my stories, all of my experiences through that time.
- thinks most overt things are off-putting, including overt feminism, overt masculinity and overt ageism
- And I’m careful saying this because I wonder how much my reaction has been colored by the people who have explained it to me, and given the world in which we live, the majority of those people have been men.

Also, in a long (and embarrassing, tbh) postscript, the interviewer reflects on how he was one of the people who posted the infamous photo of Hathaway's crotch back in 2012. He basically tries to explain his actions by writing that in 2012 he didn't think much of posting it because at that time, there wasn't such backlash against posting nudes.

[Verse 1]
The city sky's feeling dark tonight
We're back to back with our heads down
Just look at me, give me more tonight
Just give me more of your love now

[Pre-Chorus]
Let's set fire to the lonely night
You're beautiful when you look at me
Let's give love another life

[Chorus]
Cause you'll be safe in these arms of mine
Just call my name on the edge of the night
And I'll run to you, I'll run to you

[Verse 2]
I would run to you, if you want me to
Just give me some kind of reason
I'll take the pain, take it all away
Just give it some kind of meaning

[Pre-Chorus]
Let's let go, let it be the start
You know I'm feeling the same thing
Let's let go of our broken hearts

[Chorus]
Cause you'll be safe in these arms of mine
Just call my name on the edge of the night
And I'll run to you, I'll run to you

[Bridge]
Even if it's gonna break me, love
Gonna make my way to you
Anyway it's gonna take me, love
I run to you
I run to you
Run, run

[Chorus]
Cause you'll be safe in these arms of mine
Just call my name on the edge of the night
And I'll run to you
I'll run to you

[Outro]
Even if it's gonna break me, love
I run to you

Jordan Klepper Gets Post-'Daily Show' Time Slot

$
0
0

Daily Show correspondent Jordan Klepper is being promoted to host of his own show on Comedy Central and it will air in the 11:30 p.m. time slot, right after The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.

The still-untitled program will begin in the Fall and will take the time slot that was vacated when The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore was canceled last August due to low ratings. Chris Hardwick's @midnight, which has been temporarily filling that slot in the schedule, will move back to its original midnight time slot.

Klepper, a veteran of Second City, is probably best known for his sojourns to Trump rallies on The Daily Show.

First Look At “The President Show”

The 2017 Hugo Awards finalists have been announced, and it is still a mess

$
0
0

yes the award really does look like this

- The fantasy/sci-fi-oriented Hugo awards have been plagued by MRAs and white supremacists called "Rabid Puppies" the past few years, who conspire to keep women and POC out of the list of finalists and push their own favourite racist and misogynistic writers

- This year, the Best Novel category is "Puppy"-free and, in fact, NONE of the category's nominees are white men. The nominees are 4 women and 2 men, including 3 authors of color (NK Jemisin, Cixin Liu and Yoon-Ha Lee) and 2 out LGBT writers (Charlie Jane Anders is a trans woman and Yoon-Ha Lee is a trans man).

- However the "Puppies" continue to game the system, and only 6 out of 18 categories are "Puppy"-free. Puppy finalists include:Vox Day for Best Editor, novella "This Census Taker" by China Miéville, short story "An Unimaginable Light" by John C. Wright, "The View from the Cheap Seats" by Neil Gaiman, the movie Deadpool, the semiprozine Cirsova, fanzine Castalia House, fancast The Rageaholic by Razorfist, fan writer Jeffro Johnson, fan artists Alex Garner and Mansik Yang, new writer J. Mulrooney

- The nomination of"Alien Stripper Boned From Behind by the T-Rex" by Stix Hiscock in the Best Novelette category was pushed by the MRAs. In 2016, they got"Space Raptor Butt Invasion", by Chuck Tingle, on the list of finalists in order to "discredit" the Hugo awards. Turns out Chuck Tingle isn't a fan of the alt-right and the move backfired horribly (for them) - he called the Puppies "devils" and announced that if he were to win, he would get Zöe Quinn (of Gamergate fame) to accept the award on his behalf. While no one seems to know much about Stix Hiscock, it possible that this year, to avoid nominating someone who is actually against everything they stand for, one of the MRAs actually wrote a novelette about butt-stuff himself and published it in order to get a Hugo nomination.
