Square Enix made a live action commercial with an actress playing Lightning to promote Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Having actors stand in for RPG characters is kind of nostalgic for Japan. Both Square and Enix (years before they were one entity) did this for Super Nintendo games like Dragon Quest V and Final Fantasy VI (Terra!).
Square Enix announced on Thursday that its release of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII in the Americas and Europe will feature the original Japanese audio track as downloadable content. The DLC will be available for free for the first two weeks after the game ships in the West, and then will be available as paid content. Square Enix noted that the Japanese-language DLC will include the original lip-synching, which differs from the lip-synching for the English-language voice track.
moshi moshi, lightning-desu.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII shipped in Japan on Thursday. The game will arrive in the United States on February 11, 2014, and then in Europe on February 14, 2014.
Players who pre-order the game in North America and Europe will be able to unlock Cloud's uniform and buster sword as equipment for Lightning. Lightning is also getting a Yuna costume from Final Fantasy X and various samurai costumes, as well as an Aerith Gainsborough costume and guard rod weapon from Final Fantasy VII, and a Miqo'te costume from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn with shields with motifs from the game's three city-states: Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, and Ul'dah.
The game will represent the final chapter in Lightning's story. The game centers around a 13-day countdown until the end of the world, and players must save humanity within 13 days and 13 nights. (what's that? Majora's Mask? Did you say Majora's Mask?)
