James Franco is certainly emerging as one of the coolest baddies of Hollywood. In the upcoming film Homefront, also starring Jason Statham, Franco plays Gator, a local who runs a boat repair shop but on the side is involved in drug manufacturing.
Gator also polices the area for his own purposes and tries to keep out the competition. In a recently-released ‘Homefront’ clip, James Franco says, ‘He (Gator) wants to make something out of his life and he gets this opportunity and it happens to involve harming other people.’
While most would decline the offer considering all the hurting involved, Gator rationalizes it and gives his nod
Interestingly, James Franco and Gary Fleder, the director of ‘Homefront’, had talked about working in a movie together years ago, so it seemed like a good fit to the actor to work in this project. From the very beginning of shooting the film, Fleder did not want Gator to be a cliched villain, hence they made the character multidimensional.
‘Homefront’ centres on a former DEA agent, played by Jason Statham, who moves with his family to a quiet town, where he soon meets his nemesis Gator, a local meth drug lord. The film’s screenplay has been written by Sylvester Stallone.
