After plenty of rumours and speculation about who will star in Marvel's upcoming 'Ant-Man' movie, there's been one name that repeatedly comes to the top of the list: Paul Rudd. But the friendly-faced comedy actor is apparently putting up a bit of a fight… as rumours claim that he's after a higher pay check before he'll sign any contracts.
According to The Daily Superhero, the 44-year-old actor has brought negotiations to a stand-still as he attempts to wrangle a bit more cash out of Marvel Studios.
"One of the issues with signing Rudd right now is the pending release of his next potential blockbuster film, Anchorman 2," they claim. "While Rudd is just a supporting actor in the film, the source says his stock will be as high as ever after the film becomes a huge hit this holiday season. (Some speculation by the source there but let's be honest in agreeing that Anchorman 2 will make a ton of box office cash.)"
It's this rising stock that has apparently been the issue. "Rudd's people may be using his upcoming film as leverage for a more lucrative deal." But is this pure speculation or a really well-informed source?
I can't help thinking that this could just be a well-made observation. After all, if Paul Rudd is being chased for the role of 'Ant-Man' there's no doubt that 'his people' will use every tactic available to negotiate a better deal. But does that really mean that 'Ant-Man' is being delayed as negotiations continue?
Honestly… probably not. But if that is the case, you can't blame them for trying. After all, Marvel has already proved to be a bit stingy with their actors after 'Avengers Assemble'. Let's just hope his fee doesn't turn out to be as small as Ant-Man.
