Here's something fang-tastic to feast your eyes upon. We're excited to reveal a first look at our much anticipated new drama series, Dracula, starring Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors). And if these pictures are anything to go by then we're in for a delicious delight. The 10-episode series will re-introduce Dracula as he arrives in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society - but in reality, he hopes to wreak revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier. A provocative new re-telling of the classic Bram Stoker novel, the show will also star Jessica De Gouw (Arrow), Katie McGrath (Merlin) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Mr Selfridge).
NBC Releases New Dracula First Look Photos!
Whoa, NBC released some new Dracula first look photos and I gotta say, they are gorgeous. I know, shouldn’t be surprised, this show has enlisted the most beautiful group of people that could have played these characters. Of course we all know what an amazing man Jonathan Rhys Meyers is, and he’s just the tip of the Iceberg here.
Jonathan is the shows headliner, playing one of the most iconic characters in literary history Dracula. In this re-imagining of the story he is Alexander Grayson, an American entrepreneur come to London to bring them electricity. Well, sort of. He’s actually there to get revenge on those who made him what he is.
Then we have the gorgeous Katie McGrath as Lucy Westenra (preach). Holy wow, this woman is stunning. Lucy is a flitting, flirting socialite, not unlike the original story. We will have to wait and see though how she fits into this particular story and what impact she’ll have on Dracula‘s plans.
Next up, beautiful Jessica De Gouw as Mina Murray. Mina is engaged to Jonathan Harker and a promising young medical student. She attends Alexander Grayson’s introduction party, and is awestruck when they meet. She isn’t alone, as he too is taken aback. She appears to be the reincarnation of his lost love. I can’t wait to see the sparks that fly between them, and how she’ll effect his revenge plot.
Mina’s fiance Jonathan Harker is played by Oliver Jackson Cohen, another gorgeous face. He is a very ambitious young journalist, looking to rise to the very top of the Victorian Society. Other than being an obstacle for Dracula getting to his supposed wife reincarnate I wonder what other ways Mr Harker will interact with him.
Another possible wrench in the works for Dracula, Lady Jayne Wetherby will be played by the incredible Victoria Smurfit. From the looks of the trailer that premiered at San Diego Comic Con Lady Jayne is aligned with the group that Dracula is looking for revenge on. She also seems to become entranced by him, and they get very very…um, well acquainted.
We also get a brand new twist on a character from the original story R. M. Renfield, played by the amazing Nonso Anozie. Those of you that read the story know that Renfield was sort of a nut. In this retelling though, Renfield seems to be Alexanders best friend and right hand man. The only one who knows all his deep dark secrets and helps him carry out his plan. He helps to keep Dracula under control…hmm, I can’t wait to see how that works out…
Last but by no means least there’s Thomas Kretschmann playing Abraham Van Helsing. Yep, Van Helsing…but not the character you and I are used to seeing. This is a huge twist on what we all have seen and read over the years. Apparently, Van Helsing was wronged by the very same group that wronged Dracula. Because of this common ground, it’s said we are going to see a team up of EPIC proportions. This show just continues to shock and surprise me, and we still have a while to go.
