With all of the hype surrounding Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Interstellar (which is currently in production and will star Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain), it’s easy to forget that the acclaimed director has another sci-fi thriller currently in development.
Though Nolan will only be serving as the producer, his director of photography for The Dark Knight trilogy, Wally Pfister, is currently directing Transcendence, a similarly themed film starring Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman. Like most Nolan-related projects, plot details have been kept quiet for both films…that is, until now.
Yesterday, ScreenCrush delivered the first official synopsis of Transcendence, revealing details about Depp’s character, Will Caster.
“Will Caster, forefather of A.I., has his consciousness uploaded onto the internet.
Once there, is it really Will who is interacting with humanity in order to make things better, or a darker sinister clone bent on the termination of the world as we know it?"
At this point, what we do know about the film is that Depp will play Caster and actress Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Prestige) will play his wife, with Paul Bettany (Iron Man, The Avengers) as another scientist on Caster’s team.
Transcendence is set for a theatrical release date of April 18, 2014.
