Gwyneth Paltrow might have some odd ideas about what constitutes an essential item and what might be an appropriate price for one, as she’s selling a thimble-shaped novelty shot glass in sterling silver for $950 as “a fun conversation piece for your home bar.” But apparently there are people who actually buy what she is selling, literally, because Cynthia Rowley made a bright gold wetsuit exclusively for Goop, and the darn thing has sold out already.
Cynthia Rowley, an avid surfer herself, has a line of striking, color-blocked designer wetsuits with Roxy that run from about $195-$375. We imagine the West Coast is full of salty-haired young fashion surfers splashing around in these things. Sometimes it seems like living on the West Coast must be really nice.
Gwyneth doesn’t get just a normal designer wetsuit, though, so Rowley went and designed a really fancy one for Goop, basically by making it shiny and gold.
“We’re obsessed with this super rad wetsuit from Cynthia Rowley, exclusively for goop,” the site explains. “This form-fitting look is functionally constructed from metallic gold neoprene that shines in the summer sun.”
The suit seems like it would be a highly effective way to sear your image into the retinas of everyone who happens to be in the vicinity when you surf by in your Oscar costume on a solid gold surfboard.
At $295, the Goop wetsuit is on the high end but not even the most expensive Rowley has created. And the shiny gold suit made such an impact that it sold out almost instantly on the site. It was only available in two sizes, small for women between 5’2″ and 5’5″ and 105-115 pounds, and medium for women from 5’4″ to 5’7″ and 115-130 pounds. But there’s a “bring it back” button on the Goop website, so maybe there’s still a chance to get in on the gold wetsuit trend before summer is over.
