In a new interview, Demi Lovato talked about the death of "Glee" star Cory Moneith and her own battle with addiction.

The 31-year-old actor was found dead in a hotel room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in downtown Vancouver on July 13. The British Columbia Coroner's Service reported on July 16 that the actor died "of a mixed drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol."

In 2010, Lovato sought medical treatment for "emotional and physical issues." In subsequent interviews she has opened up about her personal struggles with drugs, alcohol, bulimia and bipolar disorder.

In May, Lovato was honored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) "for her work as a mentor to young adults with mental health and substance use challenges."

"All it takes is one moment of vulnerability to get slipped into your addiction," Lovato told People magazine about Monteith's death on Wednesday, July 17. "He didn't choose to die."

"It was the disease. It can creep up on you at any moment. It only takes one moment of relapse to potentially die," she added. "It's really scary, but I'm really hoping that from this, people are able to see this is a very, very, very dangerous disease."

Lovato also had kind words for Monteith's girlfriend, Lea Michele.

The main person in my thoughts is Lea," the singer told the magazine. "I am praying for her so hard and I love her so much. I'm wishing her a lot of strength right now."

Lovato is currently promoting her fourth studio album "Demi" and recently released the video for the second single off the album called "Made in the USA." She also recently finished filming the audition rounds for the third season of "The X Factor," where she serves as a mentor and judge. The third season is set to premiere on September 11.

On Wednesday, Monteith's "Glee" co-star Jane Lynch spoke about his death and said, "He was a really bright light in our family and we've lost a really great guy."
