'Misfits' returns: A new cast, a killer rabbit and the Four Horsemen

We here at Tube Talk are long-time fans of E4's Misfits - we had a camera crew on-set way back during filming of series one, before anyone knew what a sensation the show would become....

And it seems that our readers are pretty fond of the show too -- a 2010 video interview with the drama's then-stars Robert Sheehan (Nathan) and Lauren Socha (Kelly) is currently the fourth most-viewed clip on our official YouTube account, ranking alongside the likes of reality behemoth The X Factor and huge movie franchises Harry Potter and the Dark Knight trilogy.

The team behind the show -- led by creator Howard Overman -- faced an unenviable challenge last year when they were tasked with finding a replacement for the charismatic Sheehan, but the addition of This Is England's Joseph Gilgun as the raucous Rudy was a masterstroke and the show's third series continued to attract critical acclaim and solid ratings.

A fourth series debuts on Channel 4 this Sunday (October 28) at 10pm and once again Overman and company are embracing change -- with stars Lauren Socha (Kelly), Iwan Rheon (Simon) and Antonia Thomas (Alisha) all departing at the end of the last run, it's a fresh start for Misfits with several new faces jumping on board...

Jess (Karla Crome)

The character - Our first newbie is "tough cookie" Jess, who has the power to "see through people's bulls**t" -- oh, and we mean that quite literally. The feisty character -- who ends up on community service in episode 4.1 -- is gifted with the power of x-ray vision. OMG, why is the only girl on this show (for now) stuck with such a lame, passive power???

The star - The phrase "rising star" might be thrown around a lot, but it certainly applies to Karla Crome, who first came to our attention in Sky Atlantic's Hit & Miss and subsequently blew us away with a phenomenal performance in August's one-off BBC thriller Murder.

Finn (Nathan McMullen) Enough with the Nathans!!!

The character - Cheeky, baby-faced Liverpudlian Finn is the second new character to don the famous orange jumpsuit this series and aside from a possible romantic interest in Jess, the newcomer also develops a serious 'bromantic' connection with Rudy... Nooo! I want Rudy/Curtis bromance, dammit.

And his power is telekinesis

The star - Nathan McMullen's past credits include a two-episode stint on Casualty and a memorable role in the ninth series of Channel 4's Shameless -- the 24-year-old previously auditioned for a smaller role in series three of Misfits but impressed producers so much that he was asked back to play the regular role of Finn.

Alex (Matt Stokoe) Way too many male characters...

He's the one on the far right
The character - The third new regular, Alex works alongside Curtis (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) and though he may not be putting on the orange, he will play a major role in the group - the brooding bartender quickly catches Jess's eye, but his standoffish nature means he keeps her at arm's length...

The star - Stokoe has previously appeared in The Borgias and Black Mirror, but the best is yet to come for the actor - in addition to his Misfits stint, he has roles lined up in new BBC One drama The Village opposite John Simm and alongside Derek Jacobi in Last Tango in Halifax.

In addition to these fresh faces, expect the return of power-dealer Seth (Matthew McNulty) alongside old favorites Rudy and Curtis, plus the gang coming under siege from a killer rabbit (no, really) and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (again, really).

Oh, and following the death of yet another probation worker - the smart-mouthed Shaun (Craig Parkinson) - a new unfortunate will be tasked with looking after our ragtag heroes this time around - Greg, played by Shaun Dooley (The Woman in Black, Great Expectations).

With all that and more to come, we've got a feeling that there's still plenty of life left in Misfits yet - eight shocking, funny and utterly bonkers hour-long episodes await...
