‘El Factor X’ Launches with Chino y Nacho, Belinda and Angelica Maria as Judges

The onslaught of Spanish-language music reality shows continues with the launch of “El Factor X” (“The X Factor”) this summer on upstart network MundoFox.
The Spanish-language version of “The X Factor” will feature Venezuelan tropical duo Chino y Nacho, Mexican pop star Belinda and veteran Mexican singer/actress Angélica María as judges, overseeing a competition for 8- to 15-year-old solo singers and vocal acts.
Competitors will be chosen through a series of open auditions taking place in Los Angeles (June 8), New York (June 22) and Miami (June 29). In addition, judges will travel cross-country in search of “unknown” acts. “El Factor X” is produced by Fremantle Media Latin America for MundoFox, a new Spanish-language American network that launched last year. MundoFox is a partnership between Fox International Channels and Colombia’s RCN Television, a major producer of original Spanish-language content.
In scoring “El Factor X,” MundoFox is signaling that it’s serious in its pursuit of the U.S. Latin viewer, an increasingly diverse playing field long defined by Telemundo and Univision.
News of “El Factor X” follows the successful launch of a series of music reality shows on Spanish-language television, many featuring kiddie talent. Last year, Puerto Rican station Wapa TV launched “Idol Kids Puerto Rico,” which in turn, was a spin-off of “Idol Puerto Rico.” And earlier this year, Telemundo started airing “La Voz Kids,” which has garnered record ratings for Telemundo.
Beyond children’s formats, this year also saw the launch of “Quiero Ser Grupero,” a show on Azteca América that searches for the next grupero star. On its end, Estrella TV continues to air its music reality competition “Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento,” which at one point had Jenni Rivera as a judge and which has garnered sustained success on the air.
Latin faces are also populating mainstream reality music shows, with Paulina Rubio newly announced as a judge on “The X Factor” in the U.S. and of course, Shakira in “The Voice.”
