Linda Dano on Liberace in HBO's Behind the Candelabra: “His Memory Was Crucified”!
Soap queen Linda Dano isn’t mincing words concerning HBO’s hit movie Behind the Candelabra.
After watching the film about her late friend and Another World guest star Liberace's relationship with Scott Thorson, Dano posted her reaction on Facebook saying, "his memory was crucified."
The real Liberace made appearances on NBC daytime soap opera ANOTHER WORLD in the years before he passed away. He came on the show for for a two week stint in May/June 1985. He returned in February 1986 for Felicia and Zane's wedding. Liberace was a friend of Felicia Gallant (Linda Dano) and played the piano at her wedding reception.
The classic clip below is from his 1986 appearance.

Jenny McLean (Sweeney) is a single mom working at a 911-call center struggling to make ends meet and raise her two kids, Elsie (Labadie) and Luke (Stockham). Although still reeling from her divorce, Jenny can’t help but flirt when she gets emergency calls from Jeff (Vaughan), a local firefighter she nicknames “Cowboy” for his handsome voice.
But when she gets a call that Jeff has been hurt in a fire, she is determined to finally meet him face-to-face. On the Wednesday, June 5th episode of Hallmark Channel's MARIE, Marie Osmond remembers actress Jeanne Cooper who passed away on May 8. She is joined by Ms. Cooper's son, Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominated actor Corbin Bernsen to help celebrate the extraordinary life and career of the daytime legend. Together they discuss Corbin’s fondest memories with his mom and how her passing significantly affected him and his family.
Marie and Corbin reminisce on Jeanne’s incredible run on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS as Katherine Chancellor, and Corbin remembers the exciting moment he found out he was nominated for an Emmy® the same year as his mother.
"I was. It was only a few years after the war. Paris was different then, still poor. Men couldn’t get jobs and, in the male chauvinist Paris of that time, the women couldn’t get work at all. It was perfectly respectable for them to go into le milieu."
"[I represented] a whole bordello. I represented them all, but her especially. I did a roaring business, and I was able to live for a year. The French mecs didn’t exploit women. They represented them, like agents. And they took a cut. That’s how I lived. I was going through my rites of passage, no question about it. It was a great year of my life."
No less than three projects consume his waking, non-“Daniel” hours: Spanners, a sci-fi, film noir “loooow budget” thriller, in which he produces and acts as an 8,000-year-old immortal with a “deep-dish monotone” voice; ADDICTS ANONYMOUS, a half-hour, single camera comedy for which Christian and his cohorts (including DAYS actor Freddie Smith) are seeking funding through kickstarter.com; and Carolina Blues, a movie he’s writing, loosely based on Sierra Lantz, the Kent City teen stock car driver who races her pink four-cylinder at Berlin Raceway and other venues. Christian is one of Lantz’s proudest racing sponsors.
Kassie DePaiva (Blair) will be blogging for PARADE about her insider’s take on all the drama in Llanview.
Are you loving having these great iconic stories back as much as I am? One Life is back in action and I love putting my “Blair on” again.
It has been so interesting to watch new stories unfold and stories we’ve invested in for years come to life again. Some things and some couples are the same, but it wouldn’t be a good soap without that element of surprise. Spoiler alert: There will be some shake ups, and boy will it be fun!
I’m enjoying watching our powerful younger actors knock it out of the park. Kelley Missel has been spot on with her portrayal of the Dani. Florenica Lozano made me want to hug my computer as she said goodbye to Victor. I can’t keep my eyes off of Robin Strasser, What will Dorian do next? And will my character “Blair” fall for Todd… again!!!
There are so many reasons to watch OLTL and so many easy ways to do it.
There’s a reason the fans cries were heard and these shows are back — because they never left our hearts.
A shift in her life began, she says, when she went to a Lutheran school's church service because it was recommended that as grandparents (Mills is married to actor and author Orson Bean) who are helping to place their grandchild in the school, they should attend.
"There on the wall [of the church where service was held] was a very old picture of Jesus and it was the same picture that the woman who raised me, my whole childhood, had by her bed," she said. "It was as if I was hit by a thunderbolt. I saw that picture and I suddenly remembered everything that I had not remembered at all about Mary (her caregiver) raising me pretty much from the age of two. She was a devout Christian. She was an African American. She kind of rescued me from a very crazy caregiver we had at that time, and always took me under her wing."

As previously reported, “General Hospital” alum Rena Sofer (ex-Lois Cerullo) is “The Bold and the Beautiful” bound and set to play Quinn Fuller, a jewelry designer and the mother of Darin Brooks’ Wyatt Fuller. But Bradley P. Bell, the show’s executive producer and headwriter, reveals that there’s more to the story!
“Rena’s powerful screen presence and vast range as an actress is what intrigued me most,” the exec says of why he chose the “Heroes” star for the upcoming dramatic storyline in which she’ll take part. “I look forward to challenging Rena with this role.”
As for what to expect when Sofer hits the screen on Friday, July 12, all you need to know is this: She’s got one hell of a secret, and it’s going to create quite an impact when it finally blows!
You’ve no doubt devoured the hard cover version of The Young and Restless Life of William J. Bell, the biography detailing the late daytime legend, former talk show host and “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” creator, and now there’s a lighter version you can easily carry to the beach this summer!
The book, originally released in hard cover form last June and now available in paperback form in bookstores nationwide, gives a detailed, behind-the-scenes look into Bell’s life, including memories pertaining to the birth and creation of two of daytime’s most popular shows. Bell’s wife, Lee Phillip Bell, co-wrote the biography, along with television reporter Michael Maloney. David Hasselhoff (ex-William Foster, ‘Y&R’) wrote the foreword.
“I hope soap fans enjoy the The Young and Restless Life of William J. Bell,” Maloney says. “It’s a chronicle of Bill and Lee’s inspiring life together — how they met, fell in love, followed their dreams, and built a soap opera empire along the way. There’s much of Bill’s philosophies on serialized storytelling in the book and untold anecdotes from the golden age of soap operas.”
It’s been awhile since Terri Conn (ex-Aubrey Wentworth, “One Life to Live;” ex-Katie Peretti, “As the World Turns”) has been in the public eye, but that’s all about to change! The actress will be joining Anthony Rapp (“Kidnapped,” “Adventures in Babysitting“) and Patrick James Lynch (“At the Top of the Pyramid”) in leading a benefit reading of “Deleted Scenes,” an event that will generate proceeds to help the Hemophilia Association of New York.
The reading, which will take place on Monday, June 10 at The Mainstage Theater in New York City, was organized by Lynch, a hemophiliac himself, in order to also raise awareness about the disease. “It’s an excellent opportunity to bring together two communities that may otherwise not find each other,” the actor told Broadway World of putting on the play, which follows two ex-friends who are forced to reunite and record the commentary track for a film they released five years prior, a situation made all the worse when one of their ex-girlfriends (Conn) shows up unexpectedly and intensifies the former buds’ rivalry.
With the 40th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards just a couple of weeks away, HLN has released a list of presenters slated to appear and hand over awards at the exciting award show ceremony. Betty White, Steve Harvey, Wayne Brady, Alex Trebek, Todd Newton, Bethany Frankel and Kris Jenner are included, with White and Brady presenting Monty Hall and Bob Stewart, respectively, with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Awards.
“The Young and the Restless’’ fans will no doubt be moved to tears when Max Ehrich (Fenmore Baldwin), Bryton James (Devon Hamilton) and Hunter King (Summer Newman) join Jess Walton (Jill Foster) and Corbin Bernsen, the son of the late Jeanne Cooper, to introduce the “in memoriam” tribute, which will honor the legendary actress who died earlier this month.
At press time, a host and additional presenters for the ceremony — which will take place at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and be broadcast on HLN on Sunday, June 16 at 8PM ET/PT — had yet to be announced.
As previously reported, Paolo Seganti (ex-Damien Grimaldi, “As The World Turns“) has joined the cast of The OnLine Network’s “One Life to Live” as Arturo Bandini, a wealthy, suave and sexy man whose family is very influential in the art world, beginning with the Thursday, June 27 episode. TOLN has released the first image of Seganti in his new role, which can be viewed above.
Joining the “OLTL” cast along with Seganti are former Procter & Gamble stars Marnie Schulenburg (ex-Alison Stewart, “As The World Turns”) and Ron Raines (ex-Alan Spaulding, “Guiding Light“).
In an interview published in the newest issue of Soap Opera Digest, Maria Arena Bell, the former executive producer and head writer of “The Young and the Restless,” shares that the soap submitted episodes #9,999 and #10,000 as part of their Emmy reel in the category of Outstanding Drama Series for the “40th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards.”
“We felt those episodes, being sequential, were the peak of huge story,” she says. The episodes covered the mock funeral of Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and the nonmarriage of Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) and Tucker McCall (Stephen Nichols). The soap submitted episode #9,999 in the category of Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team.
In addition to the “Y&R” Emmy nominations, Digest asked Bell what she thought of the “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” reboots.
“I think it’s wonderful. We’re closely watching with our friends at Prospect Park. I think the web is an amazing platform for this kind of storytelling. I hope those shows are very successful so that there will be an outcry for more and I’d like to be one of the people providing them.” When asked about her possible return to daytime soaps, Bell said, “You never know! I love the genre and I also love the idea of doing a non-network soap and the issues that you could explore that you really can’t as much on a network.” She added, “Things have gotten really politically correct and certain things are taboo and that’s not how soaps started. Soaps were groundbreaking on issues and much more exciting, so I think you can really do something online that could push the envelope a little more. I think you could really have some fun by thinking outside of the box, doing some new efforts in continuing drama. So, that’s what I’m really hopeful about. As you start a new production company or a new thing, you’ve got to have a lot of irons in the fire and just hope something connects. But I’m really excited. It’s a great time.”
