Nicole Richie wasn't the only one rocking a bold new hair color at the Costume Institute Gala in New York City May 6. Anne Hathaway, who's been keeping a low profile since winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in March, made her red carpet return to celebrate the opening of the Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibition.
The former brunette debuted her newly dyed blonde hair at the star-studded event. "I don't know that you could tell it but looking at me, but Debbie Harry was [my inspiration]," Hathaway told Vogue.com. Adam Shulman's wife wore a vintage Valentino gown from 1992.
"I couldn't believe it when he sent me the picture because he asked me if I wanted to wear archive . . He said, 'Well, have you ever done anything punk, darling?'" Hathaway laughed. "Princess, maybe! He sent me this one and I said, 'Oh my god, I love it. It's fabulous! First and only [choice] as soon as I saw it!"
Hathaway added, "I took the chaos thing as far as the couture would allow."
