Originally, Ariel (aka The Little Mermaid) was supposed to be introduced as a Once Upon a Time character in Season 2. That doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, but OUAT co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz did tell D23 that Ariel “could potentially be a Season 3.” Here’s why we think she might pop up in Neverland...
Mermaids’ Lagoon
For those unfamiliar with the Peter Pan canon, Neverland’s most dangerous location is Marooners’ Rock, located in Mermaids’ Lagoon. Mermaids’ Lagoon is filled with — you guessed it — mermaids! OUAT is known for melding the worlds of classic tales and fairy tales. The best example, perhaps, being making Rumplestiltskin the Beast from Beauty and the Beast. Given this fearlessness in breaking down the boundaries of fairy tale worlds, we wouldn’t be surprised one bit if Ariel showed up in Neverland.
A Three-Hour Tour... A Three-Hour Tour
It’s been widely theorized that at least some of Storybrooke’s residences will be making the trip to Neverland at the end of Season 2, but we have a hunch that they will be taking more than just a tour of the island. Whether by accident or design, we think the Storybrookers may be staying in Neverland for at least a few episodes, which seriously increases the chances of them running into many a fairy tale creature in Neverland. Anyone for a swim in Mermaids’ Lagoon?
Adam and Eddy Love Ariel
Adam and Eddy have voiced their affection for Ariel character, so it sounds like she will make an appearance sooner rather than later. “Ariel is a character that we love,” Adam said in January. “We have a story in mind, but we don’t want to overload with too many characters at once.” With Neverland on the horizon, it seems like the ideal time to meet some new faces. Otherwise, Eddy and Adam are going to have to wait even longer to introduce Ariel while we get to know Neverland’s characters.
If you watch the finale...
In that same interview, right after Eddy and Adam teased a possible introduction of Ariel in Season 3, they said, “We don’t want to give away who we’re planning to meet yet, but… If you watch the finale, you can probably guess who would be there.” To us, this sounds like a connection between the introduction of Ariel and the world of Neverland. They may be referring to character associated with the Peter Pan tale, but we think there’s room for a certain red-headed songstress, as well.
Do you think Ariel will be in Neverland? Do you want her to be? And who would you like to play the coveted role?

IDK if I want Ariel in this because they would no doubt find a way to fuck up her characterization as they have with pretty much everyone else. They better include hbic Ursula.
