Kevin Clash, the puppeteer who originated beloved Sesame Street character Elmo, has kept a low profile since November, when a trio of lawsuits accused him of having sex with underage males.
Now he’s back in the news as a fourth suit has surfaced, accusing the performer of hosting a “crystal-meth sex party” with a teenage boy.
In a suit filed Monday in Pennsylvania District Court, plaintiff Sheldon Stephens claims he met Clash in 2004 at “a social networking event for models and actors.” He alleges Clash “lured” Stevens to New York for sexual encounters, starting when Stephens was 16.
Stephens was actually the first to accuse Clash of instigating an inappropriate relationship, but it was 24-year-old Cecil Singleton who first filed suit. Stephens has claimed he was made to recant his story in exchange for a $125,000 settlement, but now wants to clear his name. (All four cases against Clash are being handled by the same lawyer.)
During one tryst, Stephens alleges, a driver took Clash and Stevens to his home, where the three had sex and did meth. “Clash smoked crystal meth while engaging in sexual activity with Sheldon. Clash also gave Sheldon poppers as a sexual aide,” the lawsuit reads. “While Clash had sexual contact with Sheldon, the chauffeur watched and masturbated.”
Clash’s attorney calls all four case “meritless” and is looking to have them all dismissed because the statute of limitations had run out. “Mr. Clash continues to deny any wrongdoing, and we intend to defend this case forcefully.”
Stephens is seeking unspecified damages in excess of $75,000.
