Is John Stamos Returning to General Hospital as Blackie?!

Is John Stamos headed back to General Hospital for the soap's upcoming 50th anniversary? Execs are the ABC soap are mum on the matter but the star himself will spill the very juicy beans on the Monday, Feb. 18 episode of The Jeff Probst Show — and TV Guide Magazine has the exclusive clip!

During a sit-down with Probst, Stamos reveals he has indeed met with GH brass but was not thrilled to hear they want his popular '80s character, Blackie Parrish, to appear at the Nurse's Ball playing drums while Rick Springfield sings "Jessie's Girl."

"That's not gonna happen," Stamos tells Probst. "That's what I passed on." The actor goes on to say he's "indebted" to GH for putting him on the map and would happily return if given something meaty to do.

"Why don't we pull Blackie out of jail [where he's been for 30 years] and he has to reacclimate to life?" Stamos says. "He's never been with a girl! I would like to go on [GH] and do some acting."

So whaddya say GH? You've been challenged!

By the way, make sure you catch the full episode because Stamos even volunteers to be part of a "second wave" of GH favorites if something substantial can't be worked out in time for the actual anniversary. And Probst, who clearly wants to see Stamos jam with Springfield, tries to broker a compromise. It's talk-show gold!

David Canary Joining New ALL MY CHILDREN!

Soaps in Depth is reporting that ALL MY CHILDREN Emmy-winner David Canary (Adam/Stuart) will be part of the soap's new version set to debut online this spring.

In Depth also hears that AMC will have a heavy emphasis on a group of high school characters and that the series will be set five years from the moment JR readied to start shooting beloved Pine Valley citizens in the ABC finale. The re-launched AMC will supposedly start off with Adam and Dixie's son waking up from a coma (played by an actor other than Jacob Young, who is now starring in THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL).

GENERAL HOSPITAL Alums Return For Golden Anniversary!

Check out the KABC 7 video below previewing GENERAL HOSPITAL's 50th anniversary. It includes comments from Genie Francis, executive producer Frank Valentini, Ian Buchanan, Finola Hughes and Kin Shriner.

"It feels like they've come home," says Valentini. "At least for the next six to eight weeks, you'll see a lot of the veterans front and center and a lot more surprises coming up throughout the months of February, March and through April."

"There are plenty of surprises coming, says Francis. "And more people coming, by the way, more surprises that way as well."

Susan Lucci To Make Appearance In New ALL MY CHILDREN!

Soaps in Depth is reporting that ALL MY CHILDREN Emmy-winner Susan Lucci will be part of the soap's new version set to debut online later this spring. But as of now, Lucci will appear in just one episode as Erica Kane.

Michael E. Knight On Joining The AMC Reboot!

In the wake of Cady McClain's announcement that she is reprising the role of Dixie on Prospect Park's AMC reboot, and with Jill Larson (Opal) already signed, Digest went straight to the source behind the man so pivotal to both Dixie and Opal — Michael E. Knight, whose Tad was Dixie's fiancé and Opal's son — to see where he stands on the subject of reprising his beloved role of Tad "the Cad" Martin.

"Where I stand is, I consider it a blessing that the Martins are going to be represented," he enthuses. "I mean, the news is that I think Jill is incredibly underrated as an actress. I think she's brilliant. I think the Martins are going to be well-represented with Cady and I hear Ray [MacDonnell, ex-Joe, who was an original cast member of ABC's AMC]. I’m sorry if Ricky [Paull Goldin, ex-Jake] won't be. I'm blessed, personally, that the Martins are going to be represented. With me, personally, it was simply an issue of timing, period," he states as to why he won't be present for the debut of the relaunch.

"I consider [Executive Producer] Ginger Smith to be, actually, one of my oldest and dearest friends, in that industry and in life. And I had asked her for patience with me because as I like to put it, I didn't say no, I just said, 'I can't do it right now.' I love the fact that the interest is there and I firmly believe Tad is going to be walking through Pine Valley in short order at some point." The actor is particularly pleased that Smith will be at the helm of the reboot. "I applaud Rich [Frank] and [Jeff Kwatinetz, the runners of Prospect Park] for having the vision to do what they’re doing and I have a lot of respect for them for having the innate intelligence to go to Ginger. Let me just say, they've got the right horse in the race."

Knight appreciates ongoing audience interest in him and his Pine Valley alter ego. "I just want to reach out and express my personal and heartfelt thanks to the audience for even caring enough to wonder where the hell that Tad guy is [laughs]."

Bill Bell's 1968 letter to Variety re-printed in new "Violence & Entertainment" issue!

In June 1968, Bill Bell, a writer for DAYS OF OUR LIVES, penned a short open letter to the TV and film industry and printed it in Variety. Spurred by the "insane, violent" deaths of Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy, Bell called upon his colleagues to "recognize our responsibilities and take decisive steps to temper and hopefully eliminate violence from our programming." Bell argued that much onscreen violence was not simply gratuitous, but artistically bankrupt. "As a writer, I know that…you can have conflict without violence," he wrote (emphasis his). "And that invariably it is finer drama."

The letter is reprinted in a new, glossy issue of the venerable showbiz rag that explores the claims, expressed most recently by the NRA's Wayne LaPierre, that the entertainment industry deserves some of the blame for mayhem like the Sandy Hook massacre. Instead of shrugging off the criticism, Variety editor-in-chief Timothy M. Gray embraces it and even echoes Bell's message in his opening note: "Don't underestimate your power or responsibility…When asked about violent or demeaning content, some in Hollywood shrug, 'It's what the public wants.' But there is a fine line between catering to the public and pandering to their basest instincts."

Man's Estate Left to Actors He Never Met!

Ray Fulk was 71 when he died last July. He lived alone on a 160-acre property in Lincoln, Ill. that he inherited from his father. He had no family or children.

"He was a loner, and a lot of neighbors didn't know who he was," estate attorney Donald Behle said.

What Fulk did have, though, was an admiration for actors Kevin Brophy and Peter Barton, whom he had never met. He admired them so much that he left his estate to be split between them.

Barton is known for his role as Dr. Scott Grainger in the soap opera "The Young and the Restless" from 1987 to 1993.

‘Jeff Probst’ Cancelled After One Season!

The other shoe has dropped — following Twentieth Television’s decision last week not to renew the Ricki Lake Show, CBS TV Distribution today said that its struggling freshman syndicated talker The Jeff Probst Show will not be retuning for the 2013-2014 season. Original episodes will continue to air through the end of the season. “We believe Jeff is an incredible talent, and that he and his dedicated producing team delivered quality episodes throughout the season. Unfortunately, the audience isn’t there to support a second year. We are grateful to the entire staff, our affiliate partners and advertisers for their ongoing support of The Jeff Probst Show,” a CTD spokesperson said. Added Probst, “I’m super bummed but extremely proud. The truth is all shows come to an end. Ours just ended a decade sooner than we had hoped.” Probst continues of course as longtime host of CBS’ Survivor, which premieres its 26th installment tonight.

Like Ricki Lake, Jeff Probst never found an audience to support it as the two shows faced a glut of new talkers last fall. Jeff Probst already went through a round of layoffs in December when several staffers, including producers, were let go. The disappointing launch was at least partially responsible for the October shakeup at CBS TV Distribution, which saw president John Nogawski exit and Armando Nuñez get oversight of the division.

Jeff Probst joins Ricki Lake and sophomore syndicated talk show Anderson Cooper Live, which are ending their runs this season, as is Debmar-Mercury’s sophomore The Jeremy Kyle Show. Freshmen Katie, from ABC-Disney; Steve Harvey and Trisha Goddard, from NBCU; and Dish Nation have been renewed.

'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live' revivals have a fan in 'The Young and the Restless' Peter Bergman!

Peter Bergman believes what's good for one soap opera is good for all soap operas.

That's why the actor -- who has played Jack Abbott on the CBS weekday staple "The Young and the Restless" for 24 years, winning three Daytime Emmy Awards for the role -- is rooting for the former ABC shows "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" to succeed in their new form as online offerings, with production on them set to resume at the end of the month.

"We have lamented the loss of that crazy wave of fascination with soap operas," Bergman tells Zap2it, "but the things that are hot now in primetime, from 'Downton Abbey' to 'Mad Men' to the rebirth of 'Dallas,' are serials. I'm hopeful this will go on for a while, and the reason these shows do go on is that when people tune in, they know who they're going to see.

"They're not going to be asked to be part of a giant transition. When people tune into our show, they'll find Jack and Nikki and Victor and Katherine ... and I'm very lucky to be playing one of those names."

Bergman is more than a casual observer of the revival of "All My Children," since he spent nearly a decade on that drama as Dr. Cliff Warner before starting his long tenure on 'The Young and the Restless." He muses, "As a fortune teller, I have been an abysmal failure" when it comes to predicting whether his current show -- which marks its 40th anniversary Tuesday, March 26 -- could have a similar afterlife in the online world.

"When the first rumor came that they were taking 'All My Children' off the air, I told everyone at work, 'Oh, please! There's no way that's going to happen. ABC owns those shows.' So, as for my prognosticating about where 'Y&R' might or could go, who knows?

"I'll tell you this, though," adds Bergman. "There's not a person working in daytime television today who isn't cheering on every one of those people on 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live.' We're hoping they are a giant success."

Production Set To Start On AMC And OLTL February 25!!

Prospect Park announced today that the online revivals of ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE will begin on Monday, February 25 with production taking place in Stamford, Connecticut. The 30-minute episodes will begin airing online via Hulu.com, Hulu Plus and iTunes later this spring. While some actors have already been announced, cast lists for both shows are not yet final. Expect more names added to the casts in the coming weeks. Also, while they say that production will commence, that doesn't necessarily mean taping episodes. Once they actually begin shooting, they will likely have a firm date for when the shows will begin airing.

Is Y&R's Alex On The Wrong Side Of The Law?

Ignacio Serricchio plays Alex the cop during the day on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, but tonight he's a potential suspect on CSI! In the episode, titled "Exile," the actor plays Estefan Meha, the owner of the club where a famous singer's sister dies. "I can't tell you if Estefan is a good guy or a bad guy," Serricchio teases, "but I can say he's trying to do the right thing. He owns this club and wants to make some money. He knows [the victim] so this is very personal to him."

The actor agrees that CBS' crime dramas are expert at hooking viewers in — once you see the setup at the beginning of the show it's very difficult to not stick around to see how it's resolved! It's the same way, he says, when he read the script. "As I read it, I try to solve the mystery myself," he says. "That's what keeps me reading. I may make an assumption at the beginning and as I keep reading it I try to see if I'm right or not. You have to be a little bit of a detective yourself!"

Nathan Parsons on Bunheads Romance, Stripping For His Bosses, General Hospital Offer!

There's something about a man in uniform. That slow, simmering attraction between Bunheads widow Michelle (Sutton Foster) and surfer dude Godot (Nathan Parsons) officially gets hot in Monday's episode (9/8c, ABC Family) — hot enough to brings in the hooks and ladders.

"So far we've only seen Michelle and Godot making out and trading barbs but things take a turn when there's a wild fire and he shows up in full firefighter gear," says Parsons. "She has no idea he's a volunteer with the Paradise fire department and really likes what she sees. In fact, that uniform works so well I'm thinking of getting one in real life!"

The Australia-born Parsons is accustomed to being treated like a prime hunk o' man-meat — after all, he spent three years as Ethan on General Hospital — and things were no different at Bunheads. "By my third audition I'm in a room with all these hilarious, outspoken women — [creator] Amy Sherman-Palladino, her writers and the casting director — and suddenly it's, 'Take off your shirt!' I hated that stuff on GH because they take it so seriously. But those ladies were out for fun!"

Any chance Parsons and Jonathan Jackson (now a regular on Nashville) will show up for a reunion of the Luke Spencer spawns for GH's 50th anniversary? "They're actually talking about that and it would be so good to see everybody," Parsons says. "They call every now and then and ask if I'd be interested in coming back for something longer. If the situation is right, I'd absolutely do it, but things have been pretty busy lately and pilot season is happening. So we'll see."

He hasn't forgotten how cushy suds work can be. "I was so worried when I left GH [in early 2012], so scared I'd never work again," Parsons says. "Pilot season came and went and I didn't get anything. I was, like, 'Aurghh! My life is over!' But then Bunheads came along. [Laughs] And I was so happy to take off my shirt!"

Audrey's Back At GH!

GENERAL HOSPITAL continues to thrill longtime viewers with the returns of fan favorites for its 50th Anniversary, the latest announcement being that Rachel Ames will be reprising her role of Audrey Hardy!

Ames started on the soap in 1964 and retired in 2007, although she did pop back into Port Charles in 2009. She also crossed over to GH's spin-off PORT CHARLES in 1997. A GH spokesperson confirmed Ames' return, and reports that you can expect to see Audrey on Friday, March 29.

Roger Howarth To Appear In ONE LIFE TO LIVE Launch!

Daytime Confidential's Jamey Giddens is reporting that Roger Howarth will bring the character of Todd Manning back ONE LIFE TO LIVE for four weeks to help launch Prospect Park's new version of the show. Once that stint is complete, Howarth will return to GENERAL HOSPITAL where first crossed over in February 2012.

Sonia Blangiardo Named Supervising Producer Of ALL MY CHILDREN!

Two-time Emmy winner Sonia Blangiardo has been named Supervising Producer of ALL MY CHILDREN, coming this spring from Prospect Park, reports Soap Opera Digest columnist Carolyn Hinsey on her blog.

"I am so excited to go back to my AMC roots with this talented group of people," enthuses Blangiardo in a statement on her own website, NYC Brand Productions. "Ginger Smith [executive producer] has some big plans, which long-time fans are going to love."

NYC Brand Productions is also working on another scripted series, TAINTED DREAMS, scheduled to go into production later this year.

Melody Thomas Scott Talks Nikki's Dire Diagnosis on The Young And The Restless!

First the good news: She's not dying. Now the bad news: Nikki Newman, the divalicious socialite played by Melody Thomas Scott on The Young and the Restless, has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The devastating development was revealed in the Feb. 14 episode of the CBS soap (geez, Happy Valentine's Day, Nik!) and TV Guide Magazine scored an exclusive chat with Thomas Scott to get more scoop. What does she really think of this plot twist?

TV Guide Magazine: MS, huh? Yikes. Please tell us this is a good idea!
Melody Thomas Scott: When people hear MS they gasp and think it's a death sentence, and the plan with this story is to educate people that it's not, that it's controllable with the proper treatment. Of course, the fans on Twitter are already thinking Nikki's gonna die what with all these mysterious symptoms she's been having. They thought it was maybe going to be cancer or something. Of course, what do I know? [Laughs] Maybe they are killing Nikki off? Hey, these things happen.

TV Guide Magazine: Is your contract up? We've been here before!
Thomas Scott: [Laughs] Hey, they tried that already and it didn't work! But, seriously, I think this could be really worthwhile, an opportunity to show the audience that MS is not the end of the world. We actually have a girl on our crew — I've said good morning to her every day for years and years — and I only just found out she has MS. She's a perfect example of people living normal lives with the disease, so that's very encouraging.

TV Guide Magazine: You've done your research?
Thomas Scott: I have to admit I knew nothing about MS, so I've been gathering the information. I'm also finally catching up with The West Wing, which I'd never watched during its original run, in order to see how they handled MS with Martin Sheen's character. What a wonderful show that was! I thought maybe I could learn a little more about the disease by watching it, but now I'm hooked!

TV Guide Magazine: Word is, Victor [Eric Braeden] finds out about the MS diagnosis from Jack [Peter Bergman], not from Nikki. What's up with that?
Thomas Scott: Yes, the bastard! Jack ends up blabbing to Victor even though Nikki swore him to secrecy. Then Nikki comes home one day and, without Victor even saying a word, she can tell he knows what's going on. So then she tears over to Jack's house and yells at him.

TV Guide Magazine: Does he spill the beans out of true concern or is he using this to one-up Victor?
Thomas Scott: He claims he did it because Nikki can't be alone with this right now and needs support. But who knows? He's such a son of a b----! Then Nikki has to tell her kids. I'm not sure how many people in town will know what's going on, but Nikki's friends certainly do. The very few friends she has, that is.

TV Guide Magazine: Remember when her only pal in the world was her butler Miguel? So sad.
Thomas Scott: [Laughs] It's not a hell of a lot better now!

TV Guide Magazine: Is Victor pissed that Jack knew first?
Thomas Scott: You'd think Victor and Nikki would argue about that but it never happens. They never even discuss it!

TV Guide Magazine: Just watch. Victor will use it as ammo later.
Thomas Scott: Oh, I'm sure! But right now he's being amazingly kind to Nikki. It's so not like him to be so sweet. She's just not used to this. She doesn't know what to do!

TV Guide Magazine: Did you find out about Nikki's bad news by reading a script or did the brass sit you down and warn you about this?
Thomas Scott: I did have a sit-down meeting, a little three-way with [head writer] Josh Griffith and [executive producer] Jill Phelps. They wanted to know how I felt about the idea, and I told them I thought it was great. Josh didn't know I used to play piano on Y&R way back when, so he decided to revive that and use it to show the beginnings of Nikki's symptoms — the shaky hands, the cramping, the feeling you've got arthritis.

TV Guide Magazine: This sounds like a big fat bummer. Are you sure this is entertainment?
Thomas Scott: [Laughs] Nikki is a bummer. She's all about misfortune and tragedy and always has been. Her back problems several years ago were horribly debilitating and that led her to addiction. It's always something with her! I've think Josh is a wonderful writer and he's never given me any reason not to trust him. And I love Jill. All of those horrible stories we heard when she was hired — "Watch out, the wicked witch is coming!"— were ridiculous. I don't see any evidence of what those people were talking about. She's a doll. They've both been very good to me.

TV Guide Magazine: Would they have cancelled their plans for this MS story if you didn't want to do it?
Thomas Scott: I got the feeling that if I disliked it enough they would have changed it to something else but I didn't know enough about MS, or where this story might go, to make that decision. I just knew I'd be playing piano again. [Laughs] That's what threw me into a panic!</i>
