NO Magazine Q&A with Dean O'Gorman
Who are you and what do you do?
I’m an actor and part time douche bag.
What are you working on at the moment?
Getting ready for my exhibition and being a dwarf on The Hobbit.
What is something only your closest friends know about you?
My chest hair is unnaturally curly for a white boy.
Who is your favourite artist and why?
I love Mark Rothko and Lucien Freud and Don McCullin and James Nachtwey because they're both technically and emotionally brilliant.
What is your favourite film and why?
When I was young I'd say Stand By Me or The Goonies. I wanted to go on an adventure so bad. I wanted to be Mikey (before he grew up and became Sean Astin). As for now, any film that isn't dripping in irony.
What inspires you to make art?
I can't spell very well. I'm useless at maths. I like pictures.
Who would play you in an autobiographical film?
Dudley Moore.
What would the film be called?
Dean O'Gorman (sub heading) The Man, The Legend.
Top five songs for uninspired artists?
Boots of Spanish Leather (bob dylan) The Voice(john farnham) Here I Go Again (Whitesnake) The Weight (The Band) Somebody To Love(Queen).
What is the weirdest thing that has ever happened to you on set?
Every day on The Hobbit is pretty surreal working with Elves, Dwarves and Hobbits. One day I found myself in a barrel floating down the Pelorus River in Nelson.
What has been your proudest moment?
I think putting on this exhibition is a big thing for me. It’s my first show and I've spent along time working on the images. Its one thing to make art, it’s another to put it out into the world. I have to put my money where my mouth is...
