-The series was a 10 year effort by two female filmmakers Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi
-The directors first got involved in the project after reading a 2005 New York Times Article on Steven Avery
-Initially anticipated that they would only be shooting the documentary for 6 months
-On their hopes once people finish the series ''The hope is that with first-hand experience, people will think differently about the criminal justice system''
