— The Root (@TheRoot) December 5, 2015-Oprah revealed she finally named the premature son she gave birth to at age 14. The baby, who was conceived by rape, died shortly after birth.
-It was suggested by a reporter that she name the baby to aid healing
-Chose "Canaan," which she says means "new land, new life"
-She says she was raped by 3 different family members, starting at age 9, and hid the pregnancy because she felt "pain and shame"
-The baby was a secret until 1990, when a relative sold the story to tabloids
-She's on a speaking tour in Australia. She has also been promoting Weight Watchers (in October she bought 10% stake for $43.2 million) after a 26lb weight loss.
-Days ago, Flatiron Books confirmed an 8-figure deal for her self-help memoir.
