The designers are given nine thousand dollars and seven weeks to put together a 10-look collection for S/S 2016 at New York Fashion Week.
We start the episode with a continuation of last week's vague ending, and you can practically feel the designers tapping their watches so Tim will hurry up and get on with the save. He does, it's uneventful.
Ashley is voluntold to make a plus size collection and they assure her they will provide models. She is the first home visit we see with Tim! Ashley is working out of her sister's home. She is inspired by her heritage, and is doing a modern 'Mexico City in the 1950s.' Her colours are bright (pinks and purples, very Ashley) and some florals. So far I see no fabrics that look like they were picked out by a character in Sweet Valley High so that's a good sign.
Next we go to San Francisco to see Candice, who is sitting at the beach with her mother and children in an all black ensemble, and leather boots. You know, casual beach looks. When we get to her workspace we are greeted by a giant skirt that lives outside because it doesn't fit through the door. Inside she is using leather and wood, lots of blacks and reds. Tim is a bit concerned, calling some of her looks 'cheap' and 'full-tilt drag queen.'
Off to Massachusetts (not Jersey, wtf) to see Kelly. Her inspiration is 'Studio 54 meets new-wave streetwear' and has a lot of sequins, shine, and a wood-pattern fabric. She has made fanny packs for all her looks, I die. It's so Kelly. For her family/friend visit, Kelly takes Tim to
Lastly we head to Atlanta to see Edmond. He has done mostly dresses, from cocktail dresses to gowns. He debates broadening his collection to include things like swimsuits and suits, but Tim advises, 'do you want people coming to you for swimsuits?' Edmond says no, and that pretty much settles things. He still has lots of work to go, Tim reminds him of the tight timeline to get it all done and shipped to New York.
Once we get back to NYC, three of the designers still have work left to do, but Kelly is done. Tim tells the designers they need to show three looks to the judges - one of which needs to be made TODAY. However, this look doesn't necessarily need to go in the collection they present at Fashion Week, so it is pretty much just a time suck. Off they go to Mood!
Which looks get presented? Who do the judges love and hate? Who is going on to Fashion Week? On to the runway.
