MISFITS star Iwan Rheon is teaming up with two knights of the realm for his next role.
The Welsh actor will appear alongside Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Derek Jacobi in Vicious – a new comedy about a gay couple, Freddie and Stuart, who have lived together in the same Covent Garden flat for 50 years.
Freddie was a budding actor and Stuart a barman when they first met but their careers are pretty much over and their lives now consist of reading books, walking their dog and bickering.
Joining Freddie and Stuart is feisty best friend Violet (played by Frances De La Tour). She’s young at heart with a delicious sense of humour and always on hand to calm Freddie and Stuart down during one of their many arguments.
The arrival of young Ash – played by Iwan – turns their worlds upside down.
“It’s pretty formidable but an absolute honour working with two incredible actors,” said the Welshman, who has recently finished filming on the third series of hugely popular US fantasy series Game Of Thrones.
“I think it will be such a surreal experience, but I can’t wait to get started. I’m still pinching myself frankly.
“It’s very, very funny,” he added.
“It’s written by Gary Janetti who wrote Will And Grace and worked on Family Guy.
“Basically I move in upstairs and I’m befriended by the couple. I become a ray of light in their lives. But as you can imagine, working with those two together, it will be hilarious.”
The sitcom comes with some pedigree, alongside Gary Janetti the show has been co-created by award-winning playwright Mark Ravenhill.
The series of six 30-minute episodes, which will be filmed in front of a live audience, is being lined up for ITV1 from April.
