- Cowell replaced presenter Dermot O'Leary and judges Mel B and Louis Walsh with presenters Caroline Flack and Olly Murs and bringing in The Voice's Rita Ora and Radio 1 breakfast show DJ Nick Grimshaw.
- Viewers for premiere down 2 million compared to last year.
- Simon said that was due to poor quality of auditions, which would improve when show went head to head with rivals Strictly Come Dancing. “An audition day is long, it’s tedious, and it’s frustrating. It’s just lots of people coming in who are just bland. But then you get that special moment – they’re coming in and you’re not expecting anything and they nail the song and you just get this feeling.”
- However it emerged that 22 of the 24 contestants who got through to the judges houses were not unknowns but in fact asked to audition by talent scouts.
- Bitter ex Louis Walsh blamed Nick Grimshaw and firing of Dermot O'Leary for rating slump stating "What is that other guy, what's his name?...Dermot's missed – let's be honest."
- Viewers also blasted Caroline Flack
Caroline Flack is the most boring presenter I've watched in a long time on the #xfactor#sorrynotsorry

"You have to be a good singer for this song"... Thanks for the input, Flack #XFactor

Caroline Flack never interacts with the camera like Olly does, pretty frustrating & boring #xfactoruk

- Despite Simon's confidence Strictly roundly beat the X-factor this Sunday, drawing 9 million viewers to X Factor’s 5.7 million.
- To boost rating 1D's Louis Tomlinson will join Simon at the judges house to help choose the final contestants from Simon's category (the Overs).

What do you think of the judges this year? Do you think Grimshaw is a better judge than he is a DJ?
