Last Sunday, MTV's tired VMAs were preceded by a franchise that's equally worn out... Catfish: The TV Show.
This year's finale stars a sad stay at home mom (a 4-year fan of the show) and her ripped army sniper boyfriend who refuses to video chat or meet, and is actually using a stock image of a sniper as their profile pic. Predictably the BF is super fake, the girl spends the next 30 minutes crying about her kids while Nev and Max tactfully point out how she should have seen this coming.
It's pretty disappointing that a season to full of psychopaths ends with two lonely crying women desperate for attention.
More interesting (sort of) is Nev taking a moment at the beginning of the ep to thank the fans and talk about how it's been a "great trip" to film the show. Relativity Media, the production company that makes Catfish, is in bankruptcy and up for auction this fall. Catfish has yet to be renewed by MTV and its ratings have fallen significantly this year.
So.. this is probably the end of Catfish.
