Publishing company Last Gasp started a pledge on kickstarter to raise $36,000 to print and distribute about 4000 hardcover copies of the manga "Barefoot Gen" to schools and libraries for educational purposes. "Barefoot Gen" is a manga series by author Keiji Nakazawa (1939-2012) and details semi-autobiographical accounts of his experiences as a survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. The manga has spun several adaptations, including two anime features, live action films and TV series, and books. (There is also interest in Hollywood to make a film based on it).

From the kickstarter campaign:

August 6, 2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Today, the danger posed by nuclear weapons is as great as ever, yet few people survive who witnessed their horror.

Keiji Nakazawa's manga illustrates the true impact of nuclear weapons when used against a civilian population. It is vital reading for people of all ages, and especially for today's youth.

By keeping this tragedy in our collective consciousness, we can strive to never repeat it and guide humanity towards a course of peace.

With your support we hope to share the message of Gen with tomorrow's leaders.

Today also marks the second atom bomb drop by the US on Nagasaki 70 years ago.
